New American Standard Bible

  • The Nations Judged

    “In those days and at that time,
    when I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem,
  • The Nations Will Be Judged

    “For behold, in those days and at that time,
    When I restore the fortunes of Judah and Jerusalem,
  • I will gather all nations
    and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat.a
    There I will put them on trial
    for what they did to my inheritance, my people Israel,
    because they scattered my people among the nations
    and divided up my land.
  • I will gather all the nations
    And bring them down to the valley of Jehoshaphat.
    Then I will enter into judgment with them there
    On behalf of My people and My inheritance, Israel,
    Whom they have scattered among the nations;
    And they have divided up My land.
  • They cast lots for my people
    and traded boys for prostitutes;
    they sold girls for wine to drink.
  • “They have also cast lots for My people,
    Traded a boy for a harlot
    And sold a girl for wine that they may drink.
  • “Now what have you against me, Tyre and Sidon and all you regions of Philistia? Are you repaying me for something I have done? If you are paying me back, I will swiftly and speedily return on your own heads what you have done.
  • “Moreover, what are you to Me, O Tyre, Sidon and all the regions of Philistia? Are you rendering Me a recompense? But if you do recompense Me, swiftly and speedily I will return your recompense on your head.
  • For you took my silver and my gold and carried off my finest treasures to your temples.b
  • “Since you have taken My silver and My gold, brought My precious treasures to your temples,
  • You sold the people of Judah and Jerusalem to the Greeks, that you might send them far from their homeland.
  • and sold the sons of Judah and Jerusalem to the Greeks in order to remove them far from their territory,
  • “See, I am going to rouse them out of the places to which you sold them, and I will return on your own heads what you have done.
  • behold, I am going to arouse them from the place where you have sold them, and return your recompense on your head.
  • I will sell your sons and daughters to the people of Judah, and they will sell them to the Sabeans, a nation far away.” The Lord has spoken.
  • “Also I will sell your sons and your daughters into the hand of the sons of Judah, and they will sell them to the Sabeans, to a distant nation,” for the LORD has spoken.
  • Proclaim this among the nations:
    Prepare for war!
    Rouse the warriors!
    Let all the fighting men draw near and attack.
  • Proclaim this among the nations:
    Prepare a war; rouse the mighty men!
    Let all the soldiers draw near, let them come up!
  • Beat your plowshares into swords
    and your pruning hooks into spears.
    Let the weakling say,
    “I am strong!”
  • Beat your plowshares into swords
    And your pruning hooks into spears;
    Let the weak say, “I am a mighty man.”
  • Come quickly, all you nations from every side,
    and assemble there.
    Bring down your warriors, Lord!
  • Hasten and come, all you surrounding nations,
    And gather yourselves there.
    Bring down, O LORD, Your mighty ones.
  • “Let the nations be roused;
    let them advance into the Valley of Jehoshaphat,
    for there I will sit
    to judge all the nations on every side.
  • Let the nations be aroused
    And come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat,
    For there I will sit to judge
    All the surrounding nations.
  • Swing the sickle,
    for the harvest is ripe.
    Come, trample the grapes,
    for the winepress is full
    and the vats overflow —
    so great is their wickedness!”
  • Put in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe.
    Come, tread, for the wine press is full;
    The vats overflow, for their wickedness is great.
  • Multitudes, multitudes
    in the valley of decision!
    For the day of the Lord is near
    in the valley of decision.
  • Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision!
    For the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision.
  • The sun and moon will be darkened,
    and the stars no longer shine.
  • The sun and moon grow dark
    And the stars lose their brightness.
  • The Lord will roar from Zion
    and thunder from Jerusalem;
    the earth and the heavens will tremble.
    But the Lord will be a refuge for his people,
    a stronghold for the people of Israel.
  • The LORD roars from Zion
    And utters His voice from Jerusalem,
    And the heavens and the earth tremble.
    But the LORD is a refuge for His people
    And a stronghold to the sons of Israel.
  • Blessings for God’s People

    “Then you will know that I, the Lord your God,
    dwell in Zion, my holy hill.
    Jerusalem will be holy;
    never again will foreigners invade her.
  • Then you will know that I am the LORD your God,
    Dwelling in Zion, My holy mountain.
    So Jerusalem will be holy,
    And strangers will pass through it no more.
  • “In that day the mountains will drip new wine,
    and the hills will flow with milk;
    all the ravines of Judah will run with water.
    A fountain will flow out of the Lord’s house
    and will water the valley of acacias.c

  • Judah Will Be Blessed

    And in that day
    The mountains will drip with sweet wine,
    And the hills will flow with milk,
    And all the brooks of Judah will flow with water;
    And a spring will go out from the house of the LORD
    To water the valley of Shittim.
  • But Egypt will be desolate,
    Edom a desert waste,
    because of violence done to the people of Judah,
    in whose land they shed innocent blood.
  • Egypt will become a waste,
    And Edom will become a desolate wilderness,
    Because of the violence done to the sons of Judah,
    In whose land they have shed innocent blood.
  • Judah will be inhabited forever
    and Jerusalem through all generations.
  • But Judah will be inhabited forever
    And Jerusalem for all generations.
  • Shall I leave their innocent blood unavenged?
    No, I will not.”
    The Lord dwells in Zion!
  • And I will avenge their blood which I have not avenged,
    For the LORD dwells in Zion.
