Darby Bible Translation

  • Israel to Be Destroyed

    I saw the Lord standing by the altar, and he said:
    “Strike the tops of the pillars
    so that the thresholds shake.
    Bring them down on the heads of all the people;
    those who are left I will kill with the sword.
    Not one will get away,
    none will escape.
  • The Destruction of Israel

    I saw the Lord standing upon the altar; and he said, Smite the chapiter that the thresholds may shake; and break all of them in pieces, in the head; and I will slay the last of them with the sword: he that fleeth of them shall not get away by flight, and he that escapeth of them shall not be delivered.
  • Though they dig down to the depths below,
    from there my hand will take them.
    Though they climb up to the heavens above,
    from there I will bring them down.
  • Though they dig into Sheol, thence shall my hand take them; and though they climb up to the heavens, thence will I bring them down;
  • Though they hide themselves on the top of Carmel,
    there I will hunt them down and seize them.
    Though they hide from my eyes at the bottom of the sea,
    there I will command the serpent to bite them.
  • and though they hide themselves on the top of Carmel, I will search and take them out thence; and though they be hid from my sight in the bottom of the sea, there will I command the serpent, and it shall bite them;
  • Though they are driven into exile by their enemies,
    there I will command the sword to slay them.
    “I will keep my eye on them
    for harm and not for good.”
  • and though they go into captivity before their enemies, there will I command the sword, and it shall slay them: and I will set mine eyes upon them for evil, and not for good.
  • The Lord, the Lord Almighty —
    he touches the earth and it melts,
    and all who live in it mourn;
    the whole land rises like the Nile,
    then sinks like the river of Egypt;
  • And the Lord Jehovah of hosts is he that toucheth the land, and it melteth, and all that dwell therein shall mourn; and it shall wholly rise up like the Nile, and sink down as the river of Egypt.
  • he builds his lofty palacea in the heavens
    and sets its foundationb on the earth;
    he calls for the waters of the sea
    and pours them out over the face of the land —
    the Lord is his name.
  • It is he that buildeth his upper chambers in the heavens, and hath founded his vault upon the earth; he that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: Jehovah is his name.
  • “Are not you Israelites
    the same to me as the Cushitesc?”
    declares the Lord. “Did I not bring Israel up from Egypt,
    the Philistines from Caphtord
    and the Arameans from Kir?
  • Are ye not as children of the Ethiopians unto me, O children of Israel? saith Jehovah. Have not I brought up Israel out of the land of Egypt? and the Philistines from Caphtor, and the Syrians from Kir?
  • “Surely the eyes of the Sovereign Lord
    are on the sinful kingdom.
    I will destroy it
    from the face of the earth.
    Yet I will not totally destroy
    the descendants of Jacob,”
    declares the Lord.
  • Behold, the eyes of the Lord Jehovah are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from off the face of the earth: only that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob, saith Jehovah.
  • “For I will give the command,
    and I will shake the people of Israel
    among all the nations
    as grain is shaken in a sieve,
    and not a pebble will reach the ground.
  • For behold, I command, and I will shake the house of Israel to and fro among all the nations, like as one shaketh [corn] in a sieve; yet shall not the least grain fall upon the earth.
  • All the sinners among my people
    will die by the sword,
    all those who say,
    ‘Disaster will not overtake or meet us.’
  • All the sinners of my people shall die by the sword, who say, Evil shall not overtake nor befall us.
  • Israel’s Restoration

    “In that day
    I will restore David’s fallen shelter —
    I will repair its broken walls
    and restore its ruins —
    and will rebuild it as it used to be,
  • The Restoration of Israel

    In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David which is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up its ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old:
  • so that they may possess the remnant of Edom
    and all the nations that bear my name,e
    declares the Lord, who will do these things.
  • that they may possess the remnant of Edom, and all the nations upon whom my name is called, saith Jehovah who doeth this.
  • “The days are coming,” declares the Lord,
    “when the reaper will be overtaken by the plowman
    and the planter by the one treading grapes.
    New wine will drip from the mountains
    and flow from all the hills,
  • Behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, when the ploughman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him that soweth seed; and the mountains shall drop new wine, and all the hills shall melt.
  • and I will bring my people Israel back from exile.f
    “They will rebuild the ruined cities and live in them.
    They will plant vineyards and drink their wine;
    they will make gardens and eat their fruit.
  • And I will turn again the captivity of my people Israel, and they shall build the waste cities, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and drink the wine thereof; and they shall make gardens, and eat the fruit of them.
  • I will plant Israel in their own land,
    never again to be uprooted
    from the land I have given them,”
    says the Lord your God.
  • And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be plucked up out of their land which I have given them, saith Jehovah thy God.
