The Lord’s Anger Against Nineveh

The Lord is a jealous and avenging God;
the Lord takes vengeance and is filled with wrath.
The Lord takes vengeance on his foes
and vents his wrath against his enemies.

Бог ревнивий і Господь мстивий, Господь мстить з гнівом, Господь мстить Своїм ворогам, і Він вигублює Своїх ворогів.

The Lord is slow to anger but great in power;
the Lord will not leave the guilty unpunished.
His way is in the whirlwind and the storm,
and clouds are the dust of his feet.

Господь довготерпеливий, і Його сила велика, і Господь безсумнівно не залишить без покарання [1]. Його дорога у вигубленні та в тремтінні, а хмари — порох Його ніг.

He rebukes the sea and dries it up;
he makes all the rivers run dry.
Bashan and Carmel wither
and the blossoms of Lebanon fade.

Він грозить морю і його висушує, і спустошує всі ріки. Малою стала Васанітида і Кармил, і пропало те, що квітне в Лівані.

The mountains quake before him
and the hills melt away.
The earth trembles at his presence,
the world and all who live in it.

Гори затремтіли від Нього, і горби зрушилися. І осунулася земля від Його обличчя, всесвіт і всі, що живуть у ньому.

Who can withstand his indignation?
Who can endure his fierce anger?
His wrath is poured out like fire;
the rocks are shattered before him.

Хто встоїть від обличчя Його гніву? І хто стане проти в гніві Його обурення? Його гнів розтоплює владу, і від нього розсипалися каміння.

The Lord is good,
a refuge in times of trouble.
He cares for those who trust in him,

Господь добрий для тих, що Його з нетерпінням очікують у день скорботи, і пізнає тих, що Його вшановують.

but with an overwhelming flood
he will make an end of Nineveh;
he will pursue his foes into the realm of darkness.

І в потопі Він зробить кінець ходу тим, що повстають, і Його ворогів переслідуватиме темрява.

Whatever they plot against the Lord
he will bringa to an end;
trouble will not come a second time.

Що задумуєте на Господа? Він зробить кінець, не відімстить двічі заразом у скорботі.

They will be entangled among thorns
and drunk from their wine;
they will be consumed like dry stubble.b

Бо аж до їхньої основи будуть висушені, і, як сплетений дуб, пожертий буде він — так, як тростина, повна сухості.

From you, Nineveh, has one come forth
who plots evil against the Lord
and devises wicked plans.

Від тебе вийде задум проти Господа, радячи погане проти Нього.

This is what the Lord says:
“Although they have allies and are numerous,
they will be destroyed and pass away.
Although I have afflicted you, Judah,
I will afflict you no more.

Так говорить Господь, що має владу над великими водами: І так будуть відставлені, і твій голос більше не почується.

13

Now I will break their yoke from your neck
and tear your shackles away.”

І тепер розломлю його палицю від тебе, і розірву твої кайдани.

The Lord has given a command concerning you, Nineveh:
“You will have no descendants to bear your name.
I will destroy the images and idols
that are in the temple of your gods.
I will prepare your grave,
for you are vile.”

І Господь заповість про тебе, більше не розсіється те, що від твого імені. З дому твого Бога знищу різьблене і лите. Поставлю твою гробницю, бо ти швидкий.
