  • Boundaries of Canaan

    The Lord said to Moses,
  • Boundaries of the Land

    Then the LORD said to Moses,
  • “Command the Israelites and say to them: ‘When you enter Canaan, the land that will be allotted to you as an inheritance is to have these boundaries:
  • “Give these instructions to the Israelites: When you come into the land of Canaan, which I am giving you as your special possession, these will be the boundaries.
  • “ ‘Your southern side will include some of the Desert of Zin along the border of Edom. Your southern boundary will start in the east from the southern end of the Dead Sea,
  • The southern portion of your country will extend from the wilderness of Zin, along the edge of Edom. The southern boundary will begin on the east at the Dead Sea.a
  • cross south of Scorpion Pass, continue on to Zin and go south of Kadesh Barnea. Then it will go to Hazar Addar and over to Azmon,
  • It will then run south past Scorpion Passb in the direction of Zin. Its southernmost point will be Kadesh-barnea, from which it will go to Hazar-addar, and on to Azmon.
  • where it will turn, join the Wadi of Egypt and end at the Mediterranean Sea.
  • From Azmon the boundary will turn toward the Brook of Egypt and end at the Mediterranean Sea.c
  • “ ‘Your western boundary will be the coast of the Mediterranean Sea. This will be your boundary on the west.
  • “Your western boundary will be the coastline of the Mediterranean Sea.
  • “ ‘For your northern boundary, run a line from the Mediterranean Sea to Mount Hor
  • “Your northern boundary will begin at the Mediterranean Sea and run east to Mount Hor,
  • and from Mount Hor to Lebo Hamath. Then the boundary will go to Zedad,
  • then to Lebo-hamath, and on through Zedad
  • continue to Ziphron and end at Hazar Enan. This will be your boundary on the north.
  • and Ziphron to Hazar-enan. This will be your northern boundary.
  • “ ‘For your eastern boundary, run a line from Hazar Enan to Shepham.
  • “The eastern boundary will start at Hazar-enan and run south to Shepham,
  • The boundary will go down from Shepham to Riblah on the east side of Ain and continue along the slopes east of the Sea of Galilee.a
  • then down to Riblah on the east side of Ain. From there the boundary will run down along the eastern edge of the Sea of Galilee,d
  • Then the boundary will go down along the Jordan and end at the Dead Sea.
    “ ‘This will be your land, with its boundaries on every side.’ ”
  • and then along the Jordan River to the Dead Sea. These are the boundaries of your land.”
  • Moses commanded the Israelites: “Assign this land by lot as an inheritance. The Lord has ordered that it be given to the nine-and-a-half tribes,
  • Then Moses told the Israelites, “This territory is the homeland you are to divide among yourselves by sacred lot. The LORD has commanded that the land be divided among the nine and a half remaining tribes.
  • because the families of the tribe of Reuben, the tribe of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh have received their inheritance.
  • The families of the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half the tribe of Manasseh have already received their grants of land
  • These two-and-a-half tribes have received their inheritance east of the Jordan across from Jericho, toward the sunrise.”
  • on the east side of the Jordan River, across from Jericho toward the sunrise.”
  • The Lord said to Moses,

  • Leaders to Divide the Land

    And the LORD said to Moses,
  • “These are the names of the men who are to assign the land for you as an inheritance: Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun.
  • “Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun are the men designated to divide the grants of land among the people.
  • And appoint one leader from each tribe to help assign the land.
  • Enlist one leader from each tribe to help them with the task.
  • These are their names:
    Caleb son of Jephunneh,
    from the tribe of Judah;
  • These are the tribes and the names of the leaders:

    the leader from the tribe of Ephraim son of Joseph;

  • Elizaphan son of Parnak,
    the leader from the tribe of Zebulun;

  • Paltiel son of Azzan,
    the leader from the tribe of Issachar;

    the leader from the tribe of Asher;

  • These are the men the Lord commanded to assign the inheritance to the Israelites in the land of Canaan.
  • These are the men the LORD has appointed to divide the grants of land in Canaan among the Israelites.”
