Darby Bible Translation

  • Concerning Spiritual Gifts

    Now about the gifts of the Spirit, brothers and sisters, I do not want you to be uninformed.
  • Spiritual Gifts Bestowed

    But concerning spiritual [manifestations], brethren, I do not wish you to be ignorant.
  • You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols.
  • Ye know that when ye were [of the] nations [ye were] led away to dumb idols, in whatever way ye might be led.
  • Therefore I want you to know that no one who is speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus be cursed,” and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.
  • I give you therefore to know, that no one, speaking in [the power of the] Spirit of God, says, Curse [on] Jesus; and no one can say, Lord Jesus, unless in [the power of the] Holy Spirit.
  • There are different kinds of gifts, but the same Spirit distributes them.
  • But there are distinctions of gifts, but the same Spirit;
  • There are different kinds of service, but the same Lord.
  • and there are distinctions of services, and the same Lord;
  • There are different kinds of working, but in all of them and in everyone it is the same God at work.
  • and there are distinctions of operations, but the same God who operates all things in all.
  • Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.
  • But to each the manifestation of the Spirit is given for profit.
  • To one there is given through the Spirit a message of wisdom, to another a message of knowledge by means of the same Spirit,
  • For to one, by the Spirit, is given [the] word of wisdom; and to another [the] word of knowledge, according to the same Spirit;
  • to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit,
  • and to a different one faith, in [the power of] the same Spirit; and to another gifts of healing in [the power of] the same Spirit;
  • to another miraculous powers, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in different kinds of tongues,a and to still another the interpretation of tongues.b
  • and to another operations of miracles; and to another prophecy; and to another discerning of spirits; and to a different one kinds of tongues; and to another interpretation of tongues.
  • All these are the work of one and the same Spirit, and he distributes them to each one, just as he determines.
  • But all these things operates the one and the same Spirit, dividing to each in particular according as he pleases.
  • Unity and Diversity in the Body

    Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ.
  • Many Members, One Body

    For even as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of the body, being many, are one body, so also [is] the Christ.
  • For we were all baptized byc one Spirit so as to form one body — whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free — and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.
  • For also in [the power of] one Spirit *we* have all been baptised into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bondmen or free, and have all been given to drink of one Spirit.
  • Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.
  • For also the body is not one member but many.
  • Now if the foot should say, “Because I am not a hand, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body.
  • If the foot say, Because I am not a hand I am not of the body, is it on account of this not indeed of the body?
  • And if the ear should say, “Because I am not an eye, I do not belong to the body,” it would not for that reason stop being part of the body.
  • And if the ear say, Because I am not an eye I am not of the body, is it on account of this not indeed of the body?
  • If the whole body were an eye, where would the sense of hearing be? If the whole body were an ear, where would the sense of smell be?
  • If the whole body [were] an eye, where the hearing? if all hearing, where the smelling?
  • But in fact God has placed the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be.
  • But now God has set the members, each one of them in the body, according as it has pleased [him].
  • If they were all one part, where would the body be?
  • But if all were one member, where the body?
  • As it is, there are many parts, but one body.
  • But now the members [are] many, and the body one.
  • The eye cannot say to the hand, “I don’t need you!” And the head cannot say to the feet, “I don’t need you!”
  • The eye cannot say to the hand, I have not need of thee; or again, the head to the feet, I have not need of you.
  • On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable,
  • But much rather, the members of the body which seem to be weaker are necessary;
  • and the parts that we think are less honorable we treat with special honor. And the parts that are unpresentable are treated with special modesty,
  • and those [parts] of the body which we esteem to be the more void of honour, these we clothe with more abundant honour; and our uncomely [parts] have more abundant comeliness;
  • while our presentable parts need no special treatment. But God has put the body together, giving greater honor to the parts that lacked it,
  • but our comely [parts] have not need. But God has tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to [the part] that lacked;
  • so that there should be no division in the body, but that its parts should have equal concern for each other.
  • that there might be no division in the body, but that the members might have the same concern one for another.
  • If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it.
  • And if one member suffer, all the members suffer with [it]; and if one member be glorified, all the members rejoice with [it].
  • Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.
  • Now *ye* are Christ's body, and members in particular.
  • And God has placed in the church first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healing, of helping, of guidance, and of different kinds of tongues.
  • Spiritual Gifts

    And God has set certain in the assembly: first, apostles; secondly, prophets; thirdly, teachers; then miraculous powers; then gifts of healings; helps; governments; kinds of tongues.
  • Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles?
  • [Are] all apostles? [are] all prophets? [are] all teachers? [are] all [in possession of] miraculous powers?
  • Do all have gifts of healing? Do all speak in tonguesd? Do all interpret?
  • have all gifts of healings? do all speak with tongues? do all interpret?
  • Now eagerly desire the greater gifts.Love Is Indispensable

    And yet I will show you the most excellent way.
  • But desire earnestly the greater gifts, and yet shew I unto you a way of more surpassing excellence.
