  • Are we beginning to commend ourselves again? Or do we need, like some people, letters of recommendation to you or from you?
  • Ministers of a New Covenant

    Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or do we need, as some, commendatory letters to you, or [commendatory] from you?
  • You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, known and read by everyone.
  • *Ye* are our letter, written in our hearts, known and read of all men,
  • You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts.
  • being manifested to be Christ's epistle ministered by us, written, not with ink, but [the] Spirit of [the] living God; not on stone tables, but on fleshy tables of [the] heart.
  • Such confidence we have through Christ before God.
  • And such confidence have we through the Christ towards God:
  • Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.
  • not that we are competent of ourselves to think anything as of ourselves, but our competency [is] of God;
  • He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant — not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
  • who has also made us competent, [as] ministers of [the] new covenant; not of letter, but of spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit quickens.
  • The Greater Glory of the New Covenant

    Now if the ministry that brought death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the Israelites could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of its glory, transitory though it was,
  • The Glory of the New Covenant

    (But if the ministry of death, in letters, graven in stones, began with glory, so that the children of Israel could not fix their eyes on the face of Moses, on account of the glory of his face, [a glory] which is annulled;
  • will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious?
  • how shall not rather the ministry of the Spirit subsist in glory?
  • If the ministry that brought condemnation was glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry that brings righteousness!
  • For if the ministry of condemnation [be] glory, much rather the ministry of righteousness abounds in glory.
  • For what was glorious has no glory now in comparison with the surpassing glory.
  • For also that [which was] glorified is not glorified in this respect, on account of the surpassing glory.
  • And if what was transitory came with glory, how much greater is the glory of that which lasts!
  • For if that annulled [was introduced] with glory, much rather that which abides [subsists] in glory.
  • Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold.
  • Having therefore such hope, we use much boldness:
  • We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to prevent the Israelites from seeing the end of what was passing away.
  • and not according as Moses put a veil on his own face, so that the children of Israel should not fix their eyes on the end of that annulled.
  • But their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away.
  • But their thoughts have been darkened, for unto this day the same veil remains in reading the old covenant, unremoved, which in Christ is annulled.
  • Even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts.
  • But unto this day, when Moses is read, the veil lies upon their heart.
  • But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.
  • But when it shall turn to [the] Lord, the veil is taken away.)
  • Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.
  • Now the Lord is the Spirit, but where the Spirit of [the] Lord [is, there is] liberty.
  • And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplatea the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
  • But *we* all, looking on the glory of the Lord, with unveiled face, are transformed according to the same image from glory to glory, even as by [the] Lord [the] Spirit.
