The Collection for the Lord’s People

And now, brothers and sisters, we want you to know about the grace that God has given the Macedonian churches.

Повідомляємо вам, брати, про Божу благодать, яка була дана македонським Церквам,

In the midst of a very severe trial, their overflowing joy and their extreme poverty welled up in rich generosity.

тому що серед великого досвіду переживання їхня надмірна радість при крайній убогості переросла в багатство їхньої щиросердечності.

For I testify that they gave as much as they were able, and even beyond their ability. Entirely on their own,

Бо я свідчу, що по змозі й понад змогу, добровільно,

they urgently pleaded with us for the privilege of sharing in this service to the Lord’s people.

з наполегливим проханням вони благали нас про благодать і участь у служінні для святих.

And they exceeded our expectations: They gave themselves first of all to the Lord, and then by the will of God also to us.

І не так, як ми сподівалися, але спочатку віддали себе Господу, а, з Божої волі, і нам,

So we urged Titus, just as he had earlier made a beginning, to bring also to completion this act of grace on your part.

But since you excel in everything — in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in the love we have kindled in youa — see that you also excel in this grace of giving.

І оскільки ви в усьому маєте достаток: у вірі, слові, знанні, у різних турботах, у вашій любові до нас, — то і в цій доброчинній справі збагачуйтеся.

I am not commanding you, but I want to test the sincerity of your love by comparing it with the earnestness of others.

Не кажу це як наказ, але турботами про інших випробовую щирість вашої любові.

For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.

Адже ви знаєте благодать нашого Господа Ісуса Христа, що, будучи багатим, заради вас Він став убогим, аби ви збагатилися Його зубожінням.

And here is my judgment about what is best for you in this matter. Last year you were the first not only to give but also to have the desire to do so.

І в цьому даю пораду: адже це вам на користь, — вам, які від минулого року не тільки почали здійснювати це, а першими виявили до цього бажання.

Now finish the work, so that your eager willingness to do it may be matched by your completion of it, according to your means.

Тепер же закінчіть справу, щоб як ревно бажали, так щоб і виконали в міру можливості.

For if the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable according to what one has, not according to what one does not have.

Бо коли є готовність, вона сприймається згідно з тим, що хто має, а не з тим, чого хто не має.

Our desire is not that others might be relieved while you are hard pressed, but that there might be equality.

Та й не для того, щоб інші мали полегшення, [а] ви — труднощі, але для рівності.

At the present time your plenty will supply what they need, so that in turn their plenty will supply what you need. The goal is equality,

У нинішній час ваш достаток нехай їм допоможе в їхній нестачі, щоб і їхній достаток допоміг вам у вашій нестачі, — щоб існувала рівність;

15

as it is written: “The one who gathered much did not have too much, and the one who gathered little did not have too little.”b

як написано: Той, хто зібрав багато, не мав надміру, а хто зібрав мало, не мав нестачі.

Titus Sent to Receive the Collection

Thanks be to God, who put into the heart of Titus the same concern I have for you.

Подяка Богові, що наділив серце Тита такою самою турботою про вас,

For Titus not only welcomed our appeal, but he is coming to you with much enthusiasm and on his own initiative.

адже він, будучи старанним, прийняв прохання і добровільно пішов до вас.

And we are sending along with him the brother who is praised by all the churches for his service to the gospel.

Ми послали з ним брата, якого по всіх Церквах хвалять за Євангеліє,

19

What is more, he was chosen by the churches to accompany us as we carry the offering, which we administer in order to honor the Lord himself and to show our eagerness to help.

19

а, крім того, він був вибраний Церквами, аби бути нашим співучасником у цій благодаті, котрій ми служимо на славу Самого Господа і для вашої ревності,

We want to avoid any criticism of the way we administer this liberal gift.

остерігаючись того, щоб від когось нам не зазнати нарікань за той достаток, яким ви нам послужили,

For we are taking pains to do what is right, not only in the eyes of the Lord but also in the eyes of man.

бо дбаємо про добро не тільки перед Господом, а й перед людьми.

22

In addition, we are sending with them our brother who has often proved to us in many ways that he is zealous, and now even more so because of his great confidence in you.

Послали ми з ними нашого брата, старанність якого ми випробували за багатьох обставин багато разів, і який тепер ще старанніший через велике довір’я до вас.

23

As for Titus, he is my partner and co-worker among you; as for our brothers, they are representatives of the churches and an honor to Christ.

23

Щодо Тита, то він — мій спільник, а ваш співпрацівник. Щодо наших братів, то вони — посланці Церков, слава Христа.

24

Therefore show these men the proof of your love and the reason for our pride in you, so that the churches can see it.

24

Тому дайте їм доказ вашої любові й нашої похвали щодо вас перед Церквами.
