Imitating Christ’s Humility

Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion,

Отож, коли є в Христі яка заохо́та, коли є яка потіха любови, коли є яка спільно́та духа, коли є яке серце та милосердя,

then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind.

то допо́вніть радість мою: щоб ду́мали ви одне й те, щоб мали ту саму любов, одну згоду й один розум!

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,

Не робіть нічого пі́дступом або з чванли́вости, але в покорі майте один о́дного за більшого від себе.

not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

Нехай кожен дбає не про своє, але кожен і про інших.

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:

Нехай у вас будуть ті самі думки́, що й у Христі Ісусі!

Who, being in very naturea God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;

Він, бувши в Божій подо́бі, не вважав за захва́т бути Богові рівним,

7

rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very natureb of a servant,
being made in human likeness.

але Він ума́лив Самого Себе, прийнявши вигляд раба, ставши подібним до люди́ни; і подобою ставши, як люди́на,

8

And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death —
even death on a cross!

Він упоко́рив Себе, бувши слухня́ний аж до смерти, і то смерти хресної.

9

Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,

Тому й Бог повищив Його, та дав Йому Ім'я́, що вище над кожне ім'я́,

10

that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,

10

щоб перед Ісусовим Ім'я́м вклонялося кожне коліно небесних, і зе́мних, і підзе́мних,

11

and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

і щоб кожен язик визнавав: Ісус Христос — то Госпо́дь, на славу Бога Отця!

Do Everything Without Grumbling

Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed — not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence — continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,

Отож, мої лю́бі, як ви за́вжди слухня́ні були не тільки в моїй присутності, але значно більше тепер, у моїй відсутності, зо стра́хом і тремті́нням виконуйте своє спасі́ння.

13

for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.

13

Бо то Бог викликає в вас і хоті́ння, і чин за доброю волею Своєю.

14

Do everything without grumbling or arguing,

14

Робіть усе без наріка́ння та сумніву,

15

so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.”c Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky

15

щоб були ви бездоганні та щирі, „невинні діти Божі серед лукавого та розпусного роду“, що в ньому ви сяєте, як світла в світі,

16

as you hold firmly to the word of life. And then I will be able to boast on the day of Christ that I did not run or labor in vain.

додержуючи слово життя на похвалу́ мені в день Христа, що я біг не нада́рмо, що я працював не нада́рмо.

17

But even if I am being poured out like a drink offering on the sacrifice and service coming from your faith, I am glad and rejoice with all of you.

17

Та хоч і стаю я жертвою при жертві і при службі вашої віри, я радію та тішуся ра́зом із вами всіма́.

18

So you too should be glad and rejoice with me.

18

Тіштесь тим самим і ви, і тіштеся ра́зом зо мною!

Timothy and Epaphroditus

I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, that I also may be cheered when I receive news about you.

19

Надіюся в Господі Ісусі незаба́ром послати до вас Тимофія, щоб і я зміцнів духом, розізнавши про вас.

20

I have no one else like him, who will show genuine concern for your welfare.

20

Бо я одноду́мця не маю ні о́дного, щоб щиріше подбав він про вас.

21

For everyone looks out for their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ.

21

Усі бо шукають свого́, а не Христового Ісусового.

22

But you know that Timothy has proved himself, because as a son with his father he has served with me in the work of the gospel.

22

Та ви знаєте до́свід його, бо він, немов ба́тькові син, зо мною служив для Єва́нгелії.

23

I hope, therefore, to send him as soon as I see how things go with me.

23

Отже, маю надію негайно послати цього́, як тільки довідаюся, що бу́де зо мною.

24

And I am confident in the Lord that I myself will come soon.

24

Але в Господі маю надію, що й сам незаба́ром прибу́ду до вас.

25

But I think it is necessary to send back to you Epaphroditus, my brother, co-worker and fellow soldier, who is also your messenger, whom you sent to take care of my needs.

25

Але я вважав за потрібне послати до вас брата Епафроди́та, свого співробітника та співбойовника́, вашого апо́стола й служи́теля в потребі моїй,

26

For he longs for all of you and is distressed because you heard he was ill.

26

бо він побивався за вами всіма́, і сумував через те, що ви чули, що він хворува́в.

27

Indeed he was ill, and almost died. But God had mercy on him, and not on him only but also on me, to spare me sorrow upon sorrow.

27

Бо смертельно він був хворував. Але змилувався Бог над ним, і не тільки над ним, але й надо мною, щоб я смутку на смуток не мав.

28

Therefore I am all the more eager to send him, so that when you see him again you may be glad and I may have less anxiety.

28

Отож, тим швидше послав я його, щоб тішились ви, його зно́ву побачивши, і щоб без смутку я був.

29

So then, welcome him in the Lord with great joy, and honor people like him,

29

Тож прийміть його в Господі з повною радістю, і майте в пошані таких,

30

because he almost died for the work of Christ. He risked his life to make up for the help you yourselves could not give me.

30

бо за діло Христове набли́зився був аж до смерти, наражаючи на небезпеку життя, щоб допо́внити ваш неста́ток служі́ння для мене.
