Darby Bible Translation

  • The Man of Lawlessness

    Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers and sisters,
  • The Man of Sin

    Now we beg you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to him,
  • not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by the teaching allegedly from us — whether by a prophecy or by word of mouth or by letter — asserting that the day of the Lord has already come.
  • that ye be not soon shaken in mind, nor troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter, as [if it were] by us, as that the day of the Lord is present.
  • Don’t let anyone deceive you in any way, for that day will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessnessa is revealed, the man doomed to destruction.
  • Let not any one deceive you in any manner, because [it will not be] unless the apostasy have first come, and the man of sin have been revealed, the son of perdition;
  • He will oppose and will exalt himself over everything that is called God or is worshiped, so that he sets himself up in God’s temple, proclaiming himself to be God.
  • who opposes and exalts himself on high against all called God, or object of veneration; so that he himself sits down in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
  • Don’t you remember that when I was with you I used to tell you these things?
  • Do ye not remember that, being yet with you, I said these things to you?
  • And now you know what is holding him back, so that he may be revealed at the proper time.
  • And now ye know that which restrains, that he should be revealed in his own time.
  • For the secret power of lawlessness is already at work; but the one who now holds it back will continue to do so till he is taken out of the way.
  • For the mystery of lawlessness already works; only [there is] he who restrains now until he be gone,
  • And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus will overthrow with the breath of his mouth and destroy by the splendor of his coming.
  • and then the lawless one shall be revealed, whom the Lord Jesus shall consume with the breath of his mouth, and shall annul by the appearing of his coming;
  • The coming of the lawless one will be in accordance with how Satan works. He will use all sorts of displays of power through signs and wonders that serve the lie,
  • whose coming is according to the working of Satan in all power and signs and wonders of falsehood,
  • and all the ways that wickedness deceives those who are perishing. They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved.
  • and in all deceit of unrighteousness to them that perish, because they have not received the love of the truth that they might be saved.
  • For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie
  • And for this reason God sends to them a working of error, that they should believe what is false,
  • and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness.
  • that all might be judged who have not believed the truth, but have found pleasure in unrighteousness.
  • Stand Firm

    But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters loved by the Lord, because God chose you as firstfruitsb to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth.
  • Stand Firm

    But we ought to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved of [the] Lord, that God has chosen you from [the] beginning to salvation in sanctification of [the] Spirit and belief of [the] truth:
  • He called you to this through our gospel, that you might share in the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  • whereto he has called you by our glad tidings, to [the] obtaining of [the] glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
  • So then, brothers and sisters, stand firm and hold fast to the teachingsc we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter.
  • So then, brethren, stand firm, and hold fast the instructions which ye have been taught, whether by word or by our letter.
  • May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope,
  • But our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us, and given [us] eternal consolation and good hope by grace,
  • encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.
  • encourage your hearts, and establish you in every good work and word.
