King James Bible

  • Instructions on Worship

    I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people —
  • A Call to Prayer

    I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;
  • for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.
  • For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
  • This is good, and pleases God our Savior,
  • For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
  • who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
  • Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
  • For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus,
  • For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;
  • who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time.
  • Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
  • And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apostle — I am telling the truth, I am not lying — and a true and faithful teacher of the Gentiles.
  • Whereunto I am ordained a preacher, and an apostle, (I speak the truth in Christ, and lie not;) a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.
  • Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or disputing.
  • I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
  • I also want the women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, adorning themselves, not with elaborate hairstyles or gold or pearls or expensive clothes,
  • Instructions to Women

    In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array;
  • but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God.
  • But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works.
  • A womana should learn in quietness and full submission.
  • Let the woman learn in silence with all subjection.
  • I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man;b she must be quiet.
  • But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.
  • For Adam was formed first, then Eve.
  • For Adam was first formed, then Eve.
  • And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner.
  • And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.
  • But womenc will be saved through childbearing — if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.
  • Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety.
