Micah’s Idols

Now a man named Micah from the hill country of Ephraim

І був чоловік з Єфремових гір, а ім'я́ йому Миха́.

said to his mother, “The eleven hundred shekelsa of silver that were taken from you and about which I heard you utter a curse — I have that silver with me; I took it.”
Then his mother said, “The Lord bless you, my son!”

І сказав він до своєї матері: „Тисяча й сто шеклів срібла, що в тебе взяті, а ти прокляла́ за них, і також сказала це, щоб і я чув, — ось те срі́бло зо мною, це я його взяв“. І сказала мати його: „Благослове́нний син мій у Господа!“

When he returned the eleven hundred shekels of silver to his mother, she said, “I solemnly consecrate my silver to the Lord for my son to make an image overlaid with silver. I will give it back to you.”

І він вернув ту тисячу й сто шеклів срібла своїй матері. І сказала його мати: „Я справді посвятила те срі́бло Господе́ві з своєї руки за сина свого, щоб зробити бовва́на рі́зьбленого та боввана ли́того. А тепер звертаю його тобі“.

So after he returned the silver to his mother, she took two hundred shekelsb of silver and gave them to a silversmith, who used them to make the idol. And it was put in Micah’s house.

Та він вернув те срі́бло своїй матері. І взяла́ його мати дві сотні шеклів срі́бла та й дала його золотаре́ві, а він зробив із нього бовва́на рі́зьбленого та боввана ли́того; і було це в домі Михи́.

Now this man Micah had a shrine, and he made an ephod and some household gods and installed one of his sons as his priest.

А цей чоловік Миха́ мав удома божни́цю. І зробив він ефо́да та тера́фи, і ви́святив одно́го з синів своїх, і він був йому за священика.

In those days Israel had no king; everyone did as they saw fit.

Того ча́су не було царя в Ізраїлі, — кожен робив, що правдиве було в його оча́х.

A young Levite from Bethlehem in Judah, who had been living within the clan of Judah,

І був юна́к із Віфлеє́му Юдиного, з Юдиного ро́ду, а він Левит, і він був там прихо́дько.

left that town in search of some other place to stay. On his wayc he came to Micah’s house in the hill country of Ephraim.

І пішов той чоловік з того міста, із Віфлеєму Юдиного, щоб часо́во пожити, де зна́йде. І прийшов він до Єфремових гір до дому Михи́, щоб далі йти своєю дорогою.

Micah asked him, “Where are you from?”
“I’m a Levite from Bethlehem in Judah,” he said, “and I’m looking for a place to stay.”

І сказав йому Миха́: „Звідкіля ти прихо́диш?“ А той йому відказав: „Я Левит із Віфлеєму Юдейського, а я йду, щоб часо́во пожити, де знайду́“.

Then Micah said to him, “Live with me and be my father and priest, and I’ll give you ten shekelsd of silver a year, your clothes and your food.”

І сказав йому Миха: „Зоставайся ж зо мною, і будь мені за отця́ та за священика, а я дам тобі десять шеклів срібла на рік і потрібну одежу та поживу твою“. І пішов той Левит до нього,

So the Levite agreed to live with him, and the young man became like one of his sons to him.

і погодився Левит сидіти з тим чоловіком. І був той юна́к йому, як один із синів його.

Then Micah installed the Levite, and the young man became his priest and lived in his house.

І Миха ви́святив того Левита, і був йому той юна́к за священика, і був у Михиному домі.

13

And Micah said, “Now I know that the Lord will be good to me, since this Levite has become my priest.”

І сказав Миха́: „Тепер я знаю, що Господь зробить добро мені, бо цей Левит став мені за священика“.
