Now the two angels came to Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw them, he rose to meet them, and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground.

І прибули́ оби́два Анголи́ до Содому надвечір, а Лот сидів у брамі содомській. І побачив Лот, і встав їм назустріч, і вклонився обличчям до землі,
And he said, “Here now, my lords, please turn in to your servant’s house and spend the night, and wash your feet; then you may rise early and go on your way.”
And they said, “No, but we will spend the night in the open square.”
And they said, “No, but we will spend the night in the open square.”
та й промовив: „Ось, панове мої, зайдіть до дому вашого раба, і переночуйте, і помийте ноги свої, а рано встанете й пі́дете на дорогу свою“. А вони відказали: „Ні, бо будемо ми ночувати на вулиці“.
But he insisted strongly; so they turned in to him and entered his house. Then he made them a feast, and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.
А він сильно на них налягав, і вони до нього з дороги зійшли, і ввійшли до дому його. І вчинив він для них прийняття, і напік прісного — і їли вони.
Now before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, both old and young, all the people from every quarter, surrounded the house.
Ще вони не полягали, а люди того міста, люди Содому — від малого аж до старого, увесь наро́д звідусюди оточили той дім.
And they called to Lot and said to him, “Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us that we may know them carnally.”
І вони закричали до Лота, і сказали йому: „Де ті мужі, що ночі цієї до тебе прийшли? Виведи їх до нас, — щоб нам їх пізнати!“
So Lot went out to them through the doorway, shut the door behind him,
І Лот вийшов до входу до них, а двері замкнув за собою,
and said, “Please, my brethren, do not do so wickedly!
і сказав: „Браття мої, — не чиніть лихого!
See now, I have two daughters who have not known a man; please, let me bring them out to you, and you may do to them as you wish; only do nothing to these men, since this is the reason they have come under the shadow of my roof.”
Ось у мене дві доньки, що мужа не пізнали. Нехай я їх до вас виведу, а ви їм робіть, що вам до вподоби. Тільки мужам оцім не робіть нічого, бо на те вони прийшли під тінь даху мого“.
А вони закричали: „Іди собі геть!“ І сказали: „Цей один був прийшов, щоб пожити чужинцем, а він став тут суддею! Тепер ми зло гірше тобі заподієм, ніж їм!“ І сильно вони налягали на мужа, на Лота, і підійшли, щоб висадити двері.
But the men reached out their hands and pulled Lot into the house with them, and shut the door.
Тоді вистромили свою руку ті мужі, і впровадили Лота до себе до дому, а двері замкнули.
And they struck the men who were at the doorway of the house with blindness, both small and great, so that they became weary trying to find the door.
А людей, що при вході до дому зібрались, вони вдарили сліпотою, — від малого аж до великого. І ті попомучилися, шукаючи входу.
Sodom and Gomorrah Destroyed
Then the men said to Lot, “Have you anyone else here? Son-in-law, your sons, your daughters, and whomever you have in the city — take them out of this place!

І сказали ті мужі до Лота: „Ще хто в тебе тут? Зятів і синів своїх, і дочок своїх, і все, що в місті твоє, — виведи з цього місця,
For we will destroy this place, because the outcry against them has grown great before the face of the Lord, and the Lord has sent us to destroy it.”
бо ми знищимо це місце, бо збільшився їхній крик перед Господом, і Господь послав нас, щоб знищити його“.
So Lot went out and spoke to his sons-in-law, who had married his daughters, and said, “Get up, get out of this place; for the Lord will destroy this city!” But to his sons-in-law he seemed to be joking.
І вийшов Лот, і промовив до зятів своїх, що мали взяти дочок його, і сказав: „Уставайте, вийдіть із цього місця, бо Господь знищить місто“. Але в очах зятів він здавався як жартун.
When the morning dawned, the angels urged Lot to hurry, saying, “Arise, take your wife and your two daughters who are here, lest you be consumed in the punishment of the city.”
А коли зійшла світова зірниця, то Анголи принагля́ли Лота, говорячи: „Уставай, візьми жінку свою та обох дочок своїх, що знаходяться тут, щоб тобі не загинути через гріх цього міста“.
And while he lingered, the men took hold of his hand, his wife’s hand, and the hands of his two daughters, the Lord being merciful to him, and they brought him out and set him outside the city.
А що він вагався, то ті мужі — через Господню до нього любов — схопили за руку його, і за руку жінки його, і за руку обох дочок його, і вивели його, і поставили поза містом.
І сталося, коли один з них виводив їх поза місто, то промовив: „Рятуй свою душу, — не оглядайся позад себе, і не затримуйся ніде в околиці. Ховайся на го́ру, щоб тобі не загинути“.
Indeed now, your servant has found favor in your sight, and you have increased your mercy which you have shown me by saving my life; but I cannot escape to the mountains, lest some evil overtake me and I die.
Ось Твій раб знайшов милість в очах Твоїх, і Ти побільшив Свою милість, що зробив її зо мною, щоб зберегти при житті мою душу; але я не встигну сховатись на го́ру, щоб бува не спіткало мене зло, і я помру.
See now, this city is near enough to flee to, and it is a little one; please let me escape there (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live.”
Ось місто це близьке, щоб утекти туди, а воно — маленьке. Нехай сховаюсь я туди, — чи ж воно не маленьке? — і буде жити душа моя“.
And he said to him, “See, I have favored you concerning this thing also, in that I will not overthrow this city for which you have spoken.
І відказав Він до нього: „Ось Я прихиливсь до твого проха́ння, щоб не зруйнувати мі́ста, про яке ти казав.
Швидко сховайся туди, бо Я не зможу нічого зробити, аж поки не при́йдеш туди“. Тому й назвав ім'я́ тому місту: Цоар.
The sun had risen upon the earth when Lot entered Zoar.
Сонце зійшло над землею, а Лот прибув до Цоару.
Then the Lord rained brimstone and fire on Sodom and Gomorrah, from the Lord out of the heavens.
І Господь послав на Содом та Гомору дощ із сірки й огню́, від Господа з неба.
I поруйнував ті міста, і всю околицю, і всіх мешканців міст, і рослинність землі.
But his wife looked back behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
А жінка його, Ло́това, озирнулася позад нього, — і стала стовпом соляним!
And Abraham went early in the morning to the place where he had stood before the Lord.
І встав Авраам рано вранці, і подався до місця, де стояв був він перед лицем Господнім.
Then he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain; and he saw, and behold, the smoke of the land which went up like the smoke of a furnace.
І він подивився на Содом та Гомору, і на всю поверхню землі тієї околиці. І побачив: ось здіймається дим від землі, немов дим із вапнярки...
And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when He overthrew the cities in which Lot had dwelt.
І сталося, як нищив Бог міста тієї околиці, то згадав Бог Авраама, і вислав Лота з сере́дини руїни, коли руйнував ті міста, що сидів у них Лот.
The Descendants of Lot
Then Lot went up out of Zoar and dwelt in the mountains, and his two daughters were with him; for he was afraid to dwell in Zoar. And he and his two daughters dwelt in a cave.

І піднявся Лот із Цоару, і осів на горі, й обидві дочки́ його з ним, бо боявся пробува́ти в Цоарі. І осів у печері, він та обидві дочки його.
Now the firstborn said to the younger, “Our father is old, and there is no man on the earth to come in to us as is the custom of all the earth.
І промовила старша молодшій: „Наш ба́тько старий, а чоловіка немає в цім краї, щоб прийшов до нас, як звичайно на цілій землі.
Ходи, — напіймо свого ба́тька вином, і покладімося з ним. І оживимо наща́дків від нашого батька“.
So they made their father drink wine that night. And the firstborn went in and lay with her father, and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose.
І ночі тієї вони напоїли вином свого батька. І прийшла старша та й поклалася з батьком своїм. А він не знав, коли вона лягла й коли встала...
І сталося другого дня, і старша сказала молодшій: „Ось я минулої ночі поклалась була з своїм батьком. Напіймо його вином також ночі цієї, і прийди ти, покладися з ним, — і оживимо наща́дків від нашого батька“.
Then they made their father drink wine that night also. And the younger arose and lay with him, and he did not know when she lay down or when she arose.
І також ночі тієї вони напоїли вином свого батька. І встала молодша та й поклалася з ним. А він не знав, коли вона лягла й коли встала...
Thus both the daughters of Lot were with child by their father.
І завагітніли обидві Лотові дочки від батька свого.
The firstborn bore a son and called his name Moab; he is the father of the Moabites to this day.
І вродила старша сина, і назвала ім'я́ йому: Моав. Він батько моавів аж до цього дня.
