The Prisoners’ Dreams

Сталося ж, що після цих подій головний виночерпій єгипетського царя і головний пекар провинилися перед своїм володарем, царем єгипетським.
And Pharaoh was angry with his two officers, the chief butler and the chief baker.
І розгнівався фараон на обох своїх євнухів — на головного виночерпія та на головного пекаря.
So he put them in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, in the prison, the place where Joseph was confined.
І кинув їх до в’язниці при начальникові тюрми, — в те місце в’язниці, куди посадили і Йосифа.
And the captain of the guard charged Joseph with them, and he served them; so they were in custody for a while.
А начальник в’язниці передав їх Йосифові, і той обслуговував їх. Деякий час вони перебували у в’язниці.
Then the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were confined in the prison, had a dream, both of them, each man’s dream in one night and each man’s dream with its own interpretation.
І обидва побачили сон — кожний свій сон — в одну ніч кожний мав своє видіння уві сні — головний виночерпій та головний пекар, які були в царя Єгипту, котрі перебували у в’язниці.
Якось Йосиф увійшов до них вранці і побачив їх: вони були стурбовані.
So he asked Pharaoh’s officers who were with him in the custody of his lord’s house, saying, “Why do you look so sad today?”
Тож запитав фараонових євнухів, які разом з ним були у в’язниці його пана, кажучи: Чому сьогодні ваші обличчя сумні?
And they said to him, “We each have had a dream, and there is no interpreter of it.”
So Joseph said to them, “Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell them to me, please.”

Вони ж йому відповіли: Ми бачили сон — і немає нікого, хто би його міг пояснити. Та Йосиф сказав їм: Хіба не від Бога їх пояснення? Тож розкажіть мені.
Then the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, “Behold, in my dream a vine was before me,
І головний виночерпій розповів Йосифові свій сон, і сказав: У моєму сні переді мною була виноградна лоза.
and in the vine were three branches; it was as though it budded, its blossoms shot forth, and its clusters brought forth ripe grapes.
У виноградної ж лози — три галузки; розрісшись, вона видала китиці — дозрілі грона винограду.
Then Pharaoh’s cup was in my hand; and I took the grapes and pressed them into Pharaoh’s cup, and placed the cup in Pharaoh’s hand.”
А в моїй руці була фараонова чаша. Я взяв виноград і вичавив його в чашу, і дав чашу в руки фараона.
And Joseph said to him, “This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days.
А Йосиф сказав йому: Ось його пояснення: три галузки — це три дні.
Ще три дні — і фараон згадає твою посаду, і знову поставить тебе головним виночерпієм, і ти даватимеш чашу фараонові в його руки, — згідно з твоїм попереднім становищем, коли ти був виночерпієм.
But remember me when it is well with you, and please show kindness to me; make mention of me to Pharaoh, and get me out of this house.
Але, коли тобі стане добре, згадай собі й мене; і вчиниш мені милість: згадаєш про мене перед фараоном і виведеш мене із цієї в’язниці.
For indeed I was stolen away from the land of the Hebrews; and also I have done nothing here that they should put me into the dungeon.”
Бо мене справді викрадено [1] із землі євреїв, та й тут я не скоїв нічого, проте мене вкинули до цієї ями.
Головний пекар побачив, що він правильно пояснив, і сказав Йосифові: І я бачив сон; мені здалося, що три кошики хлібовиробів ніс я на своїй голові.
In the uppermost basket were all kinds of baked goods for Pharaoh, and the birds ate them out of the basket on my head.”
У верхньому кошику — різні види пекарських виробів, котрі цар-фараон їсть, а небесні птахи дзьобали їх з кошика, що на моїй голові.
So Joseph answered and said, “This is the interpretation of it: The three baskets are three days.
У відповідь Йосиф промовив до нього: Ось його пояснення: три кошики — це три дні.
Ще три дні — і тобі фараон зітне твою голову, і повісить тебе на дереві, і небесні птахи з тебе дзьобатимуть твоє тіло.
Now it came to pass on the third day, which was Pharaoh’s birthday, that he made a feast for all his servants; and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants.
Сталося ж: третього дня був день народження фараона, і він робив бенкет для всіх своїх слуг. І згадав посаду головного виночерпія і посаду головного пекаря серед своїх слуг.
Then he restored the chief butler to his butlership again, and he placed the cup in Pharaoh’s hand.
І він відновив головного виночерпія на його посаді, і той давав у руки фараона чашу,
But he hanged the chief baker, as Joseph had interpreted to them.
а головного пекаря повісив, як і пояснив їм Йосиф.
