  • Azariah Reigns in Judah

    In the twenty-seventh year of Jeroboam king of Israel, Azariah the son of Amaziah, king of Judah, became king.
  • Uzziah Rules in Judah

    Uzziaha son of Amaziah began to rule over Judah in the twenty-seventh year of the reign of King Jeroboam II of Israel.
  • He was sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned fifty-two years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was Jecholiah of Jerusalem.
  • He was sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem fifty-two years. His mother was Jecoliah from Jerusalem.
  • And he did what was right in the sight of the Lord, according to all that his father Amaziah had done,
  • He did what was pleasing in the LORD’s sight, just as his father, Amaziah, had done.
  • except that the [a]high places were not removed; the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places.
  • But he did not destroy the pagan shrines, and the people still offered sacrifices and burned incense there.
  • Then the Lord struck the king, so that he was a leper until the day of his death; so he dwelt in an isolated house. And Jotham the king’s son was over the royal house, judging the people of the land.
  • The LORD struck the king with leprosy,b which lasted until the day he died. He lived in isolation in a separate house. The king’s son Jotham was put in charge of the royal palace, and he governed the people of the land.

  • So Azariah [b]rested with his fathers, and they buried him with his fathers in the City of David. Then Jotham his son reigned in his place.
  • When Uzziah died, he was buried with his ancestors in the City of David. And his son Jotham became the next king.
  • Zechariah Reigns in Israel

    In the thirty-eighth year of Azariah king of Judah, Zechariah the son of Jeroboam reigned over Israel in Samaria six months.

    Zechariah son of Jeroboam II began to rule over Israel in the thirty-eighth year of King Uzziah’s reign in Judah. He reigned in Samaria six months.
  • And he did evil in the sight of the Lord, as his fathers had done; he did not depart from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who had made Israel sin.
  • Zechariah did what was evil in the LORD’s sight, as his ancestors had done. He refused to turn from the sins that Jeroboam son of Nebat had led Israel to commit.
  • Then Shallum the son of Jabesh conspired against him, and struck and killed him in front of the people; and he reigned in his place.
  • Then Shallum son of Jabesh conspired against Zechariah, assassinated him in public,c and became the next king.

  • This was the word of the Lord which He spoke to Jehu, saying, “Your sons shall sit on the throne of Israel to the fourth generation.” And so it was.
  • So the LORD’s message to Jehu came true: “Your descendants will be kings of Israel down to the fourth generation.”

    Shallum the son of Jabesh became king in the thirty-ninth year of [c]Uzziah king of Judah; and he reigned a full month in Samaria.

    Shallum son of Jabesh began to rule over Israel in the thirty-ninth year of King Uzziah’s reign in Judah. Shallum reigned in Samaria only one month.
  • For Menahem the son of Gadi went up from Tirzah, came to Samaria, and struck Shallum the son of Jabesh in Samaria and killed him; and he reigned in his place.
  • Then Menahem son of Gadi went to Samaria from Tirzah and assassinated him, and he became the next king.

  • Then from Tirzah, Menahem attacked Tiphsah, all who were there, and its territory. Because they did not surrender, therefore he attacked it. All the women there who were with child he ripped open.

    At that time Menahem destroyed the town of Tappuahd and all the surrounding countryside as far as Tirzah, because its citizens refused to surrender the town. He killed the entire population and ripped open the pregnant women.

    In the thirty-ninth year of Azariah king of Judah, Menahem the son of Gadi became king over Israel, and reigned ten years in Samaria.

  • And he did evil in the sight of the Lord; he did not depart all his days from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who had made Israel sin.
  • But Menahem did what was evil in the LORD’s sight. During his entire reign, he refused to turn from the sins that Jeroboam son of Nebat had led Israel to commit.
  • Pul[e] king of Assyria came against the land; and Menahem gave Pul a thousand talents of silver, that his [f]hand might be with him to strengthen the kingdom under his control.
  • Then King Tiglath-pilesere of Assyria invaded the land. But Menahem paid him thirty-seven tonsf of silver to gain his support in tightening his grip on royal power.
  • And Menahem exacted[g] the money from Israel, from all the very wealthy, from each man fifty shekels of silver, to give to the king of Assyria. So the king of Assyria turned back, and did not stay there in the land.
  • Menahem extorted the money from the rich of Israel, demanding that each of them pay fifty piecesg of silver to the king of Assyria. So the king of Assyria turned from attacking Israel and did not stay in the land.

  • So Menahem [h]rested with his fathers. Then Pekahiah his son reigned in his place.
  • When Menahem died, his son Pekahiah became the next king.
  • Pekahiah Reigns in Israel

    In the fiftieth year of Azariah king of Judah, Pekahiah the son of Menahem became king over Israel in Samaria, and reigned two years.

  • Pekahiah Rules in Israel

    Pekahiah son of Menahem began to rule over Israel in the fiftieth year of King Uzziah’s reign in Judah. He reigned in Samaria two years.
  • And he did evil in the sight of the Lord; he did not depart from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who had made Israel sin.
  • But Pekahiah did what was evil in the LORD’s sight. He refused to turn from the sins that Jeroboam son of Nebat had led Israel to commit.
  • Then Pekah the son of Remaliah, an officer of his, conspired against him and [i]killed him in Samaria, in the citadel of the king’s house, along with Argob and Arieh; and with him were fifty men of Gilead. He killed him and reigned in his place.
  • Then Pekah son of Remaliah, the commander of Pekahiah’s army, conspired against him. With fifty men from Gilead, Pekah assassinated the king, along with Argob and Arieh, in the citadel of the palace at Samaria. And Pekah reigned in his place.

  • Pekah Reigns in Israel

    In the fifty-second year of Azariah king of Judah, Pekah the son of Remaliah became king over Israel in Samaria, and reigned twenty years.

  • Pekah Rules in Israel

    Pekah son of Remaliah began to rule over Israel in the fifty-second year of King Uzziah’s reign in Judah. He reigned in Samaria twenty years.
  • And he did evil in the sight of the Lord; he did not depart from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who had made Israel sin.
  • But Pekah did what was evil in the LORD’s sight. He refused to turn from the sins that Jeroboam son of Nebat had led Israel to commit.
  • In the days of Pekah king of Israel, [j]Tiglath-Pileser king of Assyria came and took Ijon, Abel Beth Maachah, Janoah, Kedesh, Hazor, Gilead, and Galilee, all the land of Naphtali; and he carried them captive to Assyria.
  • During Pekah’s reign, King Tiglath-pileser of Assyria attacked Israel again, and he captured the towns of Ijon, Abel-beth-maacah, Janoah, Kedesh, and Hazor. He also conquered the regions of Gilead, Galilee, and all of Naphtali, and he took the people to Assyria as captives.
  • Then Hoshea the son of Elah led a conspiracy against Pekah the son of Remaliah, and struck and killed him; so he reigned in his place in the twentieth year of Jotham the son of Uzziah.
  • Then Hoshea son of Elah conspired against Pekah and assassinated him. He began to rule over Israel in the twentieth year of Jotham son of Uzziah.

  • Jotham Reigns in Judah

    In the second year of Pekah the son of Remaliah, king of Israel, Jotham the son of Uzziah, king of Judah, began to reign.

  • Jotham Rules in Judah

    Jotham son of Uzziah began to rule over Judah in the second year of King Pekah’s reign in Israel.
  • He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. His mother’s name was [k]Jerusha the daughter of Zadok.
  • He was twenty-five years old when he became king, and he reigned in Jerusalem sixteen years. His mother was Jerusha, the daughter of Zadok.
  • And he did what was right in the sight of the Lord; he did according to all that his father Uzziah had done.
  • Jotham did what was pleasing in the LORD’s sight. He did everything his father, Uzziah, had done.
  • However the [l]high places were not removed; the people still sacrificed and burned incense on the high places. He built the Upper Gate of the house of the Lord.
  • But he did not destroy the pagan shrines, and the people still offered sacrifices and burned incense there. He rebuilt the upper gate of the Temple of the LORD.
  • Now the rest of the acts of Jotham, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah?
  • The rest of the events in Jotham’s reign and everything he did are recorded in The Book of the History of the Kings of Judah.
  • In those days the Lord began to send Rezin king of Syria and Pekah the son of Remaliah against Judah.
  • In those days the LORD began to send King Rezin of Aram and King Pekah of Israel to attack Judah.
  • So Jotham [m]rested with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the City of David his father. Then Ahaz his son reigned in his place.
  • When Jotham died, he was buried with his ancestors in the City of David. And his son Ahaz became the next king.
