David’s Further Conquests

After this it came to pass that David [a]attacked the Philistines, subdued them, and took Gath and its towns from the hand of the Philistines.

Після сього побив Давид Филистіїв і підневолив їх, і взяв Гет та залежні від його міста з рук Филистіїв.

Then he [b]defeated Moab, and the Moabites became David’s servants, and brought tribute.

До того побив Моабіїв, і стали Моабії невольниками Давидовими, платячи йому данину.

And David [c]defeated [d]Hadadezer king of Zobah as far as Hamath, as he went to establish his power by the River Euphrates.

Дальше побив Давид Адраазера, царя Собського, в Ематї, як він саме був у дорозї, утвердити свою власть при ріцї Евфратї.

David took from him one thousand chariots, [e]seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand foot soldiers. Also David [f]hamstrung all the chariot horses, except that he spared enough of them for one hundred chariots.

І забрав в його Давид тисячу возів, сїм тисяч кінноти й двайцять тисяч піхоти, і поламав Давид усї вози, зіставивши з їх тільки сто.

When the Syrians of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, David killed twenty-two thousand of the Syrians.

Дамаські Сирийцї прийшли були на поміч Адраазерові, цареві Собському, але Давид побив двайцять дві тисячі Сирийцїв.

Then David put garrisons in Syria of Damascus; and the Syrians became David’s servants, and brought tribute. So the Lord preserved David wherever he went.

І поставив Давид в Дамаській Сириї військо оборонне, і стали Сирийцї Давидовими підданими, платячи йому дань. І допомагав Господь Давидові скрізь, киди він було нї обернеться.

And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadadezer, and brought them to Jerusalem.

І забрав Давид золоті щити, що були в слуг Адраазерових, і принїс їх в Ерусалим.

Also from [g]Tibhath and from [h]Chun, cities of [i]Hadadezer, David brought a large amount of bronze, with which Solomon made the bronze [j]Sea, the pillars, and the articles of bronze.

А з Тивхати, та з Куна, міст Адраазерових, взяв Давид дуже багато мідї. З неї поробив Соломон мідяне море й стовпи й мідяний посуд.

Now when [k]Tou king of Hamath heard that David had [l]defeated all the army of Hadadezer king of Zobah,

І почув Той, царь Емату, що Давид побив усе військо Адраазера, Собського царя,

he sent [m]Hadoram his son to King David, to greet him and bless him, because he had fought against Hadadezer and [n]defeated him (for Hadadezer had been at war with Tou); and Hadoram brought with him all kinds of articles of gold, silver, and bronze.

І послав Йорама, сина свого, до царя Давида, поздоровити його й подякувати за те, що він воював з Адраазером і побив його, — бо Той воювався з Адраазером — і (принїс з собою) посуд золотий, срібний та мідяний;

11

King David also dedicated these to the Lord, along with the silver and gold that he had brought from all these nations — from Edom, from Moab, from the people of Ammon, from the Philistines, and from Amalek.

І присьвятив се царь Давид Господеві вкупі з сріблом та золотом, що забрав у всїх народів: в Ідумеїв, Моабіїв, Аммонїїв, Филистіїв та в Амаликіїв.

Moreover Abishai the son of Zeruiah killed eighteen thousand [o]Edomites in the Valley of Salt.

Абесса ж Саруєнко побив Ідуміїв в Соляній долинї — вісїмнайцять тисяч;

He also put garrisons in Edom, and all the Edomites became David’s servants. And the Lord preserved David wherever he went.

І поставив в Ідумеї військо оборонне й стали всї Ідумії Давидовими підданими. Господь допомагав Давидові скрізь, куди він повертався.

David’s Administration

So David reigned over all Israel, and administered judgment and justice to all his people.

І царював Давид над усїм Ізраїлем, і чинив суд і справедливість всему народові свойму.

Joab the son of Zeruiah was over the army; Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was recorder;

Йоаб Саруєнко гетьманував над військом, Йосафат же Ахилуденко списував дїї;

16

Zadok the son of Ahitub and [p]Abimelech the son of Abiathar were the priests; [q]Shavsha was the scribe;

А Садок, Ахитубів син, та Ахимелех, син Абіятарів, були сьвященниками, а Суса писарем;

17

Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and the Pelethites; and David’s sons were [r]chief ministers at the king’s side.

17

А Банея Йодаєнко був над хелетеями та фелетеями, Давидові ж сини — першими дворянами.
