Jehoshaphat’s Additional Reforms

Then Jehoshaphat the king of Judah returned safely to his house in Jerusalem.

І вернувся Йосафа́т, цар Юдин, із ми́ром до дому свого́ до Єрусалиму.

And Jehu the son of Hanani the seer went out to meet him, and said to King Jehoshaphat, “Should you help the wicked and love those who hate the Lord? Therefore the wrath of the Lord is upon you.

І вийшов перед нього прозорли́вець Єгу, син Ханані, та й сказав до царя Йосафата: „Чи бу́деш допомагати несправедливому, а тих, хто нена́видить Господа, бу́деш любити? І за це на тобі гнів від Господнього лиця.

Nevertheless good things are found in you, in that you have removed the [a]wooden images from the land, and have prepared your heart to seek God.”

3

Але й добрі речі знайшлися при тобі, бо ти повигу́блював Аста́рти з Кра́ю, і нахилив своє серце, щоб шукати Господа“.

The Reforms of Jehoshaphat

So Jehoshaphat dwelt at Jerusalem; and he went out again among the people from Beersheba to the mountains of Ephraim, and brought them back to the Lord God of their fathers.

І осівся Йосафат в Єрусалимі, і він зно́ву вихо́див між народ від Беер-Шеви аж до Єфремових гір, і наверта́в їх до Господа, Бога їхніх батьків.

Then he set judges in the land throughout all the fortified cities of Judah, city by city,

І понаставля́в він суддів у Краю́, по всіх укрі́плених Юдиних містах, для кожного міста.

and said to the judges, “Take heed to what you are doing, for you do not judge for man but for the Lord, who is with you [b]in the judgment.

І сказав він до суддів: „Дивіться, що́ ви робите, бо не для люди́ни ви судите, але для Господа, і Він з вами в справі суду.

7

Now therefore, let the fear of the Lord be upon you; take care and do it, for there is no iniquity with the Lord our God, no partiality, nor taking of bribes.”

А тепер нехай буде Господній страх на вас. Стережіться й робіть, бо нема в Господа, Бога нашого, кривди, ані огляду на особу, ані брання́ дару́нка“.

Moreover in Jerusalem, for the judgment of the Lord and for controversies, Jehoshaphat appointed some of the Levites and priests, and some of the chief fathers of Israel, [c]when they returned to Jerusalem.

А також в Єрусалимі понаставля́в Йосафат з Левитів і з священиків та з голів ба́тьківських домів Ізраїля для Господнього су́ду та для супере́чок. І вернулися вони до Єрусалиму.

And he commanded them, saying, “Thus you shall act in the fear of the Lord, faithfully and with a loyal heart:

І він наказав їм, говорячи: „Отак чині́ть у страху́ Господньому, вірністю та ці́лим серцем.

Whatever case comes to you from your brethren who dwell in their cities, whether of bloodshed or offenses against law or commandment, against statutes or ordinances, you shall warn them, lest they trespass against the Lord and wrath come upon you and your brethren. Do this, and you will not be guilty.

А щодо всякої супере́чки, що при́йде до вас від ваших братів, що сидять по містах своїх, де треба розсудити чи то за кров, чи то за Зако́н, чи то за заповідь, устави, чи за права́, то остережете їх, і вони не згрішать Господе́ві, і не буде гніву на вас та на ваших братів. Так робіть, і не згрішите!

And take notice: Amariah the chief priest is over you in all matters of the Lord; and Zebadiah the son of Ishmael, the ruler of the house of Judah, for all the king’s matters; also the Levites will be officials before you. Behave courageously, and the Lord will be with the good.”

А ось священик Амарія — голова над вами до всяких Господніх рече́й, а Завадія, син Ізмаїлів, володар Юдиного дому, — до всякої царевої речі, і писарі Левити — перед вами. Будьте міцні й зробіть, — і нехай буде Господь з добрим!“
