And he did what was right in the sight of the Lord, and walked in the ways of his father David; he did not turn aside to the right hand or to the left.

І восьмого року царюва́ння свого, бувши ще юнако́м, розпоча́в він зверта́тися до Бога батька свого Давида, а дванадцятого року розпочав очищати Юду та Єрусалим від па́гірків, і Аста́рт, і бовва́нів рі́заних та литих.
They broke down the altars of the Baals in his presence, and the incense altars which were above them he cut down; and the wooden images, the carved images, and the molded images he broke in pieces, and made dust of them and scattered it on the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.
І порозбивали перед ним Ваалові же́ртівники, а стовпи́ сонця, що були на них, він повиру́бував, а Астарти, і бовва́ни різані та литі полама́в і розтер, і розкидав на гроби́ тих, хто прино́сив їм жертви.
He also burned the bones of the priests on their altars, and cleansed Judah and Jerusalem.
А кості жерців попалив на їхніх же́ртівниках, і очи́стив Юдею та Єрусалим.
А по містах Манасії, і Єфрема, і Симеона, і аж до Нефталима по їхніх руїнах навко́ло
When he had broken down the altars and the wooden images, had beaten the carved images into powder, and cut down all the incense altars throughout all the land of Israel, he returned to Jerusalem.
порозбива́в же́ртівники та Аста́рти, і потовк бовва́ни на порох, а всі ідоли сонця повиру́бував в усьому Ізраїлевому кра́ї, і вернувся до Єрусалиму.
А вісімнадцятого року царюва́ння його́, по очи́щенні Кра́ю та Божого дому, послав він Шафана, сина Ацалії, і Маасею, зверхника міста, та Йоаха, та ка́нцлера Йоаха, сина Йохазового, щоб напра́вити дім Господа, Бога його.
When they came to Hilkiah the high priest, they delivered the money that was brought into the house of God, which the Levites who kept the doors had gathered from the hand of Manasseh and Ephraim, from all the remnant of Israel, from all Judah and Benjamin, and which they had brought back to Jerusalem.
І прийшли вони до первосвященика Хілкійї, і дали срібло, що було зне́сене до Господнього дому, яке зібрали Левити, що стерегли́ поро́га, з руки Манасії й Єфрема, та з усієї решти Ізраїля, і з усього Юди й Веніямина та ме́шканців Єрусалиму.
Then they put it in the hand of the foremen who had the oversight of the house of the Lord; and they gave it to the workmen who worked in the house of the Lord, to repair and restore the house.
I дали́ на руку робітникі́в праці, приста́влених до Господнього дому, а робітники тієї праці, що робили в Господньому домі, віддали́ на відбудову та на направу Божого дому.
They gave it to the craftsmen and builders to buy hewn stone and timber for beams, and to floor the houses which the kings of Judah had destroyed.
І дали́ вони те́слям, і будівни́чим, щоб купувати те́сане камі́ння та дере́ва на зв'я́зування та на покриття́ домів, що їх понищили Юдині царі.
And the men did the work faithfully. Their overseers were Jahath and Obadiah the Levites, of the sons of Merari, and Zechariah and Meshullam, of the sons of the Kohathites, to supervise. Others of the Levites, all of whom were skillful with instruments of music,
А ті люди чесно вико́нували працю, а над ними були́ поста́влені Яхат та Овадія, Левити з синів Мерарієвих, і Захарій та Мешуллам із синів Кегатівців для керува́ння. А всі ті Левіти, що розумілися на музичних знаря́ддях,
were over the burden bearers and were overseers of all who did work in any kind of service. And some of the Levites were scribes, officers, and gatekeepers.
були над носія́ми, і керували всіма́ робітника́ми на кожну роботу; а з Левитів були писарі́ й уря́дники та придве́рні.
Now when they brought out the money that was brought into the house of the Lord, Hilkiah the priest found the Book of the Law of the Lord given by Moses.
А коли вони виймали срібло, прине́сене до Господнього дому, священик Хілкійя знайшов книгу Господнього Зако́ну, даного через Мойсея.
Then Hilkiah answered and said to Shaphan the scribe, “I have found the Book of the Law in the house of the Lord.” And Hilkiah gave the book to Shaphan.
І відповів Хілкійя й сказав до пи́саря Шафана: „Я знайшов у Господньому домі книгу Зако́ну!“ І дав Хілкійя ту книгу Діафанові.
So Shaphan carried the book to the king, bringing the king word, saying, “All that was committed to your servants they are doing.
І приніс Шафан ту книгу до царя, і приніс царе́ві ще відповідь, говорячи: „Усе, що да́но через твоїх рабів, вони роблять.
І вони ви́сипали те срібло, що зна́йдене в Господньому домі, і дали його на руку приста́влених та на руку робітникі́в праці“.
Then Shaphan the scribe told the king, saying, “Hilkiah the priest has given me a book.” And Shaphan read it before the king.
І доніс писар Шафан цареві, говорячи: „Священик Хілкійя дав мені книгу“. І Шафан перечитав з неї перед царем.
Thus it happened, when the king heard the words of the Law, that he tore his clothes.
І сталося, як цар почув слова́ книги Зако́ну, то розде́р свої шати...
І наказав цар Хілкійї, і Ахікамові, Шафановому синові, і Авдонові, Міхиному синові, і писареві Шафанові, і Асаї, царевому рабові, говорячи:
“Go, inquire of the Lord for me, and for those who are left in Israel and Judah, concerning the words of the book that is found; for great is the wrath of the Lord that is poured out on us, because our fathers have not kept the word of the Lord, to do according to all that is written in this book.”
„Ідіть, зверніться до Господа про мене та про позосталих в Ізраїлі та в Юдеї, про слова́ цієї книги, що зна́йдена. Великий бо гнів Господній, що вилився на нас за те, що батьки наші не дотри́мували Господнього слова, щоб робити все, як написано в цій книзі“.
І пішов Хілкійя та ті, кому́ звелів цар, до пророчиці Хулди, жінки Шаллума, сина Токегата, сина Хасриного, сто́рожа шат, а вона сиділа в Єрусалимі на Ново́му Місті, — і говорили до неї про це.
Then she answered them, “Thus says the Lord God of Israel, ‘Tell the man who sent you to Me,
А вона сказала до них: „Так говорить Господь, Бог Ізраїлів: Скажіть чоловікові, що послав вас до мене:
“Thus says the Lord: ‘Behold, I will bring calamity on this place and on its inhabitants, all the curses that are written in the book which they have read before the king of Judah,
Так говорить Господь: Ось Я наведу́ лихо на оце місце та на ме́шканців його, усі ті прокля́ття, що написані в книзі, яку читали перед Юдиним царем,
because they have forsaken Me and burned incense to other gods, that they might provoke Me to anger with all the works of their hands. Therefore My wrath will be poured out on this place, and not be quenched.’ ” ’
за те, що вони поки́нули Мене й кадили іншим бога́м, щоб гніви́ти Мене всіма́ ділами своїх рук. І вилився гнів Мій на це місце, — і він не погасне.
But as for the king of Judah, who sent you to inquire of the Lord, in this manner you shall speak to him, ‘Thus says the Lord God of Israel: “Concerning the words which you have heard —
А Юдиному царе́ві, що послав вас звернутися до Господа, скажете йому так: Так говорить Господь, Бог Ізраїлів, — про ті слова́, які ти чув:
because your heart was tender, and you humbled yourself before God when you heard His words against this place and against its inhabitants, and you humbled yourself before Me, and you tore your clothes and wept before Me, I also have heard you,” says the Lord.
За те, що зм'якло твоє серце, і ти впокори́вся перед лицем Бога свого, коли ти почув слова́ Його на це місце та на ме́шканців його, і ти впокори́вся перед лицем Моїм, і розде́р свої шати та плакав перед Моїм лицем, то Я також почув, — говорить Господь.
“Surely I will gather you to your fathers, and you shall be gathered to your grave in peace; and your eyes shall not see all the calamity which I will bring on this place and its inhabitants.” ’ ” So they brought back word to the king.
Ось Я прилучу́ тебе до батькі́в твоїх, і ти бу́деш прилу́чений до гробі́в своїх у споко́ї, і очі твої не побачать усього того лиха, що Я наведу́ на оце місце та на ме́шканців його!“ І вони прине́сли відповідь цареві.
Josiah Restores True Worship
Then the king sent and gathered all the elders of Judah and Jerusalem.

А цар послав, і зібрав усіх старши́х Юдеї та Єрусалиму.
The king went up to the house of the Lord, with all the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem — the priests and the Levites, and all the people, great and small. And he read in their hearing all the words of the Book of the Covenant which had been found in the house of the Lord.
І ввійшов до Господнього дому цар, і кожен муж Юдеї, і ме́шканці Єрусалиму, і священики, і Левити, і ввесь народ від великого й аж до мало́го, і він прочитав уго́лос слова́ книги Заповіту, зна́йденої в Господньому домі.
Then the king stood in his place and made a covenant before the Lord, to follow the Lord, and to keep His commandments and His testimonies and His statutes with all his heart and all his soul, to perform the words of the covenant that were written in this book.
І став цар на своєму місці, і склав заповіта перед Господнім лицем, щоб ходити за Господом та додержувати заповіді Його, і сві́дчення Його, і устави Його всім серцем своїм та всім життям своїм, щоб вико́нувати слова́ того заповіту, що написані в тій книзі.
And he made all who were present in Jerusalem and Benjamin take a stand. So the inhabitants of Jerusalem did according to the covenant of God, the God of their fathers.
І наставив він кожного, хто знахо́дився в Єрусалимі та в Веніямині, до того. І ме́шканці Єрусалиму робили за заповітом Бога, Бога своїх батьків.
І Йосі́я повикидав усі поганські гидо́ти з усіх країв, що в Ізраїлевих синів, і змусив кожного, хто знахо́дився в Ізраїлі, служити Господе́ві, їхньому Богові. За всіх днів його вони не відступали від Господа, Бога своїх батьків.
