Nehemiah Prays for His People

The words of Nehemiah the son of Hachaliah.
It came to pass in the month of Chislev, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan[a] the [b]citadel,

Книга Неемії, сина Ахалії: І сталося в місяці хасеїлі двадцятого року, коли я був у Сузі, у замку,

that Hanani one of my brethren came with men from Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews who had escaped, who had survived the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.

то прийшов Ананій, один із моїх братів, — він і мужі Юди, — і я запитав їх про тих, які збереглися при житті, хто залишився з полонених, і про Єрусалим.

And they said to me, “The survivors who are left from the captivity in the province are there in great distress and reproach. The wall of Jerusalem is also broken down, and its gates are burned with fire.”

А він сказали мені: Ті, які залишилися з переселення, там в країні у великому злі та в приниженні, а стіни Єрусалима знищені, і його брами спалені вогнем.

So it was, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned for many days; I was fasting and praying before the God of heaven.

І сталося, коли я почув ці слова, я сів і заплакав, і плакав декілька днів, постив, молився перед Небесним Богом

And I said: “I pray, Lord God of heaven, O great and awesome God, You who keep Your covenant and mercy with those who love [c]You and observe [d]Your commandments,

і сказав: Ні, Господи, Боже неба, сильний, великий і грізний, Той, Хто береже завіт і милосердя до тих, які Його люблять і дотримуються Його заповідей!

please let Your ear be attentive and Your eyes open, that You may hear the prayer of Your servant which I pray before You now, day and night, for the children of Israel Your servants, and confess the sins of the children of Israel which we have sinned against You. Both my father’s house and I have sinned.

Нехай же буде Твоє вухо чуйним і Твої очі відкритими, щоб почути молитву Твого раба, якою я молюся перед Тобою сьогоднішнього дня і ночі за синів Ізраїля, Твоїх рабів, і визнаю гріхи синів Ізраїля, якими ми згрішили проти Тебе! Я і дім мого батька — ми згрішили!

We have acted very corruptly against You, and have not kept the commandments, the statutes, nor the ordinances which You commanded Your servant Moses.

Ми дійсно відступили від Тебе і не дотримувалися заповідей, приписів і судів, які Ти заповів Мойсеєві, Твоєму рабові!

Remember, I pray, the word that You commanded Your servant Moses, saying, ‘If you [e]are unfaithful, I will scatter you among the nations;

Та згадай слово, яке Ти заповів Мойсеєві, Твоєму рабові, кажучи: Якщо ви порушите завіт, Я вас розсію поміж народами.

but if you return to Me, and keep My commandments and do them, though some of you were cast out to the farthest part of the heavens, yet I will gather them from there, and bring them to the place which I have chosen as a dwelling for My name.’

А якщо ви повернетеся до Мене, будете дотримуватися Моїх заповідей і чинитимете їх, то навіть якщо ваше розсіяння буде від краю неба, Я звідти зберу їх і заведу їх у місце, яке Я вибрав, щоб поселити там Моє Ім’я!

Now these are Your servants and Your people, whom You have redeemed by Your great power, and by Your strong hand.

Вони — раби Твої і Твій народ, яких Ти викупив Твоєю великою силою і Твоєю сильною рукою!

O Lord, I pray, please let Your ear be attentive to the prayer of Your servant, and to the prayer of Your servants who desire to fear Your name; and let Your servant prosper this day, I pray, and grant him mercy in the sight of this man.”
For I was the king’s cupbearer.

Ні, але нехай буде чуйним Твоє вухо на молитву Твого раба і на молитву Твоїх рабів, які бажають боятися Твого Імені, тож дай, щоб пощастило сьогодні Твоєму рабові, дай йому милосердя перед цим чоловіком. А я є підчаший царя.
