Haman’s Conspiracy Against the Jews

After these things King Ahasuerus promoted Haman, the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and advanced him and set his seat above all the princes who were with him.

По цих подіях цар Ахашверо́ш звеличив Га́мана, сина Гаммедатового, аґаґ'янина, і пови́щив його, і поставив його крісло понад усіх князі́в, що були з ним.

And all the king’s servants who were within the king’s gate bowed and paid homage to Haman, for so the king had commanded concerning him. But Mordecai would not bow or pay homage.

А всі цареві раби, що були в царські́й брамі, падали на коліна та вклонялися Га́манові, бо так про нього наказав цар. А Мордеха́й не падав на коліна й не вклоня́вся.

Then the king’s servants who were within the king’s gate said to Mordecai, “Why do you transgress the king’s command?”

І сказали царські́ раби, що були в царські́й брамі, до Мордеха́я: „Чого ти переступа́єш царе́вого нака́за?“

Now it happened, when they spoke to him daily and he would not listen to them, that they told it to Haman, to see whether Mordecai’s words would stand; for Mordecai had told them that he was a Jew.

І сталося, як вони говорили до нього день-у-день, а він не слу́хався їх, то вони доне́сли Га́манові, щоб побачити, чи втри́мається Мордеха́й у своїм слові, бо він виявив їм, що він юде́янин.

When Haman saw that Mordecai did not bow or pay him homage, Haman was filled with wrath.

І побачив Га́ман, що Мордеха́й не падає на коліна й не вклоняється йому́, — і Га́ман перепо́внився лю́тістю...

But he disdained to lay hands on Mordecai alone, for they had told him of the people of Mordecai. Instead, Haman sought to destroy all the Jews who were throughout the whole kingdom of Ahasuerus — the people of Mordecai.

І пого́рджував він у своїх оча́х простягну́ти руку свою не тільки на Мордехая, самого його, бо доне́сли йому про Мордеха́їв наро́д, і Га́ман шукав випадку ви́губити всіх юде́ян, що були в усьому Ахашверо́шевому царстві, наро́д Мордеха́їв.

In the first month, which is the month of Nisan, in the twelfth year of King Ahasuerus, they cast Pur (that is, the lot), before Haman [a]to determine the day and the [b]month, [c]until it fell on the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar.

Першого місяця, він місяць нісан, дванадцятого року царя Ахашверо́ша, ки́дано пу́ра, цебто жеребка́, перед Га́маном із дня на день та з місяця на місяць, і жереб упав на дванадцятий місяць, він місяць адар.

Then Haman said to King Ahasuerus, “There is a certain people scattered and dispersed among the people in all the provinces of your kingdom; their laws are different from all other people’s, and they do not keep the king’s laws. Therefore it is not fitting for the king to let them remain.

І сказав Га́ман до царя Ахашверо́ша: „Є один наро́д, розпоро́шений та поді́лений між наро́дами в усіх окру́гах твого царства, а зако́ни їх рі́зняться від зако́нів усіх наро́дів і зако́нів царськи́х вони не вико́нують, — і цареві не варто позоставля́ти їх.

If it pleases the king, let a decree be written that they be destroyed, and I will pay ten thousand talents of silver into the hands of those who do the work, to bring it into the king’s treasuries.”

Якщо це цареві вгодне, нехай бу́де написано ви́губити їх, а я відва́жу десять тисяч талантів срібла на руки робітникі́в, щоб уне́сли до царськи́х скарбни́ць“!

So the king took his signet ring from his hand and gave it to Haman, the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, the enemy of the Jews.

І зняв цар пе́рсня свого́ зо своєї руки, і дав його Га́манові, синові Гаммедатовому, аґаґ'янинові, нена́висникові юде́їв.

And the king said to Haman, “The money and the people are given to you, to do with them as seems good to you.”

І сказав цар до Га́мана: „Це срібло віддаю́ тобі, і дається тобі й той наро́д, щоб робити з ним, як угодно в оча́х твоїх!“

Then the king’s scribes were called on the thirteenth day of the first month, and a decree was written according to all that Haman commanded — to the king’s satraps, to the governors who were over each province, to the officials of all people, to every province according to its script, and to every people in their language. In the name of King Ahasuerus it was written, and sealed with the king’s signet ring.

І були́ покликані царські́ писарі́ першого місяця тринадцятого дня в ньому, і було написано все так, як наказав Га́ман до царськи́х сатра́пів та до намі́сників, що були над кожною окру́гою, і до князі́в кожного наро́ду, до кожної окру́ги письмо́м його, і до кожного наро́ду мовою його; в імені царя Ахашвероша було написано, і припеча́тано було́ царськи́м пе́рснем.

And the letters were sent by couriers into all the king’s provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to annihilate all the Jews, both young and old, little children and women, in one day, on the thirteenth day of the twelfth month, which is the month of Adar, and to plunder their [d]possessions.

І були́ послані листи через гінці́в до всіх царськи́х окру́г, щоб були повигу́блювані, побиті та понищені всі юдеї від хлопця й аж до старо́го, діти та жінки́ одного тринадцятого дня місяця дванадцятого, він місяць адар, а здо́бич по них пограбува́ти.

A copy of the document was to be issued as law in every province, being published for all people, that they should be ready for that day.

Ві́дпис із цього листа щоб був виданий як зако́н, у кожній окру́зі, і оголо́шений для всіх наро́дів, щоб були́ готові на цей день.

The couriers went out, hastened by the king’s command; and the decree was proclaimed in [e]Shushan the [f]citadel. So the king and Haman sat down to drink, but the city of Shushan was [g]perplexed.

Гінці́ вийшли, пі́гнані царе́вим словом. А зако́н був ви́даний в за́мку Су́зи. А цар та Га́ман сіли до пиття́, а місто Сузи було в замі́шанні.
