Job Speaks of Life’s Woes

“Man who is born of woman
Is of few days and full of [a]trouble.

1

Человек, рождённый женою, краткодневен и пресыщен печалями:

2

He comes forth like a flower and fades away;
He flees like a shadow and does not continue.

2

как цветок, он выходит и опадает; убегает, как тень, и не останавливается.

3

And do You open Your eyes on such a one,
And bring [b]me to judgment with Yourself?

И на него-то Ты отверзаешь очи Твои, и меня ведёшь на суд с Тобою?

4

Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean?
No one!

4

Кто родится чистым от нечистого? Ни один.

5

Since his days are determined,
The number of his months is with You;
You have appointed his limits, so that he cannot pass.

Если дни ему определены, и число месяцев его у Тебя, если Ты положил ему предел, которого он не перейдёт,

6

Look away from him that he may [c]rest,
Till like a hired man he finishes his day.

6

то уклонись от него: пусть он отдохнёт, доколе не окончит, как наёмник, дня своего.

7

“For there is hope for a tree,
If it is cut down, that it will sprout again,
And that its tender shoots will not cease.

Для дерева есть надежда, что оно, если и будет срублено, снова оживёт, и отрасли от него выходить не перестанут:

8

Though its root may grow old in the earth,
And its stump may die in the ground,

если и устарел в земле корень его, и пень его замер в пыли,

9

Yet at the scent of water it will bud
And bring forth branches like a plant.

но, лишь почуяло воду, оно даёт отпрыски и пускает ветви, как бы вновь посаженное.

10

But man dies and [d]is laid away;
Indeed he [e]breathes his last
And where is he?

А человек умирает и распадается; отошёл, и где он?

11

As water disappears from the sea,
And a river becomes parched and dries up,

11

Уходят воды из озера, и река иссякает и высыхает:

12

So man lies down and does not rise.
Till the heavens are no more,
They will not awake
Nor be roused from their sleep.

так человек ляжет и не встанет; до скончания неба он не пробудится и не воспрянет от сна своего.

13

“Oh, that You would hide me in the grave,
That You would conceal me until Your wrath is past,
That You would appoint me a set time, and remember me!

13

О, если бы Ты в преисподней сокрыл меня и укрывал меня, пока пройдёт гнев Твой, положил мне срок и потом вспомнил обо мне!

14

If a man dies, shall he live again?
All the days of my hard service I will wait,
Till my change comes.

14

Когда умрёт человек, то будет ли он опять жить? Во все дни определённого мне времени я ожидал бы, пока придёт мне смена.

15

You shall call, and I will answer You;
You shall desire the work of Your hands.

15

Воззвал бы Ты, и я дал бы Тебе ответ, и Ты явил бы благоволение творению рук Твоих;

16

For now You number my steps,
But do not watch over my sin.

16

ибо тогда Ты исчислял бы шаги мои и не подстерегал бы греха моего;

17

My transgression is sealed up in a bag,
And You [f]cover my iniquity.

17

в свитке было бы запечатано беззаконие моё, и Ты закрыл бы вину мою.

18

“But as a mountain falls and crumbles away,
And as a rock is moved from its place;

18

Но гора, падая, разрушается, и скала сходит с места своего;

19

As water wears away stones,
And as torrents wash away the soil of the earth;
So You destroy the hope of man.

19

вода стирает камни; разлив её смывает земную пыль: так и надежду человека Ты уничтожаешь.

20

You prevail forever against him, and he passes on;
You change his countenance and send him away.

20

Теснишь его до конца, и он уходит; изменяешь ему лицо и отсылаешь его.

21

His sons come to honor, and he does not know it;
They are brought low, and he does not perceive it.

21

В чести ли дети его — он не знает, унижены ли — он не замечает;

22

But his flesh will be in pain over it,
And his soul will mourn over it.”

22

но плоть его на нём болит, и душа его в нём страдает.
