разве может человек доставлять пользу Богу? Разумный доставляет пользу себе самому.
Is it any pleasure to the Almighty that you are righteous?
Or is it gain to Him that you make your ways blameless?

Что за удовольствие Вседержителю, что ты праведен? И будет ли Ему выгода от того, что ты содержишь пути твои в непорочности?
“Is it because of your fear of Him that He corrects you,
And enters into judgment with you?

Неужели Он, боясь тебя, вступит с тобою в состязание, пойдёт судиться с тобою?
Is not your wickedness great,
And your iniquity without end?

Верно, злоба твоя велика, и беззакониям твоим нет конца.
For you have taken pledges from your brother for no reason,
And stripped the naked of their clothing.

Верно, ты брал залоги от братьев твоих ни за что и с полунагих снимал одежду.
You have not given the weary water to drink,

Утомлённому жаждою не подавал воды напиться и голодному отказывал в хлебе;
а человеку сильному ты давал землю, и сановитый селился на ней.
Вдов ты отсылал ни с чем и сирот оставлял с пустыми руками.

Thick clouds cover Him, so that He cannot see,

“The righteous see it and are glad,

Receive, please, instruction from His mouth,

И будет Вседержитель твоим золотом и блестящим серебром у тебя,
For then you will have your delight in the Almighty,

You will make your prayer to Him,
