Eliphaz Accuses Job of Wickedness

Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said:

1

Підхопивши, Еліфас, теманієць, сказав:

“Can a man be profitable to God,
Though he who is wise may be profitable to himself?

2

Хіба Господь не є Тим, Хто навчає розуму і вмінню?

3

Is it any pleasure to the Almighty that you are righteous?
Or is it gain to Him that you make your ways blameless?

Адже яка користь Господу, якщо ти був невинний у вчинках? Чи вигода, що ти простою тримав свою дорогу?

4

“Is it because of your fear of Him that He corrects you,
And enters into judgment with you?

4

Чи, роблячи твоє слово, Він тебе звинуватить і вийде з тобою на суд?

5

Is not your wickedness great,
And your iniquity without end?

5

Хіба твої злодіяння не є великими, а твої гріхи незчисленні?

6

For you have taken pledges from your brother for no reason,
And stripped the naked of their clothing.

А ти брав у заставу у твоїх братів за ніщо, — одяг же нагих ти забирав.

7

You have not given the weary water to drink,
And you have withheld bread from the hungry.

7

Ти не напоїв водою спраглих, але в голодуючих ти забрав кусень хліба.

8

But the [a]mighty man possessed the land,
And the honorable man dwelt in it.

Ти ж сприйняв обличчя деяких і заселив тих, хто на землі.

9

You have sent widows away empty,
And the [b]strength of the fatherless was crushed.

Вдів ти відіслав з порожніми руками, а сиротам заподіяв зло.

10

Therefore snares are all around you,
And sudden fear troubles you,

Тому-то тебе оточили засідки, і надзвичайна війна завдала тобі клопоту.

11

Or darkness so that you cannot see;
And an abundance of water covers you.

Світло тобі стало темрявою, коли ти лежав, вода тебе покрила.

12

“Is not God in the height of heaven?
And see the highest stars, how lofty they are!

Хіба не бачить Той, Хто живе на висотах, Який упокорює тих, котрі гордовито підносяться?

13

And you say, ‘What does God know?
Can He judge through the deep darkness?

13

І ти сказав: Про що Сильний дізнався? Хіба Він розсудить у темряві?

14

Thick clouds cover Him, so that He cannot see,
And He walks above the circle of heaven.’

Хмара — Його сховище, і Він не покажеться, і пройде довкола неба.

15

Will you keep to the old way
Which wicked men have trod,

15

Чи триматимешся вічної стежки, якою ходили неправедні мужі,

16

Who were cut down before their time,
Whose foundations were swept away by a flood?

16

які були забрані передчасно? Їхні основи — ріка, що тече.

17

They said to God, ‘Depart from us!
What can the Almighty do to [c]them?’

Вони кажуть: Що зробить нам Господь? Або: Що Вседержитель на нас наведе?

18

Yet He filled their houses with good things;
But the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

18

Він же наповнив їхні доми добром, а рада безбожних далека від Нього.

19

“The righteous see it and are glad,
And the innocent laugh at them:

19

Праведні, побачивши, висміяли, і непорочний поглузував.

20

‘Surely our [d]adversaries are cut down,
And the fire consumes their remnant.’

20

А їхнє майно знищене, і їхній останок пожирає вогонь.

21

“Now acquaint yourself with Him, and be at peace;
Thereby good will come to you.

21

Будь же твердим, якщо залишаєшся. Тоді твій плід буде в добрі.

22

Receive, please, instruction from His mouth,
And lay up His words in your heart.

22

Тож прийми сказане Його устами, — прийми Його слова до свого серця.

23

If you return to the Almighty, you will be built up;
You will remove iniquity far from your tents.

23

Якщо ж повернешся і впокориш себе перед Господом, ти віддалиш неправедне від твого життя.

24

Then you will lay your gold in the dust,
And the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brooks.

24

Ти будеш поставлений на землі, на камені, — наче на камені потоку Офір.

25

Yes, the Almighty will be your [e]gold
And your precious silver;

25

Отже, Вседержитель буде твоїм помічником від ворогів, а тебе зробить чистим, наче золото, випробуване вогнем.

26

For then you will have your delight in the Almighty,
And lift up your face to God.

26

Тоді станеш сміливий перед Господом, радісно поглянувши на небо.

27

You will make your prayer to Him,
He will hear you,
And you will pay your vows.

27

Коли ти помолишся до Нього, Він тебе вислухає, дасть тобі виконати обітниці.

28

You will also declare a thing,
And it will be established for you;
So light will shine on your ways.

28

Він приготує тобі життя праведності, і на твоїх дорогах буде світло.

29

When they cast you down, and you say, ‘Exaltation will come!’
Then He will save the humble person.

29

Бо ти себе впокорив, і скажеш: Він звеличився, та спасає того, хто схиляє очі.

30

He will even deliver one who is not innocent;
Yes, he will be delivered by the purity of your hands.”

30

Він врятує невинного, і ти врятуєшся через чистоту своїх рук.
