Eliphaz Accuses Job of Wickedness

Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered and said:

“Can a man be profitable to God,
Though he who is wise may be profitable to himself?

Is it any pleasure to the Almighty that you are righteous?
Or is it gain to Him that you make your ways blameless?

Что радости Всемогущему в праведности твоей? Какая польза Ему, даже если пути твои чисты?

“Is it because of your fear of Him that He corrects you,
And enters into judgment with you?

Разве из-за набожности твоей Он поучает тебя и идёт судиться с тобой?

5

Is not your wickedness great,
And your iniquity without end?

5

Должно быть, велики твои грехи, и нет конца твоим грехам!

6

For you have taken pledges from your brother for no reason,
And stripped the naked of their clothing.

Верно, ты ни за что залоги брал от брата твоего и с бедного снимал одежду под залог?

7

You have not given the weary water to drink,
And you have withheld bread from the hungry.

Может быть, не дал воды ты утомлённому, и отказался голодному дать хлеб.

But the [a]mighty man possessed the land,
And the honorable man dwelt in it.

А был ты властным человеком, владел землею, и уважаем был.

9

You have sent widows away empty,
And the [b]strength of the fatherless was crushed.

Но, может быть, ты отсылал вдов с пустыми руками, или обманывал сирот.

10

Therefore snares are all around you,
And sudden fear troubles you,

Потому и ловушки вокруг тебя, потому и страшит тебя всё,

Or darkness so that you cannot see;
And an abundance of water covers you.

потому и темно тебе, что не видишь, потому и заливает наводненье тебя.

“Is not God in the height of heaven?
And see the highest stars, how lofty they are!

Не выше ли небес живёт Бог! Не смотрит ли Он вниз на самую высокую звезду!

13

And you say, ‘What does God know?
Can He judge through the deep darkness?

13

А ты всё же говоришь: "Что знает Бог? Может ли Он видеть и судить нас сквозь темень облаков?

14

Thick clouds cover Him, so that He cannot see,
And He walks above the circle of heaven.’

Густые облака Его от нас закрыли, и не видит нас Он, когда идёт по небосводу".

15

Will you keep to the old way
Which wicked men have trod,

15

Будешь ли протаптывать ты и дальше ту древнюю тропу, проложенную злобными людьми?

16

Who were cut down before their time,
Whose foundations were swept away by a flood?

16

Погибли они до срока, унесло наводнение их.

17

They said to God, ‘Depart from us!
What can the Almighty do to [c]them?’

"Оставь нас", — говорили они Господу. — "Что Всемогущий для нас может сделать?"

18

Yet He filled their houses with good things;
But the counsel of the wicked is far from me.

18

А ведь был Он, тот, кто добром наполнял их дома. Так что злобных советчиков я сторонюсь.

19

“The righteous see it and are glad,
And the innocent laugh at them:

19

Видят праведные останки злобных и радуются, смеются невинные и говорят:

20

‘Surely our [d]adversaries are cut down,
And the fire consumes their remnant.’

20

"Верно, наши враги уничтожены, огонь пожирает их богатство. "

21

“Now acquaint yourself with Him, and be at peace;
Thereby good will come to you.

21

Покорись Господу, и будь с Ним в мире, и тогда благоденствие придёт к тебе.

22

Receive, please, instruction from His mouth,
And lay up His words in your heart.

22

Прими повеления из Его уст и положи слова Его в сердце.

23

If you return to the Almighty, you will be built up;
You will remove iniquity far from your tents.

23

Если вернешься ко Всемогущему, то возродишься. Если отбросишь грех от шатра твоего

24

Then you will lay your gold in the dust,
And the gold of Ophir among the stones of the brooks.

24

и пылью будешь золото своё считать, а золото Офирское — обломками потоков,

25

Yes, the Almighty will be your [e]gold
And your precious silver;

25

тогда Всемогущий станет твоим золотом, самым чистым серебром для тебя.

26

For then you will have your delight in the Almighty,
And lift up your face to God.

26

Тогда ты найдёшь наслаждение во Всемогущем и поднимешь лицо своё к Богу.

27

You will make your prayer to Him,
He will hear you,
And you will pay your vows.

27

Ты будешь Ему молиться, и Он услышит тебя, и все свои обеты ты исполнишь.

28

You will also declare a thing,
And it will be established for you;
So light will shine on your ways.

28

Что ты задумаешь, всё сбудется, и будущий твой путь весь светом озарён.

29

When they cast you down, and you say, ‘Exaltation will come!’
Then He will save the humble person.

29

Ты возвысишь тех, кто пал, и ты спасёшь смиренных.

30

He will even deliver one who is not innocent;
Yes, he will be delivered by the purity of your hands.”

30

Ты поможешь тем, кто совершал грехи, молитвою твоей, и они будут спасены твоею чистотою!"
