New King James Version

New American Standard Bible

  • Bildad: How Can Man Be Righteous?

Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said:
  • Bildad Says Man Is Inferior

    Then Bildad the Shuhite answered,
  • “Dominion and fear belong to Him;
He makes peace in His high places.
  • “Dominion and awe belong to Him
Who establishes peace in His heights.
  • [a]Is there any number to His armies?
Upon whom does His light not rise?
  • “Is there any number to His troops?
And upon whom does His light not rise?
  • How then can man be righteous before God?
Or how can he be pure who is born of a woman?
  • “How then can a man be just with God?
Or how can he be clean who is born of woman?
  • If even the moon does not shine,
And the stars are not pure in His sight,
  • “If even the moon has no brightness
And the stars are not pure in His sight,
  • How much less man, who is a maggot,
And a son of man, who is a worm?”
  • How much less man, that maggot,
And the son of man, that worm!”
