New King James Version

New Living Translation

  • Bildad: How Can Man Be Righteous?

    Then Bildad the Shuhite answered and said:
  • Bildad’s Third Response to Job

    Then Bildad the Shuhite replied:
  • “Dominion and fear belong to Him;
    He makes peace in His high places.
  • “God is powerful and dreadful.
    He enforces peace in the heavens.
  • [a]Is there any number to His armies?
    Upon whom does His light not rise?
  • Who is able to count his heavenly army?
    Doesn’t his light shine on all the earth?
  • How then can man be righteous before God?
    Or how can he be pure who is born of a woman?
  • How can a mortal be innocent before God?
    Can anyone born of a woman be pure?
  • If even the moon does not shine,
    And the stars are not pure in His sight,
  • God is more glorious than the moon;
    he shines brighter than the stars.
  • How much less man, who is a maggot,
    And a son of man, who is a worm?”
  • In comparison, people are maggots;
    we mortals are mere worms.”
