Elihu Proclaims God’s Goodness

Elihu also proceeded and said:

1

Продовжуючи далі, Еліус сказав:

“Bear with me a little, and I will show you
That there are yet words to speak on God’s behalf.

2

Потерпи мені ще трохи, щоб я тебе повчив, бо в мене є ще мова.

3

I will fetch my knowledge from afar;
I will ascribe righteousness to my Maker.

3

Почавши здалека свої міркування, моїми ж ділами скажу праведне,

4

For truly my words are not false;
One who is perfect in knowledge is with you.

4

по правді, а не слова неправедні. Ти неправедно розумієш!

5

“Behold, God is mighty, but despises no one;
He is mighty in strength [a]of understanding.

Зрозумій же, що Господь не відкине невинного. Сильний міццю серця,

6

He does not preserve the life of the wicked,
But gives justice to the oppressed.

не залишить безбожних живими, а бідним дасть суд.

7

He does not withdraw His eyes from the righteous;
But they are on the throne with kings,
For He has seated them forever,
And they are exalted.

Він не забере Своїх очей від праведного. І вони будуть із царями на престолі, і Він їх посадить для перемоги, і вони будуть звеличені.

8

And if they are bound in [b]fetters,
Held in the cords of affliction,

8

І якщо будуть зв’язані в колодках, і будуть їх держати в кайданах бідноти,

9

Then He tells them their work and their transgressions —
That they have acted [c]defiantly.

то Він їм сповістить їхні вчинки і їхні провини, бо вони стануть сильними.

10

He also opens their ear to [d]instruction,
And commands that they turn from iniquity.

10

Але праведного Він вислухає. І Він сказав, що вони відвернуться від неправедності.

11

If they obey and serve Him,
They shall spend their days in prosperity,
And their years in pleasures.

11

Якщо почують і служитимуть, то Він завершить їхні дні в добрі, а їхні роки — у славі.

12

But if they do not obey,
They shall perish by the sword,
And they shall die [e]without knowledge.

А безбожні не врятуються, тому що вони не бажають побачити Господа і тому що, будучи застереженими, вони залишалися неслухняними.

13

“But the hypocrites in heart store up wrath;
They do not cry for help when He binds them.

13

А лицеміри серцем викличуть гнів. Вони не кричатимуть, тому що Він їх зв’язав.

14

They[f] die in youth,
And their life ends among the [g]perverted persons.

14

Отже, нехай помре в молодості їхня душа, а їхнє життя нехай уражене буде ангелами,

15

He delivers the poor in their affliction,
And opens their ears in oppression.

15

тому що вони завдали смутку немічному і слабкому. А для лагідних Він видасть суд.

16

“Indeed He would have brought you out of dire distress,
Into a broad place where there is no restraint;
And what is set on your table would be full of richness.

16

І крім того Він виманив тебе з пащі ворога. Безодня — потік під нею. А твій стіл зійшов, повний жиру.

17

But you are filled with the judgment due the wicked;
Judgment and justice take hold of you.

17

У праведних не забракне суду,

18

Because there is wrath, beware lest He take you away with one blow;
For a large ransom would not help you avoid it.

18

а на безбожних буде гнів через безбожність дарів, які приймали за неправедність.

19

Will your riches,
Or all the mighty forces,
Keep you from distress?

19

Хай розум тебе добровільно не відверне від благання слабких, які є в скруті, і всіх, хто володіє силою.

20

Do not desire the night,
When people are cut off in their place.

20

Не розтягуй ночі, щоб народ не пішов проти них.

21

Take heed, do not turn to iniquity,
For you have chosen this rather than affliction.

21

Але остерігайся, не чини зла. Бо в цьому ти визволився від бідноти.

22

“Behold, God is exalted by His power;
Who teaches like Him?

22

Ось Сильний буде сильним Своєю могутністю. Бо хто є такий сильний, як Він?

23

Who has assigned Him His way,
Or who has said, ‘You have done wrong’?

23

Хто ж є той, який досліджує Його діяння? Чи хто той, який сказав: Ти вчинив неправедно?

24

Elihu Proclaims God’s Majesty

“Remember to magnify His work,
Of which men have sung.

24

Згадай, що Його діла великі, понад ті, які звершили люди.

25

Everyone has seen it;
Man looks on it from afar.

25

Кожний чоловік у собі побачив, наскільки є вразливими смертні люди.

26

“Behold, God is great, and we do not know Him;
Nor can the number of His years be discovered.

26

Ось Сильний — великий, і ми не збагнемо. І число Його років безконечне.

27

For He draws up drops of water,
Which distill as rain from the mist,

27

Пораховані ж у Нього краплі дощу, і виллються дощем у хмару.

28

Which the clouds drop down
And pour abundantly on man.

28

Потечуть старожитності, а хмара дала тінь на незчисленних смертних людей. 28a Він встановив час худобі, вони знають розпорядок, коли лягати. 28b Чи не дивується твій розум усім цим, чи не міняється твоє серце в тілі?

29

Indeed, can anyone understand the spreading of clouds,
The thunder from His canopy?

29

І якщо збагнеш довжину хмари, пропорції Його намету,

30

Look, He scatters His light upon it,
And covers the depths of the sea.

30

ось Він простягає над ним серпанок, — і покрив дно моря.

31

For by these He judges the peoples;
He gives food in abundance.

31

Бо ними Він судитиме народи, дасть їжу сильному.
