God’s Works and Wisdom

“At this also my heart trembles,
And leaps from its place.

1

А від сього тремтить серце в менї й зрушилось із місця свого.

2

Hear attentively the thunder of His voice,
And the rumbling that comes from His mouth.

Слухайте, слухайте грому; се голос, що виходить із уст його.

3

He sends it forth under the whole heaven,
His [a]lightning to the ends of the earth.

По під усїм небом реве він, блиск його — на всю землю.

4

After it a voice roars;
He thunders with His majestic voice,
And He does not restrain them when His voice is heard.

4

Ззаду його гуде голос; грімить він голосом величі своєї й не з'упиняє його, коли голос його почуто.

5

God thunders marvelously with His voice;
He does great things which we cannot comprehend.

Гласом своїм грімить Бог предивно, творить дїла великі, нам недослїдимі.

6

For He says to the snow, ‘Fall on the earth’;
Likewise to the [b]gentle rain and the heavy rain of His strength.

Він каже снїгові: Окрий землю! Ливень і дощ в його волї.

7

He seals the hand of every man,
That all men may know His work.

Людям печатає руки**, щоб усї взнали дїло його.

8

The beasts go into dens,
And remain in their lairs.

8

Зьвір утїкає в свій сховок і держиться в своїх леговищах.

9

From the chamber of the south comes the whirlwind,
And cold from the scattering winds of the north.

9

Буря приходить з полудня, з півночі ж — студень.

10

By the breath of God ice is given,
And the broad waters are frozen.

10

Від подиху Божого стає лід, і поверхність води стинається.

11

Also with moisture He saturates the thick clouds;
He scatters His [c]bright clouds.

Вогкостю наповняє він хмяри, а облаки сиплють сьвітло його,

12

And they swirl about, being turned by His guidance,
That they may do whatever He commands them
On the face of [d]the whole earth.

І пускаються вони в напрямі намірів його, щоб виконати те, що він приказує їм, на поверхнї заселеної землї,

13

He causes it to come,
Whether for [e]correction,
Or for His land,
Or for mercy.

13

Він велить їм ійти або на скараннє, або на благословеннє, або на помилуваннє.

14

“Listen to this, O Job;
Stand still and consider the wondrous works of God.

Слухай же сього, Иове; стій і роздумуй чудні дїла Божі.

15

Do you know when God [f]dispatches them,
And causes the light of His cloud to shine?

15

Знаєш же, як він послугуєсь ними, та як із хмари сьвітло викликає?

16

Do you know how the clouds are balanced,
Those wondrous works of Him who is perfect in knowledge?

Розумієш же рівновагу хмар, се чудне дїло (Бога) найзвершеннїйшого в знаннї?

17

Why are your garments hot,
When He quiets the earth by the south wind?

Як нагрівається одїж твоя, коли він спокійно дихне від полудня?

18

With Him, have you spread out the skies,
Strong as a cast metal mirror?

18

Або може то ти напинав з ним небеса, тверді, як дзеркало лите?

19

“Teach us what we should say to Him,
For we can prepare nothing because of the darkness.

19

Навчи нас, що сказати йому? Ми бо в тій темряві нїчого поняти не можем.

20

Should He be told that I wish to speak?
If a man were to speak, surely he would be swallowed up.

20

Чи буде йому звіщено, що я говорю? Хиба ж сказав хто, що сказане доходить до його?

21

Even now men cannot look at the light when it is bright in the skies,
When the wind has passed and cleared them.

21

Тепер не видко ясного сьвітла зпоза хмар, але повіє вітер, і проясниться.

22

He comes from the north as golden splendor;
With God is awesome majesty.

22

Сьвітла погода приходить із півночі, а кругом Бога страшна величність.

23

As for the Almighty, we cannot find Him;
He is excellent in power,
In judgment and abundant justice;
He does not oppress.

23

Вседержитель! Ми розумом дослїдити не можем його. Він великий силою, судом і повнотою правосуду. Він же нїкого й не пригнїтає.

24

Therefore men fear Him;
He shows no partiality to any who are wise of heart.”

24

То нехай впокоряються перед ним люде, й нехай дрожать перед ним усї, що в серцї мають себе за мудрих!
