A Song of Confidence in God’s Triumph over Evil

Why do You stand afar off, O Lord?
Why do You hide in times of trouble?

1

Чому, Господи, стоїш оддалеки, ховаєшся у час тїсноти?

The wicked in his pride [a]persecutes the poor;
Let them be caught in the plots which they have devised.

Бутою своєю лякає безбожник бідолашного; зловляться вони у підступах, що придумали їх.

3

For the wicked boasts of his heart’s desire;
[b]He blesses the greedy and renounces the Lord.

Бо чваниться безбожник ласощами душі своєї; і благословляє чоловіка захланного, він зневажає Господа.

4

The wicked in his proud countenance does not seek God;
[c]God is in none of his thoughts.

В гордостї каже безбожник: Бог не буде слїдити; в него усе думка: нема Бога!

5

His ways [d]are always prospering;
Your judgments are far above, out of his sight;
As for all his enemies, he sneers at them.

Всякого часу стелиться йому дорога; суди твої далеко від него; всїх ворогів своїх він сьміхом збуває.

He has said in his heart, “I shall not be moved;
I shall never be in adversity.”

Каже він в серцї своїм: не подамся; з роду в рід не буде для мене лиха.

His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and oppression;
Under his tongue is trouble and iniquity.

Уста його повні проклону, зради і знущання; під його язиком мука і погибель.

8

He sits in the lurking places of the villages;
In the secret places he murders the innocent;
His eyes are secretly fixed on the helpless.

Він ійде на засїдки край осель; у сховисках вбиває він невинного; він пасе очима за нещасним,

He lies in wait secretly, as a lion in his den;
He lies in wait to catch the poor;
He catches the poor when he draws him into his net.

Чигає по закутках, як лев в гущавинї; чигає, щоб нужденного запопасти; хапає нещасного, й тягне в сїти свої.

10

So [e]he crouches, he lies low,
That the helpless may fall by his [f]strength.

Він припадає ниць до землї, притаюється, і нещасні гинуть від когтїв його.

He has said in his heart,
“God has forgotten;
He hides His face;
He will never see.”

Говорить в серцї своїм: Бог забуває, закриває лице своє, не побачить нїколи!

12

Arise, O Lord!
O God, lift up Your hand!
Do not forget the humble.

Встань, Господи Боже, піднеси руку твою, не забудь нужденних!

Why do the wicked renounce God?
He has said in his heart,
“You will not require an account.”

Чому зневажає Бога безбожник, кажучи в серцї своїм: ти не будеш доходити?

14

But You have seen, for You observe trouble and grief,
To repay it by Your hand.
The helpless commits[g] himself to You;
You are the helper of the fatherless.

14

Ти бачив, бо ти поглядаєш на тїсноту й муку, щоб віддати рукою твоєю; на тебе вповає нещасний, ти єси поміч сиротинї.

15

Break the arm of the wicked and the evil man;
Seek out his wickedness until You find none.

Переломи руку безбожникові, а за ледачими вчинками злюки слїди, аж поки вже нїчого не знайдеш.

16

The Lord is King forever and ever;
The nations have perished out of His land.

16

Господь царь на віки вічні; народи щезають із землї його.

17

Lord, You have heard the desire of the humble;
You will prepare their heart;
You will cause Your ear to hear,

Господи! Ти почув бажання смиренних; покріпив серце їх, і прихилив ухо твоє,

18

To [h]do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed,
That the man of the earth may [i]oppress no more.

18

Щоб судити правду сиротинї і пригнобленому, щоб чоловік, що із землї взявся, не лякав більше.
