New King James Version

Darby Bible Translation

  • Thanksgiving to the Lord for His Great Works of Deliverance

    Oh, give thanks to the Lord, for He is good!
    For His [a]mercy endures forever.
  • His Loving Kindness Endures Forever

    Give ye thanks unto Jehovah; for he is good; for his loving-kindness [endureth] for ever.
  • Let the redeemed of the Lord say so,
    Whom He has redeemed from the hand of the enemy,
  • Let the redeemed of Jehovah say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the oppressor,
  • And gathered out of the lands,
    From the east and from the west,
    From the north and from the south.
  • And gathered out of the countries, from the east and from the west, from the north and from the sea.
  • They wandered in the wilderness in a desolate way;
    They found no city to dwell in.
  • They wandered in the wilderness in a desert way, they found no city of habitation;
  • Hungry and thirsty,
    Their soul fainted in them.
  • Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them:
  • Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
    And He delivered them out of their distresses.
  • Then they cried unto Jehovah in their trouble, [and] he delivered them out of their distresses,
  • And He led them forth by the right way,
    That they might go to a city for a dwelling place.
  • And he led them forth by a right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.
  • Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness,
    And for His wonderful works to the children of men!
  • Let them give thanks unto Jehovah for his loving-kindness, and for his wondrous works to the children of men;
  • For He satisfies the longing soul,
    And fills the hungry soul with goodness.
  • For he hath satisfied the longing soul and filled the hungry soul with good.
  • Those who sat in darkness and in the shadow of death,
    Bound[b] in affliction and irons —
  • Such as inhabit darkness and the shadow of death, bound in affliction and iron,
  • Because they rebelled against the words of God,
    And [c]despised the counsel of the Most High,
  • Because they had rebelled against the words of God, and had despised the counsel of the Most High; ...
  • Therefore He brought down their heart with labor;
    They fell down, and there was none to help.
  • And he bowed down their heart with labour; they stumbled, and there was none to help:
  • Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
    And He saved them out of their distresses.
  • Then they cried unto Jehovah in their trouble, [and] he saved them out of their distresses;
  • He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death,
    And broke their chains in pieces.
  • He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and broke their bands in sunder.
  • Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness,
    And for His wonderful works to the children of men!
  • Let them give thanks unto Jehovah for his loving-kindness, and for his wondrous works to the children of men;
  • For He has broken the gates of bronze,
    And cut the bars of iron in two.
  • For he hath broken the gates of bronze, and cut asunder the bars of iron.
  • Fools, because of their transgression,
    And because of their iniquities, were afflicted.
  • Fools, because of their way of transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted;
  • Their soul abhorred all manner of food,
    And they drew near to the gates of death.
  • Their soul abhorreth all manner of food, and they draw near unto the gates of death:
  • Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
    And He saved them out of their distresses.
  • Then they cry unto Jehovah in their trouble, [and] he saveth them out of their distresses;
  • He sent His word and healed them,
    And delivered them from their destructions.
  • He sendeth his word, and healeth them, and delivereth them from their destructions.
  • Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness,
    And for His wonderful works to the children of men!
  • Let them give thanks unto Jehovah for his loving-kindness, and for his wondrous works to the children of men,
  • Let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving,
    And declare His works with [d]rejoicing.
  • And let them offer the sacrifices of thanksgiving, and declare his works in joyful song.
  • Those who go down to the sea in ships,
    Who do business on great waters,
  • They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters,
  • They see the works of the Lord,
    And His wonders in the deep.
  • These see the works of Jehovah, and his wonders in the deep.
  • For He commands and raises the stormy wind,
    Which lifts up the waves of the sea.
  • For he speaketh, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof:
  • They mount up to the heavens,
    They go down again to the depths;
    Their soul melts because of trouble.
  • They mount up to the heavens, they go down to the depths; their soul is melted because of trouble;
  • They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man,
    And [e]are at their wits’ end.
  • They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and they are at their wits' end:
  • Then they cry out to the Lord in their trouble,
    And He brings them out of their distresses.
  • Then they cry unto Jehovah in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses;
  • He calms the storm,
    So that its waves are still.
  • He maketh the storm a calm, and the waves thereof are still:
  • Then they are glad because they are quiet;
    So He guides them to their desired haven.
  • And they rejoice because they are quiet; and he bringeth them unto their desired haven.
  • Oh, that men would give thanks to the Lord for His goodness,
    And for His wonderful works to the children of men!
  • Let them give thanks unto Jehovah for his loving-kindness, and for his wondrous works to the children of men;
  • Let them exalt Him also in the assembly of the people,
    And praise Him in the company of the elders.
  • Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the session of the elders.
  • He turns rivers into a wilderness,
    And the watersprings into dry ground;
  • He maketh rivers into a wilderness, and water-springs into dry ground;
  • A fruitful land into [f]barrenness,
    For the wickedness of those who dwell in it.
  • A fruitful land into a plain of salt, for the wickedness of them that dwell therein.
  • He turns a wilderness into pools of water,
    And dry land into watersprings.
  • He maketh the wilderness into a pool of water, and the dry land into water-springs;
  • There He makes the hungry dwell,
    That they may establish a city for a dwelling place,
  • And there he maketh the hungry to dwell, and they establish a city of habitation;
  • And sow fields and plant vineyards,
    That they may yield a fruitful harvest.
  • And sow fields, and plant vineyards, which yield fruits of increase;
  • He also blesses them, and they multiply greatly;
    And He does not let their cattle decrease.
  • And he blesseth them, so that they are multiplied greatly; and he suffereth not their cattle to decrease.
  • When they are diminished and brought low
    Through oppression, affliction, and sorrow,
  • And they are diminished and brought low, through oppression, adversity, and sorrow:
  • He pours contempt on princes,
    And causes them to wander in the wilderness where there is no way;
  • He poureth contempt upon nobles, and causeth them to wander in a pathless waste;
  • Yet He sets the poor on high, far from affliction,
    And makes their families like a flock.
  • But he secureth the needy one on high from affliction, and maketh [him] families like flocks.
  • The righteous see it and rejoice,
    And all iniquity stops its mouth.
  • The upright shall see it, and rejoice; and all unrighteousness shall stop its mouth.
  • Whoever is wise will observe these things,
    And they will understand the lovingkindness of the Lord.
  • Whoso is wise, let him observe these things, and let them understand the loving-kindnesses of Jehovah.
