New King James Version

Darby Bible Translation

  • Yearning for God in the Midst of Distresses

    To the Chief Musician. A [a]Contemplation of the sons of Korah.

    As the deer [b]pants for the water brooks,
    So pants my soul for You, O God.
  • As the Deer Pants for the Water

    {To the chief Musician. An instruction; of the sons of Korah.} As the hart panteth after the water-brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.
  • My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
    When shall I come and [c]appear before God?
  • My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?
  • My tears have been my food day and night,
    While they continually say to me,
    “Where is your God?”
  • My tears have been my bread day and night, while they say unto me all the day, Where is thy God?
  • When I remember these things,
    I pour out my soul within me.
    For I used to go with the multitude;
    I went with them to the house of God,
    With the voice of joy and praise,
    With a multitude that kept a pilgrim feast.
  • These things I remember and have poured out my soul within me: how I passed along with the multitude, how I went on with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, a festive multitude.
  • Why are you [d]cast down, O my soul?
    And why are you disquieted within me?
    Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him
    [e]For the help of His countenance.
  • Why art thou cast down, my soul, and art disquieted in me? hope in God; for I shall yet praise him, [for] the health of his countenance.
  • [f]O my God, my soul is cast down within me;
    Therefore I will remember You from the land of the Jordan,
    And from the heights of Hermon,
    From [g]the Hill Mizar.
  • My God, my soul is cast down within me; therefore do I remember thee from the land of the Jordan, and the Hermons, from mount Mizar.
  • Deep calls unto deep at the noise of Your waterfalls;
    All Your waves and billows have gone over me.
  • Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy cataracts; all thy breakers and thy billows are gone over me.
  • The Lord will command His lovingkindness in the daytime,
    And in the night His song shall be with me —
    A prayer to the God of my life.
  • In the day-time will Jehovah command his loving-kindness, and in the night his song shall be with me, a prayer unto the God of my life.
  • I will say to God my Rock,
    “Why have You forgotten me?
    Why do I go mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?”
  • I will say unto God my rock, Why hast thou forgotten me? why go I mourning because of the oppression of the enemy?
  • As with a [h]breaking of my bones,
    My enemies [i]reproach me,
    While they say to me all day long,
    “Where is your God?”
  • As with a crushing in my bones mine adversaries reproach me, while they say unto me all the day, Where is thy God?
  • Why are you cast down, O my soul?
    And why are you disquieted within me?
    Hope in God;
    For I shall yet praise Him,
    The [j]help of my countenance and my God.
  • Why art thou cast down, my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God; for I shall yet praise him, [who is] the health of my countenance, and my God.
