New King James Version

Darby Bible Translation

  • The End of the Wicked and the Peace of the Godly

    To the Chief Musician. A [a]Contemplation of David when Doeg the Edomite went and told Saul, and said to him, “David has gone to the house of Ahimelech.”

    Why do you boast in evil, O mighty man?
    The goodness of God endures continually.
  • Why Do You Boast of Mischief?

    {To the chief Musician: an instruction. Of David; when Doeg the Edomite came and told Saul, and said unto him, David came to the house of Ahimelech.} Why boastest thou thyself in evil, thou mighty man? The loving-kindness of God [abideth] continually.
  • Your tongue devises destruction,
    Like a sharp razor, working deceitfully.
  • Thy tongue deviseth mischievous things, like a sharp razor, practising deceit.
  • You love evil more than good,
    Lying rather than speaking righteousness. Selah
  • Thou hast loved evil rather than good, lying rather than to speak righteousness. Selah.
  • You love all devouring words,
    You deceitful tongue.
  • Thou hast loved all devouring words, O deceitful tongue!
  • God shall likewise destroy you forever;
    He shall take you away, and pluck you out of your dwelling place,
    And uproot you from the land of the living. Selah
  • God shall likewise destroy thee for ever; he shall take thee away, and pluck thee out of [thy] tent, and root thee out of the land of the living. Selah.
  • The righteous also shall see and fear,
    And shall laugh at him, saying,
  • The righteous also shall see, and fear, and shall laugh at him, [saying,]
  • “Here is the man who did not make God his strength,
    But trusted in the abundance of his riches,
    And strengthened himself in his [b]wickedness.”
  • Behold the man that made not God his strength, but put confidence in the abundance of his riches, [and] strengthened himself in his avarice.
  • But I am like a green olive tree in the house of God;
    I trust in the mercy of God forever and ever.
  • But as for me, I am like a green olive-tree in the house of God: I will confide in the loving-kindness of God for ever and ever.
  • I will praise You forever,
    Because You have done it;
    And in the presence of Your saints
    I will wait on Your name, for it [c]is good.
  • I will praise thee for ever, because thou hast done [it]; and I will wait on thy name, before thy godly ones, for it is good.
