New King James Version

Darby Bible Translation

  • Prayer for Relief from Tormentors

    To the Chief Musician. Set to [a]“The Silent Dove in Distant Lands.” A Michtam of David when the Philistines captured him in Gath.

    Be merciful to me, O God, for man would swallow me up;
    Fighting all day he oppresses me.
  • Be Merciful to Me, God

    {To the chief Musician. On Jonathelem-rechokim. Of David. Michtam; when the Philistines took him in Gath.} Be gracious unto me, O God; for man would swallow me up: all the day long fighting he oppresseth me.
  • My enemies would hound me all day,
    For there are many who fight against me, O Most High.
  • Mine enemies would swallow [me] up all the day long; for they are many that fight against me haughtily.
  • Whenever I am afraid,
    I will trust in You.
  • In the day that I am afraid, I will confide in thee.
  • In God (I will praise His word),
    In God I have put my trust;
    I will not fear.
    What can flesh do to me?
  • In God will I praise his word, in God I put my confidence: I will not fear; what can flesh do unto me?
  • All day they twist my words;
    All their thoughts are against me for evil.
  • All the day long they wrest my words; all their thoughts are against me for evil.
  • They gather together,
    They hide, they mark my steps,
    When they lie in wait for my life.
  • They gather themselves together, they hide themselves; they mark my steps, because they wait for my soul.
  • Shall they escape by iniquity?
    In anger cast down the peoples, O God!
  • Shall they escape by iniquity? In anger cast down the peoples, O God.
  • You number my wanderings;
    Put my tears into Your bottle;
    Are they not in Your book?
  • *Thou* countest my wanderings; put my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book?
  • When I cry out to You,
    Then my enemies will turn back;
    This I know, because God is for me.
  • Then shall mine enemies return backward in the day when I call: this I know, for God is for me.
  • In God (I will praise His word),
    In the Lord (I will praise His word),
  • In God will I praise [his] word; in Jehovah will I praise [his] word.
  • In God I have put my trust;
    I will not be afraid.
    What can man do to me?
  • In God have I put my confidence: I will not fear; what can man do unto me?
  • Vows made to You are binding upon me, O God;
    I will render praises to You,
  • Thy vows are upon me, O God: I will render thanks unto thee.
  • For You have delivered my soul from death.
    Have You not kept my feet from falling,
    That I may walk before God
    In the light of the living?
  • For thou hast delivered my soul from death; [wilt thou] not [keep] my feet from falling, that I may walk before God in the light of the living?
