New King James Version

English Standard Version

  • Oppressed by the Wicked but Rejoicing in the Lord

    To the Chief Musician. A Psalm of David.

    Hear my voice, O God, in my [a]meditation;
    Preserve my life from fear of the enemy.
  • Hide Me from the Wicked

    To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.

    Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint;
    preserve my life from dread of the enemy.
  • Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked,
    From the rebellion of the workers of iniquity,
  • Hide me from the secret plots of the wicked,
    from the throng of evildoers,
  • Who sharpen their tongue like a sword,
    And bend their bows to shoot their arrows — bitter words,
  • who whet their tongues like swords,
    who aim bitter words like arrows,
  • That they may shoot in secret at the blameless;
    Suddenly they shoot at him and do not fear.
  • shooting from ambush at the blameless,
    shooting at him suddenly and without fear.
  • They encourage themselves in an evil matter;
    They talk of laying snares secretly;
    They say, “Who will see them?”
  • They hold fast to their evil purpose;
    they talk of laying snares secretly,
    thinking, “Who can see them?”
  • They devise iniquities:
    “We have perfected a shrewd scheme.”
    Both the inward thought and the heart of man are deep.
  • They search out injustice,
    saying, “We have accomplished a diligent search.”
    For the inward mind and heart of a man are deep.
  • But God shall shoot at them with an arrow;
    Suddenly they shall be wounded.
  • But God shoots his arrow at them;
    they are wounded suddenly.
  • So He will make them stumble over their own tongue;
    All who see them shall flee away.
  • They are brought to ruin, with their own tongues turned against them;
    all who see them will wag their heads.
  • All men shall fear,
    And shall declare the work of God;
    For they shall wisely consider His doing.
  • Then all mankind fears;
    they tell what God has brought about
    and ponder what he has done.
  • The righteous shall be glad in the Lord, and trust in Him.
    And all the upright in heart shall glory.
  • Let the righteous one rejoice in the Lord
    and take refuge in him!
    Let all the upright in heart exult!
