New King James Version

New Living Translation

  • Prayer for Israel’s Restoration

    To the Chief Musician. Set to [a]“The Lilies.” A [b]Testimony of Asaph. A Psalm.

    Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel,
    You who lead Joseph like a flock;
    You who dwell between the cherubim, shine forth!
  • For the choir director: A psalm of Asaph, to be sung to the tune “Lilies of the Covenant.”

    Please listen, O Shepherd of Israel,
    you who lead Joseph’s descendants like a flock.
    O God, enthroned above the cherubim,
    display your radiant glory
  • Before Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh,
    Stir up Your strength,
    And come and save us!
  • to Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh.
    Show us your mighty power.
    Come to rescue us!
  • Restore us, O God;
    Cause Your face to shine,
    And we shall be saved!
  • Turn us again to yourself, O God.
    Make your face shine down upon us.
    Only then will we be saved.
  • O Lord God of hosts,
    How long will You be angry
    Against the prayer of Your people?
  • O LORD God of Heaven’s Armies,
    how long will you be angry with our prayers?
  • You have fed them with the bread of tears,
    And given them tears to drink in great measure.
  • You have fed us with sorrow
    and made us drink tears by the bucketful.
  • You have made us a strife to our neighbors,
    And our enemies laugh among themselves.
  • You have made us the scorna of neighboring nations.
    Our enemies treat us as a joke.
  • Restore us, O God of hosts;
    Cause Your face to shine,
    And we shall be saved!
  • Turn us again to yourself, O God of Heaven’s Armies.
    Make your face shine down upon us.
    Only then will we be saved.
  • You have brought a vine out of Egypt;
    You have cast out the [c]nations, and planted it.
  • You brought us from Egypt like a grapevine;
    you drove away the pagan nations and transplanted us into your land.
  • You prepared room for it,
    And caused it to take deep root,
    And it filled the land.
  • You cleared the ground for us,
    and we took root and filled the land.
  • The hills were covered with its shadow,
    And the [d]mighty cedars with its boughs.
  • Our shade covered the mountains;
    our branches covered the mighty cedars.
  • She sent out her boughs to [e]the Sea,
    And her branches to [f]the River.
  • We spread our branches west to the Mediterranean Sea;
    our shoots spread east to the Euphrates River.b
  • Why have You broken down her [g]hedges,
    So that all who pass by the way pluck her fruit?
  • But now, why have you broken down our walls
    so that all who pass by may steal our fruit?
  • The boar out of the woods uproots it,
    And the wild beast of the field devours it.
  • The wild boar from the forest devours it,
    and the wild animals feed on it.
  • Return, we beseech You, O God of hosts;
    Look down from heaven and see,
    And visit this vine
  • Come back, we beg you, O God of Heaven’s Armies.
    Look down from heaven and see our plight.
    Take care of this grapevine
  • And the vineyard which Your right hand has planted,
    And the branch that You made strong for Yourself.
  • that you yourself have planted,
    this son you have raised for yourself.
  • It is burned with fire, it is cut down;
    They perish at the rebuke of Your countenance.
  • For we are chopped up and burned by our enemies.
    May they perish at the sight of your frown.
  • Let Your hand be upon the man of Your right hand,
    Upon the son of man whom You made strong for Yourself.
  • Strengthen the man you love,
    the son of your choice.
  • Then we will not turn back from You;
    Revive us, and we will call upon Your name.
  • Then we will never abandon you again.
    Revive us so we can call on your name once more.
  • Restore us, O Lord God of hosts;
    Cause Your face to shine,
    And we shall be saved!
  • Turn us again to yourself, O LORD God of Heaven’s Armies.
    Make your face shine down upon us.
    Only then will we be saved.
