The Command to Leave Sinai

Then the Lord said to Moses, “Depart and go up from here, you and the people whom you have brought out of the land of Egypt, to the land of which I swore to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, saying, ‘To your descendants I will give it.’

І говорив Господь до Мойсея: „Іди, вийди звідси ти та той народ, що ти вивів його з єгипетського кра́ю до того Краю, що Я присяг був його Авраамові, Ісакові та Якову, говорячи: Наща́дкам твоїм дам його,

And I will send My Angel before you, and I will drive out the Canaanite and the Amorite and the Hittite and the Perizzite and the Hivite and the Jebusite.

і пошлю перед лицем твоїм Ангола, і попроганяю ханаанеянина, амореянина, і хіттеянина, і періззеянина, хіввеянина, і євусеянина, —

3

Go up to a land flowing with milk and honey; for I will not go up in your midst, lest I [a]consume you on the way, for you are a stiff-necked[b] people.”

до кра́ю, що тече молоком та медом, бо Я не піду́ серед тебе, — бо ти народ твердошиїй, — щоб Я не вигубив тебе в дорозі“.

And when the people heard this bad news, they mourned, and no one put on his ornaments.

І почув народ ту лиху вістку, та й засмутився, і ніхто не поклав на себе своєї оздо́би.

For the Lord had said to Moses, “Say to the children of Israel, ‘You are a stiff-necked people. I could come up into your midst in one moment and consume you. Now therefore, take off your [c]ornaments, that I may know what to do to you.’ ”

Бо промовив Господь до Мойсея: „Скажи Ізраїлевим синам: Ви народ твердошиїй, — якщо одну хвилину піду́ серед тебе, то ви́гублю тебе! Тож тепер здійми оздобу свою з себе, — Я знатиму, що вчиню́ тобі“.

So the children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments by Mount Horeb.

І поздіймали Ізраїлеві сини свої оздоби під горою Хори́в.

Moses Meets with the Lord

Moses took his tent and pitched it outside the camp, far from the camp, and called it the tabernacle of meeting. And it came to pass that everyone who sought the Lord went out to the tabernacle of meeting which was outside the camp.

А Мойсей узяв наме́та, та й нап'я́в його поза табо́ром, далеко від табо́ру, і назвав його: скинія заповіту. І бувало, — кожен, хто шукав Господа, входив до скинії заповіту, що поза табо́ром.

So it was, whenever Moses went out to the tabernacle, that all the people rose, and each man stood at his tent door and watched Moses until he had gone into the tabernacle.

І бувало, коли вихо́див Мойсей до скинії, то підво́дився ввесь народ, і ставали кожен при вході свого намету, і дивилися за Мойсеєм, аж поки він не входив до скинії.

And it came to pass, when Moses entered the tabernacle, that the pillar of cloud descended and stood at the door of the tabernacle, and the Lord talked with Moses.

І бувало, коли входив Мойсей до скинії, то сходив стовп хмари, і ставав при вході скинії, та й говорив Бог із Мойсеєм.

All the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the tabernacle door, and all the people rose and worshiped, each man in his tent door.

І ввесь наро́д бачив стовпа хмари, що стояв при вході скинії. І ввесь народ підво́дився, та й вклонялися, кожен при вході намету свого.

11

So the Lord spoke to Moses face to face, as a man speaks to his friend. And he would return to the camp, but his servant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, did not depart from the tabernacle.

І говорив Господь до Мойсея лице в лице, як говорить хто до друга свого́. І вертався він до табо́ру, а слуга його, юнак Ісус, син Нави́нів, не вихо́див із сере́дини скинії.

12

The Promise of God’s Presence

Then Moses said to the Lord, “See, You say to me, ‘Bring up this people.’ But You have not let me know whom You will send with me. Yet You have said, ‘I know you by name, and you have also found grace in My sight.’

І сказав Мойсей до Господа: „Дивися, — Ти гово́риш мені: Випровади цей наро́д, а Ти не дав мені знати, кого зо мною пошлеш. А Ти сказав був: Я знаю тебе на ім'я́, а також знайшов ти милість в оча́х Моїх.

13

Now therefore, I pray, if I have found grace in Your sight, show me now Your way, that I may know You and that I may find grace in Your sight. And consider that this nation is Your people.”

Тож тепер, коли знайшов я милість в оча́х Твоїх, об'яви ж мені доро́гу Свою, і я пізнаю, я́к знайти милість в очах Твоїх. І побач, бо цей люд — то народ Твій“.

14

And He said, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”

14

А Він відказав: „Сам Я піду́, — і введу́ тебе до відпочинку“.

15

Then he said to Him, “If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here.

15

І сказав він до Нього: „Коли Сам Ти не пі́деш, то не виводь нас ізвідси.

16

For how then will it be known that Your people and I have found grace in Your sight, except You go with us? So we shall be separate, Your people and I, from all the people who are upon the face of the earth.”

16

Бож чим тоді пізна́ється, що знайшов милість в очах Твоїх я та наро́д Твій? Чи ж не тим, що Ти пі́деш із нами? І бу́демо ви́різнені я та народ Твій від кожного народу, що на поверхні землі“.

17

So the Lord said to Moses, “I will also do this thing that you have spoken; for you have found grace in My sight, and I know you by name.”

І промовив Госпо́дь до Мойсея: „Також цю річ, про яку говорив ти, зроблю́, бо ти знайшов милість в оча́х Моїх, і Я знаю на ім'я́ тебе“.

18

And he said, “Please, show me Your glory.”

18

А він відказав: „Покажи мені славу Свою!“

19

Then He said, “I will make all My goodness pass before you, and I will proclaim the name of the Lord before you. I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion.”

19

І Він промовив: „Я переведу́ все добро Своє перед тобою, і покличу Господнім Ім'я́м перед тобою. І Я помилую, до кого милости́вий, і змилосе́рджуся, до кого милосе́рдний“.

20

But He said, “You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live.”

20

І Він промовив: „Ти не зможеш побачити лиця Мого́, — бо люди́на не може побачити Мене — і жити“.

21

And the Lord said, “Here is a place by Me, and you shall stand on the rock.

21

І промовив Господь: „Ось місце при Мені, — і ти станеш на скелі.

22

So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock, and will cover you with My hand while I pass by.

22

І станеться, коли буде переходити слава Моя, то Я вміщу́ Тебе в щілині скелі, і закрию тебе рукою Своєю, аж поки Я перейду́.

23

Then I will take away My hand, and you shall see My back; but My face shall not be seen.”

23

А здійму руку Свою, — і ти побачиш Мене ззаду, а обличчя Моє не буде види́ме“.
