Judgment on Judah and Jerusalem

For behold, the Lord, the Lord of hosts,
Takes away from Jerusalem and from Judah
The[a] stock and the store,
The whole supply of bread and the whole supply of water;

1

Знайте, що Господь сил небесних одніме в Ерусалиму й в Юди всяку підпору, всяку піддержку хлїбову й всяке підкріпленнє водою,

2

The mighty man and the man of war,
The judge and the prophet,
And the diviner and the elder;

2

Хороброго воєводу й воїна, суддю й пророка, віщого й старця,

3

The captain of fifty and the [b]honorable man,
The counselor and the skillful artisan,
And the expert enchanter.

3

Пятьдесятника й князя, й дорадника й умного штукаря й проречистого словом;

4

“I will give children[c] to be their princes,
And [d]babes shall rule over them.

4

А дам їм хлопцїв за старшину, й дїти панувати муть над ними.

5

The people will be oppressed,
Every one by another and every one by his neighbor;
The child will be insolent toward the [e]elder,
And the [f]base toward the honorable.”

І одно одного буде в народї тїснити, — кожний ближнього свого; встане хлопець на старого, дрібний люд — на значних.

6

When a man takes hold of his brother
In the house of his father, saying,
“You have clothing;
You be our ruler,
And let these ruins be under your [g]power,”

І хапати ме за полу брата брат, у родинї батька свого: В тебе є жупан про сьвято, будь над нами князем, — нехай буде сей розпадок під рукою в тебе;

7

In that day he will protest, saying,
“I cannot cure your ills,
For in my house is neither food nor clothing;
Do not make me a ruler of the people.”

А той відкаже, клянучись: Не вмію я гоїти рани; бо й в мене в господї нї хлїба, нї одежі; не робіть мене головою в народї.

8

For Jerusalem stumbled,
And Judah is fallen,
Because their tongue and their doings
Are against the Lord,
To provoke the eyes of His glory.

Ось як підупаде Ерусалим і впаде Юда, через те, що й язик і дїла в їх — проти Господа, й зневажливі в очах слави його.

9

The look on their countenance witnesses against them,
And they declare their sin as Sodom;
They do not hide it.
Woe to their soul!
For they have brought evil upon themselves.

Само їх обличчє сьвідчить проти них, ба й явно таки про гріх свій розповідають, не таять, саме як Содомії; горе душам їх! самі бо на себе зло накликають.

10

“Say to the righteous that it shall be well with them,
For they shall eat the fruit of their doings.

10

Скажіть праведному, що йому благо, бо він споживати ме плоди вчинків своїх;

11

Woe to the wicked! It shall be ill with him,
For the reward of his hands shall be [h]given him.

Горе ж беззаконникові, бо буде йому відплата за дїла рук його.

12

As for My people, children are their oppressors,
And women rule over them.
O My people! Those who lead you [i]cause you to err,
And destroy the way of your paths.”

Гнобителї люду мого — недоростки й жіноцтво правлять ним. Народе мій! ті, що правлять вами, вони вас туманять, вони розкопали дорогу ходи твоєї.

13

Oppression and Luxury Condemned

The Lord stands up to [j]plead,
And stands to judge the people.

13

Но встав Господь на суд — він стоїть, щоб судити народи.

14

The Lord will enter into judgment
With the elders of His people
And His princes:
“For you have [k]eaten up the vineyard;
The plunder of the poor is in your houses.

14

Виступає Господь на суд проти голов люду свого і князїв його: Ви спустошили виноградник; загарбане у бідного — по дворах ваших.

15

What do you mean by crushing My people
And grinding the faces of the poor?”
Says the Lord God of hosts.

15

Яким правом тиснете ви люд мій і топчете вбогих? говорить Господь, Господь сил небесних.

16

Moreover the Lord says:
“Because the daughters of Zion are haughty,
And walk with [l]outstretched necks
And [m]wanton eyes,
Walking and [n]mincing as they go,
Making a jingling with their feet,

І промовив Господь: За те, що дочки Сионські аж надто згордїли; що ходять, витягнувши шию й принаджують поглядами, ходять гордою ходою й побрязкують бляшечками на ногах, —

17

Therefore the Lord will strike with a scab
The crown of the head of the daughters of Zion,
And the Lord will uncover their secret parts.”

За се оголить Господь тїмя в дочок Сионських і обнажить їх Господь з волосся їх;

18

In that day the Lord will take away the finery:
The jingling anklets, the [o]scarves, and the crescents;

18

У той день Господь одійме гарні бляшечки на ногах і ґузички,

19

The pendants, the bracelets, and the veils;

19

Сережки та запинки, й пояси, й судинки з пахощами та чарівницькі висилця,

20

The headdresses, the leg ornaments, and the headbands;
The perfume boxes, the charms,

20

Перстінцї й каблучки під носом,

21

and the rings;
The nose jewels,

21

Верхні намітки й спідню одежу, платинки й гаманцї,

22

the festal apparel, and the mantles;
The outer garments, the purses,

22

Опліччя барвисті й плащики й повязки;

23

and the mirrors;
The fine linen, the turbans, and the robes.

23

Дзеркалця, й сорочки з висону та турбани.

24

And so it shall be:
Instead of a sweet smell there will be a stench;
Instead of a sash, a rope;
Instead of well-set hair, baldness;
Instead of a rich robe, a girding of sackcloth;
And [p]branding instead of beauty.

24

І буде тодї замість принадних пахощів — смердота; замість пояса — мотузка; замість завитого волосся — плїш, і замість широкої обгортки — вузка верітка, а замість краси — пятна.

25

Your men shall fall by the sword,
And your [q]mighty in the war.

25

Мужі твої полягають під мечами, а хоробрі твої — на війнї.

26

Her gates shall lament and mourn,
And she being desolate shall sit on the ground.

26

І будуть зітхати й плакати ворота столицї, вона ж, спустошена, на землї усяде.
