Judgment on Ammon

Against the Ammonites.
Thus says the Lord:
“Has Israel no sons?
Has he no heir?
Why then does [a]Milcom inherit Gad,
And his people dwell in its cities?

1

І прийшли всі володарі сили, Йоанан і Азарія, син Маасея, і весь народ, від малого і аж до великого,

2

Therefore behold, the days are coming,” says the Lord,
“That I will cause to be heard an alarm of war
In Rabbah of the Ammonites;
It shall be a desolate mound,
And her [b]villages shall be burned with fire.
Then Israel shall take possession of his inheritance,” says the Lord.

до пророка Єремії і сказали йому: Нехай упаде наше милосердя перед твоїм обличчям, і помолися до твого Господа Бога за цих, що остались, бо ми залишились нечисленні із численних, як і бачать твої очі.

3

“Wail, O Heshbon, for Ai is plundered!
Cry, you daughters of Rabbah,
Gird yourselves with sackcloth!
Lament and run to and fro by the walls;
For [c]Milcom shall go into captivity
With his priests and his princes together.

І нехай твій Господь Бог сповістить нам дорогу, якою підемо по ній, і слово, яке виконаємо.

4

Why do you boast in the valleys,
[d]Your flowing valley, O backsliding daughter?
Who trusted in her treasures, saying,
‘Who will come against me?’

І сказав їм Єремія: Я почув! Ось я помолюся до нашого Господа Бога за вашими словами і буде, що слово, яке лиш відповість Господь, сповіщу вам, не приховаю слово від вас.

5

Behold, I will bring fear upon you,”
Says the Lord God of hosts,
“From all those who are around you;
You shall be driven out, everyone headlong,
And no one will gather those who wander off.

І вони сказали Єремії: Нехай Господь буде в нас за праведного і вірного свідка, якщо не зробимо згідно з усяким словом, яке лиш тобі Господь пошле до нас.

6

But afterward I will bring back
The captives of the people of Ammon,” says the Lord.

6

І якщо добре, і якщо зле, послухаємося голосу нашого Господа Бога, до Якого ми тебе посилаємо до Нього, щоб нам було краще, бо ми послухаємося голосу нашого Господа Бога.

Judgment on Edom

Against Edom.
Thus says the Lord of hosts:
“Is wisdom no more in Teman?
Has counsel perished from the prudent?
Has their wisdom vanished?

І сталося, що після десяти днів було Господнє слово до Єремії.

8

Flee, turn back, dwell in the depths, O inhabitants of Dedan!
For I will bring the calamity of Esau upon him,
The time that I will punish him.

8

І він закликав Йоанана і володарів сили та весь народ, від малого і аж до великого,

9

If grape-gatherers came to you,
Would they not leave some gleaning grapes?
If thieves by night,
Would they not destroy until they have enough?

9

і сказав їм: Так сказав Господь:

10

But I have made Esau bare;
I have uncovered his secret places,
And he shall not be able to hide himself.
His descendants are plundered,
His brethren and his neighbors,
And he is no more.

10

Якщо ви справді залишатиметесь [1] в цій землі, то збудую вас і не знищу, і вирощу вас, а не виполю. Адже Я спинився від зла, яке Я вам чинив.

11

Leave your fatherless children,
I will preserve them alive;
And let your widows trust in Me.”

11

Не бійтеся обличчя царя Вавилону, якого ви боїтеся його обличчя. Не бійтеся, — говорить Господь, — бо Я є з вами, щоб визволити вас і спасти вас з його руки.

12

For thus says the Lord: “Behold, those whose judgment was not to drink of the cup have assuredly drunk. And are you the one who will altogether go unpunished? You shall not go unpunished, but you shall surely drink of it.

І дам вам милосердя, і помилую вас, і поверну вас у вашу землю.

13

For I have sworn by Myself,” says the Lord, “that Bozrah shall become a desolation, a reproach, a [e]waste, and a curse. And all its cities shall be perpetual [f]wastes.”

13

А якщо ви скажете: Не сидітимемо в цій землі, щоб не послухатися Господнього голосу,

14

I have heard a message from the Lord,
And an ambassador has been sent to the nations:
“Gather together, come against her,
And rise up to battle!

бо ввійдемо до єгипетської землі, і не побачимо війни, і не почуємо голос труби, і не голодуватимемо через хліби, і там поселимося.

15

“For indeed, I will make you small among nations,
Despised among men.

15

Через це послухайте Господнє слово: Так сказав Господь: Якщо ви даєте ваше обличчя до Єгипту і ввійдете туди жити,

16

Your fierceness has deceived you,
The pride of your heart,
O you who dwell in the clefts of the rock,
Who hold the height of the hill!
Though you make your nest as high as the eagle,
I will bring you down from there,” says the Lord.

16

то буде, що меч, якого ви боїтеся його обличчя, знайде вас у Єгипті, і голод, до якого ви маєте слово від його обличчя, захопить вас у Єгипті, і там помрете.

17

“Edom also shall be an astonishment;
Everyone who goes by it will be astonished
And will hiss at all its plagues.

17

І буде, що всі люди і всі чужинці, які кладуть їхнє обличчя на єгипетську землю, щоб там жити, зникнуть від меча і від голоду, і з них не буде нікого, хто спасеться від зла, яке Я на них наводжу.

18

As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah
And their neighbors,” says the Lord,
“No one shall remain there,
Nor shall a son of man dwell in it.

Адже так сказав Господь: Так, як Мій гнів упав на тих, що живуть в Єрусалимі, так упаде Мій гнів на вас, коли ви ввійдете до Єгипту, і станете непрохідними і підлеглими, і прокляттям, і на пониження, і більше ніколи не побачите цього місця.

19

“Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the [g]floodplain of the Jordan
Against the dwelling place of the strong;
But I will suddenly make him run away from her.
And who is a chosen man that I may appoint over her?
For who is like Me?
Who will arraign Me?
And who is that shepherd
Who will withstand Me?”

Те, що сказав Господь для вас, що залишилися з Юди: Не входьте до Єгипту, і тепер достеменно знайте [2] ,

20

Therefore hear the counsel of the Lord that He has taken against Edom,
And His purposes that He has proposed against the inhabitants of Teman:
Surely the least of the flock shall [h]draw them out;
Surely He shall make their dwelling places desolate with them.

20

що ви вчинили зло вашим душам, виславши мене, кажучи: Помолися за нас до Господа, і зробимо згідно з усім, що лиш тобі скаже Господь.

21

The earth shakes at the noise of their fall;
At the cry its noise is heard at the Red Sea.

21

І ви не послухалися голосу Господа, Який послав мене до вас.

22

Behold, He shall come up and fly like the eagle,
And spread His wings over Bozrah;
The heart of the mighty men of Edom in that day shall be
Like the heart of a woman in birth pangs.

22

Тож тепер через меч і голод пропадете в місці, куди ви забажали ввійти туди жити.
