    God’s Continuing Love for Israel

    “When Israel was a [a]child, I loved him,
    And out of Egypt I called My son.

    Мов досьвітня зоря, минеться царство Ізраїля! — Коли ж Ізраїль був ще малолїтком, я полюбив його, і з Египту покликав його — сина мого.

    [b]As they called them,
    So they went [c]from them;
    They sacrificed to the Baals,
    And burned incense to carved images.

    Та їх кликали, а вони одвертались від мене: приносили жертву Баалам і кадили перед ідолами.

    “I taught Ephraim to walk,
    Taking them by [d]their arms;
    But they did not know that I healed them.

    Я самий вчив Ефраїма ходити, носив його на руках моїх, та вони на тім не розумілись, що я гоїв їх рани.

    I drew them with [e]gentle cords,
    With bands of love,
    And I was to them as those who take the yoke from their [f]neck.
    I stooped and fed them.

    “He shall not return to the land of Egypt;
    But the Assyrian shall be his king,
    Because they refused to repent.

    Тепер він не вернеться в Египет, але Ассур царем його буде, за те, що не хотїли навернутись.

    And the sword shall slash in his cities,
    Devour his districts,
    And consume them,
    Because of their own counsels.

    My people are bent on backsliding from Me.
    Though [g]they call [h]to the Most High,
    None at all exalt Him.

    Народ мій здеревів у відпадї од мене, й хоч йому про високе говорять, він не підносить у гору свого духа.

    “How can I give you up, Ephraim?
    How can I hand you over, Israel?
    How can I make you like Admah?
    How can I set you like Zeboiim?
    My heart [i]churns within Me;
    My sympathy is stirred.

    Що менї чинити з тобою, Ефраїме? Як менї віддавати тебе на поталу, Ізраїлю? Чи зроблю з тобою те, що з Адамою, чи вчиню тобі те саме, що Севоїмові? Обернулось бо в менї серце моє, зворушився жаль мій.

    I will not execute the fierceness of My anger;
    I will not again destroy Ephraim.
    For I am God, and not man,
    The Holy One in your midst;
    And I will not [j]come with terror.

    Не вчиню того, до чого палаючий гнїв мене пориває, не викореню Ефраїма, бо я Бог, а не людина; я бо посеред тебе, я — сьвятий; я не вломлюся ворогом у місто.

    “They shall walk after the Lord.
    He will roar like a lion.
    When He roars,
    Then His sons shall come trembling from the west;

    (колись) Пійдуть усї слїдом за Господом. Як лев, видасть він із себе голос; дасть голос свій почути, — й ворохнуться дїти з заходу.

    They shall come trembling like a bird from Egypt,
    Like a dove from the land of Assyria.
    And I will let them dwell in their houses,”
    Says the Lord.

    Прилинуть із Египту, як птаство, як голуби з краю Ассирийського, й поселю їх у домівках їх, говорить Господь.

    God’s Charge Against Ephraim

    “Ephraim has encircled Me with lies,
    And the house of Israel with deceit;
    But Judah still walks with God,
    Even with the [k]Holy One who is faithful.

    (та поки що) Обгорнув мене Ефраїм ложею, дім Ізраїля — зрадою; Юда держався ще найбільше Бога, й був вірним із сьвятими (слугами).
