Relentless Judgment on Israel

When Ephraim spoke, trembling,
He exalted himself in Israel;
But when he offended through Baal worship, he died.

Як говорив, було, Ефраїм — усі тремтіли: він був в Ізраїлі поважний. Та він через Ваала провинився й загинув.

2

Now they sin more and more,
And have made for themselves molded images,
Idols of their silver, according to their skill;
All of it is the work of craftsmen.
They say of them,
“Let [a]the men who sacrifice [b]kiss the calves!”

І нині вони грішать дедалі більше й більше. Вони собі зробили литих бовванів із свого срібла, згідно із своїм розумом — ідолів: усе робота ремісницька! І примовляють: «Жертвуйте їм! Люди, телят цілуйте!»

Therefore they shall be like the morning cloud
And like the early dew that passes away,
Like chaff blown off from a threshing floor
And like smoke from a chimney.

За те ж і будуть вони, неначе мряка вранці, немов роса, яка зникає вдосвіта, немов полова, що вітер її з току звіває; мов дим з вікна.

“Yet I am the Lord your God
Ever since the land of Egypt,
And you shall know no God but Me;
For there is no savior besides Me.

Однак, я — Господь, Бог твій, із Єгипетського краю. Іншого, крім мене, Бога ти не знаєш, і опріч мене, — Спасителя немає.

I [c]knew you in the wilderness,
In the land of [d]great drought.

Я знав тебе в пустині, в краю великої посухи.

When they had pasture, they were filled;
They were filled and their heart was exalted;
Therefore they forgot Me.

Коли ж їх нагодовано й вони стали ситі, наситилися, — серце їхнє загорділо, тому мене й забули.

“So I will be to them like a lion;
Like a leopard by the road I will lurk;

Тому то я для них став левом; мов леопард, чигатиму при дорозі.

8

I will meet them like a bear deprived of her cubs;
I will tear open their rib cage,
And there I will devour them like a lion.
The [e]wild beast shall tear them.

Немов ведмедиця, що забрано в неї ведмежат, я на них накинусь; я роздеру їхнього серця оболону й там пожеру їх, мов левиця; звір дикий буде їх на шматки розривати.

“O Israel, [f]you are destroyed,
But [g]your help is from Me.

Знищу тебе, Ізраїлю, — хто прийде тобі з допомогою?

10

[h]I will be your King;
Where is any other,
That he may save you in all your cities?
And your judges to whom you said,
‘Give me a king and princes’?

Де ж він, твій цар, щоб тебе рятувати по всіх твоїх містах? Де твої судді, що про них говорив єси: «Дай мені царя і князів»?

I gave you a king in My anger,
And took him away in My wrath.

11

Я дав тобі царя у моїм гніві, і забрав геть у моїм обуренні.

12

“The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up;
His sin is stored up.

Несправедливість Ефраїма, зв'язана у вузол, гріх його схований ретельно.

13

The sorrows of a woman in childbirth shall come upon him.
He is an unwise son,
For he should not stay long where children are born.

13

Прийдуть на нього муки породіллі, та він — син нерозумний: вже час би й народитись, та він не покидає материнського лона.

14

“I will ransom them from the [i]power of [j]the grave;
I will redeem them from death.
O Death, [k]I will be your plagues!
O [l]Grave, [m]I will be your destruction!
Pity is hidden from My eyes.”

І я б та визволяв їх з руки Шеолу? Я б їх рятував від смерти? Де твої рани, смерте? Де бич твій, о Шеоле? Жалю не буде в мене.

15

Though he is fruitful among his brethren,
An east wind shall come;
The wind of the Lord shall come up from the wilderness.
Then his spring shall become dry,
And his fountain shall be dried up.
He shall plunder the treasury of every desirable prize.

Хоч Ефраїм посеред очерету процвітає, та прийде східній вітер; Господній вітер здійметься з пустині й висушить його джерела, висушить його криниці; ограбує скарб усього дорогоцінного посуду.
