Relentless Judgment on Israel

When Ephraim spoke, trembling,
He exalted himself in Israel;
But when he offended through Baal worship, he died.

1

Як Єфрем говорив, то тремтіли, — він підне́сений був ув Ізраїлі, та через Ваа́ла згрішив і помер.

2

Now they sin more and more,
And have made for themselves molded images,
Idols of their silver, according to their skill;
All of it is the work of craftsmen.
They say of them,
“Let [a]the men who sacrifice [b]kiss the calves!”

А тепер іще більше гріша́ть, бо зробили собі вони ві́длива з срі́бла свого́, божкі́в за своєю подо́бою; робота майстрі́в усе те, розмовляють із ними вони; ті люди, що жертву прино́сять, цілують телят.

Therefore they shall be like the morning cloud
And like the early dew that passes away,
Like chaff blown off from a threshing floor
And like smoke from a chimney.

Тому́ вони стануть, як хмара пора́нку, і мов та роса, що зникає вранці, немов та поло́ва, що з то́ку вино́ситься бурею, і наче із ко́мина дим.

“Yet I am the Lord your God
Ever since the land of Egypt,
And you shall know no God but Me;
For there is no savior besides Me.

А Я — Господь, Бог твій від кра́ю єгипетського, і Бога, крім Мене, не бу́деш ти знати, і крім Мене немає Спасителя.

I [c]knew you in the wilderness,
In the land of [d]great drought.

5

Я тебе на пустині пізнав, у пересо́хлому кра́ї.

When they had pasture, they were filled;
They were filled and their heart was exalted;
Therefore they forgot Me.

Мали добрі пасо́виська й ситі були, наси́тилися — і загорди́лось їхнє серце, тому́ то забули про Мене вони!

7

“So I will be to them like a lion;
Like a leopard by the road I will lurk;

І став Я для них, немов лев, на дорозі чига́ю, немов та панте́ра.

8

I will meet them like a bear deprived of her cubs;
I will tear open their rib cage,
And there I will devour them like a lion.
The [e]wild beast shall tear them.

Нападу́ Я на них, немов та ведмеди́ця, що дітей загубила, і те розірву́, у що серце їхнє за́мкнене, і їх, як левчу́к, пожеру́ там, шматуватиме їх польова́ звірина́.

“O Israel, [f]you are destroyed,
But [g]your help is from Me.

Погубив ти себе, о Ізраїлю, бо ти був проти Мене, спасі́ння свого́.

10

[h]I will be your King;
Where is any other,
That he may save you in all your cities?
And your judges to whom you said,
‘Give me a king and princes’?

Де цар твій тоді? Нехай він поможе тобі по міста́х твоїх усіх! А де су́дді твої, що про них ти сказав: Дай нам царя та князі́в?

I gave you a king in My anger,
And took him away in My wrath.

11

Я тобі дав царя в Своїм гніві, і забрав у Своїй ре́вності.

“The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up;
His sin is stored up.

Провина Єфремова зв'я́зана, схо́ваний прогріх його.

13

The sorrows of a woman in childbirth shall come upon him.
He is an unwise son,
For he should not stay long where children are born.

Болі, немов породі́ллі, наді́йдуть на нього. Не мудрий він син, бо інакше не був би так довго у ма́тернім ну́трі.

14

“I will ransom them from the [i]power of [j]the grave;
I will redeem them from death.
O Death, [k]I will be your plagues!
O [l]Grave, [m]I will be your destruction!
Pity is hidden from My eyes.”

З рук шеолу Я ви́куплю їх, від смерти їх ви́бавлю. Де, смерте, жа́ло твоє? Де, шео́ле, твоя перемо́га? Жаль схова́ється перед очима Моїми!

15

Though he is fruitful among his brethren,
An east wind shall come;
The wind of the Lord shall come up from the wilderness.
Then his spring shall become dry,
And his fountain shall be dried up.
He shall plunder the treasury of every desirable prize.

Хоч він дає плід між брата́ми, але прийде вітер зо схо́ду, вітер Госпо́дній, що зі́йде з пустині, і всо́хне його джерело́, і пересо́хне крини́чка його, — понищить він скарб всіх коштовних рече́й!
