Judgments on Israel’s Neighbors

The words of Amos, who was among the sheepbreeders of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.

Слова Амоса, які були між наккарімами [1] з Текуї, які він побачив про Єрусалим у дні Озії, царя Юди, і в дні Єровоама, сина Йоаса, царя Ізраїля, за два роки до землетрусу.

And he said:
“The Lord roars from Zion,
And utters His voice from Jerusalem;
The pastures of the shepherds mourn,
And the top of Carmel withers.”

І він сказав: Заговорив Господь із Сіону, і з Єрусалима подав Свій голос, і заплакали пасовиська пастухів, і висохло верхів’я Кармила.

Judgment on the Nations

Thus says the Lord:
“For three transgressions of Damascus, and for four,
I will not turn away its punishment,
Because they have threshed Gilead with implements of iron.

І сказав Господь: Через три безбожності Дамаску і через чотири Я від нього не відвернуся, тому що розтяли залізними пилами тих, котрі мали в лоні, з тих, що в Ґалааді.

But I will send a fire into the house of Hazael,
Which shall devour the palaces of Ben-Hadad.

Тож пошлю вогонь до дому Азаїла, і пожере основи сина Адера.

5

I will also break the gate bar of Damascus,
And cut off the inhabitant from the Valley of Aven,
And the one who [a]holds the scepter from [b]Beth Eden.
The people of Syria shall go captive to Kir,”
Says the Lord.

І розіб’ю засуви Дамаску, вигублю тих, що живуть, з рівнини Она, і виріжу плем’я з мужів Харрана, і полонені будуть славним народом Сирії, — говорить Господь.

Thus says the Lord:
“For three transgressions of Gaza, and for four,
I will not turn away its punishment,
Because they took captive the whole captivity
To deliver them up to Edom.

Так говорить Господь: За три безбожності Ґази і за чотири не відступлюся від них, бо вони в полон взяли полонених Соломона, щоб замкнути в Ідумеї.

But I will send a fire upon the wall of Gaza,
Which shall devour its palaces.

7

Я пошлю вогонь на стіни Ґази, — і він пожере її основи.

8

I will cut off the inhabitant from Ashdod,
And the one who holds the scepter from Ashkelon;
I will turn My hand against Ekron,
And the remnant of the Philistines shall perish,”
Says the Lord God.

І вигублю тих, що живуть, з Азоту, і буде забране плем’я з Аскалону, і наведу Свою руку на Аккарон, і загинуть чужинці, які залишилися, — говорить Господь.

Thus says the Lord:
“For three transgressions of Tyre, and for four,
I will not turn away its punishment,
Because they delivered up the whole captivity to Edom,
And did not remember the covenant of brotherhood.

Так говорить Господь: За три безбожності Тиру і за чотири не відступлюся від нього, оскільки вони замкнули полонених Соломона в Ідумеї і не згадали завіт братів.

10

But I will send a fire upon the wall of Tyre,
Which shall devour its palaces.”

І пошлю вогонь на стіни Тиру, і він пожере його основи.

Thus says the Lord:
“For three transgressions of Edom, and for four,
I will not turn away its punishment,
Because he pursued his brother with the sword,
And cast off all pity;
His anger tore perpetually,
And he kept his wrath forever.

Так говорить Господь: За три безбожності Ідумеї і за чотири не відступлюся від них, бо вони переслідували їхнього брата мечем, і він знищив лоно на землі та захопив на своє свідчення лють, і порив свій зберіг до перемоги.

12

But I will send a fire upon Teman,
Which shall devour the palaces of Bozrah.”

І пошлю вогонь на Теман, і він пожере основи його стін.

Thus says the Lord:
“For three transgressions of the people of Ammon, and for four,
I will not turn away its punishment,
Because they ripped open the women with child in Gilead,
That they might enlarge their territory.

Так говорить Господь: За три безбожності синів Аммона і за чотири не відступлюся від нього, тому що вони розсікали тих ґалаадійок, які мали в лоні, щоб поширити свої границі!

14

But I will kindle a fire in the wall of Rabbah,
And it shall devour its palaces,
Amid shouting in the day of battle,
And a tempest in the day of the whirlwind.

І запалю вогонь на стінах Равви, — і пожерта буде її основа з криком у день бою, і затрясеться в день свого кінця.

15

Their king shall go into captivity,
He and his princes together,”
Says the Lord.

15

І її царі підуть у полон, їхні священики та їхні володарі разом, — говорить Господь.
