Judgment on Israel

Thus says the Lord:
“For three transgressions of Moab, and for four,
I will not turn away its punishment,
Because he burned the bones of the king of Edom to lime.

Так говорить Господь: За три провини Моабові й за чотирі я не прощу йому, він бо перепалив костї царя Едомського на вапяний попіл.

2

But I will send a fire upon Moab,
And it shall devour the palaces of Kerioth;
Moab shall die with tumult,
With shouting and trumpet sound.

2

Я пошлю огонь на Моаба, й пожере будівлї Керіоту, й погибне Моаб серед розгрому й трубнього гуку.

3

And I will cut off the judge from its midst,
And slay all its princes with him,”
Says the Lord.

Затрачу володаря зпосеред нього й умертвлю всїх князїв його разом із ним, говорить Господь.

Judgment on Judah

Thus says the Lord:
“For three transgressions of Judah, and for four,
I will not turn away its punishment,
Because they have despised the law of the Lord,
And have not kept His commandments.
Their lies lead them astray,
Lies which their fathers followed.

Так говорить Господь: За три провини Юди й за чотирі я не прощу йому, бо вони відкинули закон Господень і не певнили постанов його, та дали звести себе з дороги ідолам, що за ними ще батьки їх ходили.

5

But I will send a fire upon Judah,
And it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem.”

Я пошлю огонь на Юду, й пожере він палати в Ерусалимі.

Judgment on Israel

Thus says the Lord:
“For three transgressions of Israel, and for four,
I will not turn away its punishment,
Because they sell the righteous for silver,
And the poor for a pair of sandals.

Так говорить Господь: За три провини Ізраїля й за чотирі я не прощу йому, вони бо продають праведного за гроші, а вбогого ба й за пару сандалів.

7

They [a]pant after the dust of the earth which is on the head of the poor,
And pervert the way of the humble.
A man and his father go in to the same girl,
To defile My holy name.

Залюбки вони голови вбогих у земний порох прихиляють, а поступки тихих перекручують; і батько й син до одної нетрібки ходять, щоб знеславляти сьвяте ймя моє.

They lie down by every altar on clothes taken in pledge,
And drink the wine of [b]the condemned in the house of their god.

Ув одежі, в застав взятій, лежать на вколїшках при всїх жертівниках, а вино від винуватцїв пють у домах богів своїх.

“Yet it was I who destroyed the Amorite before them,
Whose height was like the height of the cedars,
And he was as strong as the oaks;
Yet I destroyed his fruit above
And his roots beneath.

А я вигубив перед очима в них Амморея, високого, мов той кедр високий, а як дуб, сильного; затратив від вершка до кореня внизу.

10

Also it was I who brought you up from the land of Egypt,
And led you forty years through the wilderness,
To possess the land of the Amorite.

Вас же я вивів із землї Египецької, та водив вас сорок років по пустинї, щоб ви посїли землю Аморійську.

11

I raised up some of your sons as prophets,
And some of your young men as Nazirites.
Is it not so, O you children of Israel?”
Says the Lord.

Із синів ваших вибирав я пророків, а з молодиків ваших — назореїв; — чи ж не так, ти, Ізраїлю? говорить Господь.

12

“But you gave the Nazirites wine to drink,
And commanded the prophets saying,
‘Do not prophesy!’

А ви назореїв вином поїли, а пророкам наказували, кажучи: Не пророкуйте!

13

“Behold, I am [c]weighed down by you,
As a cart full of sheaves [d]is weighed down.

13

Тим то я придавлю вас, як давить віз, накладений снопами;

14

Therefore [e]flight shall perish from the swift,
The strong shall not strengthen his power,
Nor shall the mighty [f]deliver himself;

14

І в моторного не буде снаги втїкати, й силач ізнеможе на силї своїй, та й хоробрий не врятує життя свого.

15

He shall not stand who handles the bow,
The swift of foot shall not [g]escape,
Nor shall he who rides a horse deliver himself.

15

Нї лучник не встоїть із луком, нї швидкий в ногах не втече, та й їздець на конї не спасе життя свого.

16

The most [h]courageous men of might
Shall flee naked in that day,”
Says the Lord.

16

Ба й наймужнїйший зміж відважних утїкати буде того часу без оружжя, як нагий, говорить Господь.
