Judgment on Israel

Thus says the Lord:
“For three transgressions of Moab, and for four,
I will not turn away its punishment,
Because he burned the bones of the king of Edom to lime.

Так говорить Господь: За три безбожності Моава і за чотири не відступлюся від нього, тому що спалили кості царя Ідумеї на попіл.

2

But I will send a fire upon Moab,
And it shall devour the palaces of Kerioth;
Moab shall die with tumult,
With shouting and trumpet sound.

2

Тож пошлю вогонь на Моава, і він пожере основи його міст, і Моав помре в безсиллі з криком і з голосом труби.

3

And I will cut off the judge from its midst,
And slay all its princes with him,”
Says the Lord.

І вигублю з-поміж нього суддю, і вб’ю з ним усіх його володарів, — говорить Господь.

Judgment on Judah

Thus says the Lord:
“For three transgressions of Judah, and for four,
I will not turn away its punishment,
Because they have despised the law of the Lord,
And have not kept His commandments.
Their lies lead them astray,
Lies which their fathers followed.

Так промовляє Господь: За три безбожності синів Юди і за чотири не відступлюся від нього, оскільки відкинули вони закон Господа, не берегли Його приписів, і їх звели їхні безглуздя, які вони чинили, — ті, за якими їхні батьки ходили.

But I will send a fire upon Judah,
And it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem.”

І пошлю вогонь на Юду, і він пожере основи Єрусалима.

Judgment on Israel

Thus says the Lord:
“For three transgressions of Israel, and for four,
I will not turn away its punishment,
Because they sell the righteous for silver,
And the poor for a pair of sandals.

Так говорить Господь: За три безбожності Ізраїля і за чотири не відступлюся від нього, тому що вони продали праведного за срібло і бідного за взуття,

7

They [a]pant after the dust of the earth which is on the head of the poor,
And pervert the way of the humble.
A man and his father go in to the same girl,
To defile My holy name.

котрі ходять по пороху землі, били бідних у голови і викривили дорогу впокорених, а син та його батько входили до тієї ж рабині, щоб опоганити Ім’я їхнього Бога.

They lie down by every altar on clothes taken in pledge,
And drink the wine of [b]the condemned in the house of their god.

Зв’язуючи свій одяг шнурками, вони робили завіси біля жертовника і пили вино здирства в домі їхнього Бога.

9

“Yet it was I who destroyed the Amorite before them,
Whose height was like the height of the cedars,
And he was as strong as the oaks;
Yet I destroyed his fruit above
And his roots beneath.

Я ж відкинув Аморея від їхнього обличчя, в якого його висота була, наче висота кедра, і він був сильний, наче дуб, і я відкинув його плід угорі та його коріння внизу.

Also it was I who brought you up from the land of Egypt,
And led you forty years through the wilderness,
To possess the land of the Amorite.

Я вивів вас із єгипетської землі й водив вас по пустелі сорок років, щоб дати в спадок землю аморейців.

11

I raised up some of your sons as prophets,
And some of your young men as Nazirites.
Is it not so, O you children of Israel?”
Says the Lord.

Я взяв з ваших синів на пророків та з ваших юнаків на освячення. Хіба ж не так є, сини Ізраїля? — говорить Господь.

12

“But you gave the Nazirites wine to drink,
And commanded the prophets saying,
‘Do not prophesy!’

Ви напоїли вином освячених, і пророкам ви заповіли, кажучи: Не пророкуйте!

13

“Behold, I am [c]weighed down by you,
As a cart full of sheaves [d]is weighed down.

Через це ось Я покочу під вами, як котиться віз, повний тростини.

14

Therefore [e]flight shall perish from the swift,
The strong shall not strengthen his power,
Nor shall the mighty [f]deliver himself;

14

І загине втеча від бігуна, і сильний не збереже своєї сили, а борець не врятує своєї душі,

15

He shall not stand who handles the bow,
The swift of foot shall not [g]escape,
Nor shall he who rides a horse deliver himself.

15

стрілець не встоїть, швидкий своїми ногами не врятується, і вершник не врятує своєї душі,

16

The most [h]courageous men of might
Shall flee naked in that day,”
Says the Lord.

16

і не знайде своє серце в силах, нагим буде гнаний у той день, — говорить Господь.
