Authority of the Prophet’s Message

Hear this word that the Lord has spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying:

Слушайте слово сие, которое Господь изрёк на вас, сыны Израилевы, на всё племя, которое вывел Я из земли Египетской, говоря:

“You only have I known of all the families of the earth;
Therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities.”

только вас признал Я из всех племён земли, потому и взыщу с вас за все беззакония ваши.

Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?

Пойдут ли двое вместе, не сговорившись между собою?

Will a lion roar in the forest, when he has no prey?
Will a young lion [a]cry out of his den, if he has caught nothing?

Ревёт ли лев в лесу, когда нет перед ним добычи? подаёт ли свой голос львёнок из логовища своего, когда он ничего не поймал?

Will a bird fall into a snare on the earth, where there is no [b]trap for it?
Will a snare spring up from the earth, if it has caught nothing at all?

Попадёт ли птица в петлю на земле, когда силка нет для неё? Поднимется ли с земли петля, когда ничего не попало в неё?

If a [c]trumpet is blown in a city, will not the people be afraid?
If there is calamity in a city, will not the Lord have done it?

Трубит ли в городе труба, — и народ не испугался бы? Бывает ли в городе бедствие, которое не Господь попустил бы?

Surely the Lord God does nothing,
Unless He reveals His secret to His servants the prophets.

Ибо Господь Бог ничего не делает, не открыв Своей тайны рабам Своим, пророкам.

A lion has roared!
Who will not fear?
The Lord God has spoken!
Who can but prophesy?

Лев начал рыкать — кто не содрогнётся? Господь Бог сказал — кто не будет пророчествовать?

Punishment of Israel’s Sins

“Proclaim in the palaces at [d]Ashdod,
And in the palaces in the land of Egypt, and say:
‘Assemble on the mountains of Samaria;
See great tumults in her midst,
And the [e]oppressed within her.

Провозгласите на кровлях в Азоте и на кровлях в земле Египетской и скажите: соберитесь на горы Самарии и посмотрите на великое бесчинство в ней и на притеснения среди неё.

For they do not know to do right,’
Says the Lord,
‘Who store up violence and [f]robbery in their palaces.’ ”

Они не умеют поступать справедливо, говорит Господь: насилием и грабежом собирают сокровища в чертоги свои.

11

Therefore thus says the Lord God:
“An adversary shall be all around the land;
He shall sap your strength from you,
And your palaces shall be plundered.”

Посему так говорит Господь Бог: вот неприятель, и притом вокруг всей земли! он низложит могущество твоё, и ограблены будут чертоги твои.

Thus says the Lord:
“As a shepherd [g]takes from the mouth of a lion
Two legs or a piece of an ear,
So shall the children of Israel be taken out
Who dwell in Samaria —
In the corner of a bed and [h]on the edge of a couch!

Так говорит Господь: как иногда пастух исторгает из пасти львиной две голени или часть уха, так спасены будут сыны Израилевы, сидящие в Самарии в углу постели и в Дамаске на ложе.

13

Hear and testify against the house of Jacob,”
Says the Lord God, the God of hosts,

Слушайте и засвидетельствуйте дому Иакова, говорит Господь Бог, Бог Саваоф.

14

“That in the day I punish Israel for their transgressions,
I will also visit destruction on the altars of Bethel;
And the horns of the altar shall be cut off
And fall to the ground.

Ибо в тот день, когда Я взыщу с Израиля за преступления его, взыщу и за жертвенники в Вефиле, и отсечены будут роги алтаря, и падут на землю.

15

I will [i]destroy the winter house along with the summer house;
The houses of ivory shall perish,
And the great houses shall have an end,”
Says the Lord.

И поражу дом зимний вместе с домом летним, и исчезнут домы с украшениями из слоновой кости, и не станет многих домов, говорит Господь.
