God’s Punishments Have Not Reformed Israel

Hear this word, you cows of Bashan, who are on the mountain of Samaria,
Who oppress the poor,
Who crush the needy,
Who say to [a]your husbands, “Bring wine, let us drink!”

Послухайте це слово, телички Васанітіди, ті, що на горі Самарії, які насилували бідних, і ті, що топчуть бідних, які говорять їхнім панам: Дайте нам, щоб ми пили!

The Lord God has sworn by His holiness:
“Behold, the days shall come upon you
When He will take you away with fishhooks,
And your posterity with fishhooks.

Клянеться Господь Своїми святощами! Бо ось на нас приходять дні, і візьму вас зброєю, і тих, що з вами, язичники кинуть у вогняні палаючі печі,

You will go out through broken walls,
Each one straight ahead of her,
And you will [b]be cast into Harmon,”
Says the Lord.

і будете виведені нагими напроти себе та відкинені до гори Реммана, — говорить Господь.

“Come to Bethel and transgress,
At Gilgal multiply transgression;
Bring your sacrifices every morning,
Your tithes every three [c]days.

Ви ввійшли у Ветиль, і ви чинили беззаконня, ви помножили в Ґалґалі, щоби бути безбожними, і ви зранку принесли ваші жертви, у три дні — ваші десятини.

Offer a sacrifice of thanksgiving with leaven,
Proclaim and announce the freewill offerings;
For this you love,
You children of Israel!”
Says the Lord God.

Вони прочитали закон назовні та закликали до прославляння. Сповістіть, бо сини Ізраїля це полюбили, — говорить Господь Бог.

Israel Did Not Accept Correction

“Also I gave you [d]cleanness of teeth in all your cities,
And lack of bread in all your places;
Yet you have not returned to Me,”
Says the Lord.

Я дам вам біль зубів у всіх ваших містах і брак хліба в усіх ваших місцях. Ви ж не повернулися до Мене, — говорить Господь.

“I also withheld rain from you,
When there were still three months to the harvest.
I made it rain on one city,
I withheld rain from another city.
One part was rained upon,
And where it did not rain the part withered.

Я затримав від вас дощ перед трьома місяцями жнив. Я дам дощ на перше місто, а на одне місто не дам дощу. Одна частина одержить дощ, а в тій частині, на яку не дам дощу, буде засуха.

So two or three cities wandered to another city to drink water,
But they were not satisfied;
Yet you have not returned to Me,”
Says the Lord.

І зберуться два і три міста до одного міста, щоб пити воду, та не наситяться. І так ви не повернулися до Мене, — говорить Господь.

“I blasted you with blight and mildew.
When your gardens increased,
Your vineyards,
Your fig trees,
And your olive trees,
The locust devoured them;
Yet you have not returned to Me,”
Says the Lord.

Я уразив вас спаленням і жовтухою. Ви помножили ваші сади, ваші виноградники і ваші фігові дерева, та гусениця пожерла ваші оливкові дерева. Але ви так і не повернулися до Мене, — говорить Господь.

“I sent among you a plague after the manner of Egypt;
Your young men I killed with a sword,
Along with your captive horses;
I made the stench of your camps come up into your nostrils;
Yet you have not returned to Me,”
Says the Lord.

Я послав на вас смерть на дорозі Єгипту, Я побив мечем ваших юнаків з полоном твоїх коней, і Я вивів у вогні ваші табори у вашому гніві. А ви так і не повернулися до Мене, — говорить Господь.

“I overthrew some of you,
As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah,
And you were like a firebrand plucked from the burning;
Yet you have not returned to Me,”
Says the Lord.

Я вас розбив, — як Бог розбив Содом і Гоморру, — і ви стали, наче головешка, витягнена з вогню. Ви ж так і не повернулися до Мене, — говорить Господь.

“Therefore thus will I do to you, O Israel;
Because I will do this to you,
Prepare to meet your God, O Israel!”

Через це так учиню з тобою, Ізраїлю: Бо тільки так зроблю з тобою, приготуйся прикликати твого Бога, Ізраїлю!

For behold,
He who forms mountains,
And creates the [e]wind,
Who declares to man what [f]his thought is,
And makes the morning darkness,
Who treads the high places of the earth —
The Lord God of hosts is His name.

Тому що ось Я — Той, Який дає силу громові, створює дух і сповіщає в людях свого помазаника, Той, Хто творить ранок і туман, і Хто виходить на висоти землі. Господь, Бог Вседержитель, Його Ім’я!
