Wicked Rulers and Prophets

And I said:
“Hear now, O heads of Jacob,
And you rulers of the house of Israel:
Is it not for you to know justice?

1

І сказав я: Слухайте, голови Яковові, та й ви, князї дому Ізрайлевого: Хиба ж не вам належиться знати справедливість?

2

You who hate good and love evil;
Who strip the skin from [a]My people,
And the flesh from their bones;

2

А ви ненавидите те, що добре, й любите зло; здираєте з них скіру й тїло з їх костей;

3

Who also eat the flesh of My people,
Flay their skin from them,
Break their bones,
And chop them in pieces
Like meat for the pot,
Like flesh in the caldron.”

Їсте тїло мого люду, й здираєте з них їх скіру, а кістки їх ломите й дробите, наче в горнець, а тїло їх — як би в котел.

4

Then they will cry to the Lord,
But He will not hear them;
He will even hide His face from them at that time,
Because they have been evil in their deeds.

Ой будуть же вони взивати до Господа, та він їх не почує; і закриє лице своє перед ними на ввесь той час, як вони лихо коять.

5

Thus says the Lord concerning the prophets
Who make my people stray;
Who chant [b]“Peace”
[c]While they chew with their teeth,
But who prepare war against him
Who puts nothing into their mouths:

Так говорить Господь на тих пророків, що люд мій морочать, на тих, що, як мають що гризти своїми зубами — віщують мир, а хто не дає їм нїчого в рот, тому заповідають війну.

“Therefore you shall have night without [d]vision,
And you shall have darkness without divination;
The sun shall go down on the prophets,
And the day shall be dark for them.

Тим же то буде вам замість видива — ніч, а темрява — замість пророцтва; зайде сонце над тими пророками й день потемнїє над ними.

7

So the seers shall be ashamed,
And the diviners abashed;
Indeed they shall all cover their lips;
For there is no answer from God.”

І посоромляться віщуни отті, й стидом окриються всї ворожбити; вони позакривають лиця собі, бо не буде їм відповідї від Господа.

8

But truly I am full of power by the Spirit of the Lord,
And of justice and might,
To declare to Jacob his transgression
And to Israel his sin.

8

Я ж — повен сили Духа Господнього, справедливостї й непохитностї, щоб виповісти Яковові проступки його та й Ізраїлеві — гріхи його.

9

Now hear this,
You heads of the house of Jacob
And rulers of the house of Israel,
Who abhor justice
And [e]pervert all equity,

Слухайте ж се, голови дому Яковового, й ви, князї дому Ізрайлевого, що вам правий суд ненавиден, і все праве викривляєте,

10

Who build up Zion with bloodshed
And Jerusalem with iniquity:

10

Що будуєтесь на Сионї з кровавої кривди, й в Ерусалимі — з неправди!

11

Her heads judge for a bribe,
Her priests teach for pay,
And her prophets divine for [f]money.
Yet they lean on the Lord, and say,
“Is not the Lord among us?
No harm can come upon us.”

Голови його судять за гостинцї, і сьвященники його навчають за плату, та й пророки його за гроші віщують, та ще й на Господа здаються, мовляючи: чи ж Господь не серед нас пробуває? на нас біда не прийде!

12

Therefore because of you
Zion shall be plowed like a field,
Jerusalem shall become heaps of ruins,
And the mountain of the [g]temple
Like the bare hills of the forest.

12

От же через вас буде Сион, як поле, роз'ораний, з Ерусалиму зробиться купа розвалищ, а гора під сим храмом стане горою, порослою лїсом.
