Dissension of Aaron and Miriam

Then Miriam and Aaron [a]spoke against Moses because of the [b]Ethiopian woman whom he had married; for he had married an Ethiopian woman.

Марія ж з Ароном нарікали на Мойсея з-за жінки-кушійки, він бо взяв жінку-кушійку,

So they said, “Has the Lord indeed spoken only through Moses? Has He not spoken through us also?” And the Lord heard it.

2

і говорили: “Чи тільки ж до Мойсея промовляв Господь? Хіба й до нас не говорив він?” Господь почув те.

3

(Now the man Moses was very humble, more than all men who were on the face of the earth.)

З Мойсея ж був собі вельми тихий чоловік, понад усіх людей на світі.

Suddenly the Lord said to Moses, Aaron, and Miriam, “Come out, you three, to the tabernacle of meeting!” So the three came out.

Тож зараз і сказав Господь до Мойсея, Арона та до Марії: “Вийдіть ви троє, йдіть до намету зборів.” І вийшли вони троє.

Then the Lord came down in the pillar of cloud and stood in the door of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam. And they both went forward.

І зійшов Господь у хмарному стовпі, ставши коло входу в намет, і покликав Арона й Марію; і коли вони вийшли обоє,

Then He said,
“Hear now My words:
If there is a prophet among you,
I, the Lord, make Myself known to him in a vision;
I speak to him in a dream.

сказав: “Ось слухайте мої слова: Якби хтось із вас та був пророком, я б, Господь, у видінні об'явивсь йому, і в сні говорив із ним.

7

Not so with My servant Moses;
He is faithful in all My house.

7

Не так слуга мій Мойсей, а повіреник він у всьому моєму домі.

8

I speak with him face to face,
Even plainly,[c] and not in [d]dark sayings;
And he sees the form of the Lord.
Why then were you not afraid
To speak against My servant Moses?”

8

Устами до уст розмовляю я з ним, і ясно, не загадками, і бачить він образ Господній. Як же то ви посміли нарікати на Мойсея, на слугу мого?”

So the anger of the Lord was aroused against them, and He departed.

І, палаючи гнівом супроти них, відійшов Господь.

10

And when the cloud departed from above the tabernacle, suddenly Miriam became leprous, as white as snow. Then Aaron turned toward Miriam, and there she was, a leper.

Скоро ж хмара відступила від намету зборів, Марія зробилась білою, мов сніг, від прокази. Обернувсь Арон до Марії, аж вона прокажена.

So Aaron said to Moses, “Oh, my lord! Please do not lay [e]this sin on us, in which we have done foolishly and in which we have sinned.

Тож каже Арон до Мойсея: “Пане мій, благаю тебе, не накладай на нас кару за гріх, і що по-дурному вчинили ми.

12

Please do not let her be as one dead, whose flesh is half consumed when he comes out of his mother’s womb!”

Молю тебе, нехай вона не буде, мов та мертва дитина, що вроджується на світ із напівзогнилим тілом.”

So Moses cried out to the Lord, saying, “Please heal her, O God, I pray!”

І закликав Мойсей до Господа словами: “Благаю тебе, Боже, уздорови її.”

14

Then the Lord said to Moses, “If her father had but spit in her face, would she not be shamed seven days? Let her be shut[f] out of the camp seven days, and afterward she may be received again.”

Господь же сказав Мойсеєві: “А що якби її батько плюнув їй у вічі, то чи не була б вона осоромлена на цілих сім день? Тож нехай зачинять її на сім день поза табором, а потім нехай приймуть назад до себе.”

So Miriam was shut out of the camp seven days, and the people did not journey till Miriam was brought in again.

І відокремили Марію на сім днів за табором; народ не вирушав у дорогу, аж поки вона не повернулася.

And afterward the people moved from Hazeroth and camped in the Wilderness of Paran.

По тому ж народ вирушив із Хацероту та й отаборився у Паран-пустині.
