Defilement Comes from Within

Then the scribes and Pharisees who were from Jerusalem came to Jesus, saying,

Тоді підходять до Ісуса фарисеї [1] і книжники [2] з Єрусалима й питають:

“Why do Your disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread.”

Чому Твої учні порушують передання старших: не миють своїх рук, коли їдять хліб?

He answered and said to them, “Why do you also transgress the commandment of God because of your tradition?

А Він у відповідь сказав їм: Чому ж і ви порушуєте Божу заповідь через ваші передання?

4

For God commanded, saying, ‘Honor your father and your mother’; and, ‘He who curses father or mother, let him be put to death.’

4

Адже Бог сказав: Шануй батька і матір. І ще: Хто зневажає батька або матір, хай смертю помре.

5

But you say, ‘Whoever says to his father or mother, “Whatever profit you might have received from me is a gift to God” —

А ви кажете: Хто скаже батькові чи матері: Добро, яким я міг би допомогти вам, є мій дар для Бога,

then he need not honor his father [a]or mother.’ Thus you have made the [b]commandment of God of no effect by your tradition.

то може й не шанувати свого батька [чи матері]? Так і ви — задля ваших передань скасовуєте Слово Боже.

Hypocrites! Well did Isaiah prophesy about you, saying:

Лицеміри, добре пророкував про вас Ісая, кажучи:

8

‘These people [c]draw near to Me with their mouth,
And honor Me with their lips,
But their heart is far from Me.

8

Цей народ [наближається до Мене своїми устами], губами шанує Мене, серце ж їхнє далеко від Мене;

9

And in vain they worship Me,
Teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.’ ”

та даремно поклоняються Мені, навчаючи людських заповідей.

10

When He had called the multitude to Himself, He said to them, “Hear and understand:

Покликавши людей, Він звернувся до них: Слухайте й розумійте:

11

Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.”

не те, що входить в уста, опоганює людину, а те, що виходить з уст, опоганює людину.

12

Then His disciples came and said to Him, “Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying?”

12

Тоді учні, підійшовши, кажуть Йому: Чи знаєш, що фарисеї, почувши ці слова, спокусилися?

13

But He answered and said, “Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted will be uprooted.

13

А Він у відповідь сказав: Кожна рослина, яку не посадив мій Небесний Отець, буде викоренена.

14

Let them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leads the blind, both will fall into a ditch.”

Залиште їх: це сліпі проводирі сліпих. А коли сліпий веде сліпого, то обидва впадуть у яму.

15

Then Peter answered and said to Him, “Explain this parable to us.”

15

У відповідь Петро попросив Його: Поясни нам цю притчу.

16

So Jesus said, “Are you also still without understanding?

16

[Ісус] же відповів: Невже й досі ви не розумієте?

17

Do you not yet understand that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and is eliminated?

17

Не можете збагнути, що все, що входить в уста, іде в шлунок і виходить геть?

18

But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man.

18

А те, що виходить з уст, виходить із серця — воно опоганює людину.

19

For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies.

19

Адже із серця виходять лукаві думки, вбивства, перелюб, розпуста, злодійство, неправдиві свідчення, богозневага.

20

These are the things which defile a man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man.”

20

Це те, що опоганює людину; їсти ж немитими руками не опоганює людини.

21

A Gentile Shows Her Faith

Then Jesus went out from there and departed to the region of Tyre and Sidon.

21

І вийшовши звідти, Ісус відійшов до околиць Тира й Сидона.

22

And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed.”

22

Жінка-ханаанка з тих околиць вийшла й кричала, гукаючи: Господи, Сину Давидів, помилуй мене, бо мою доньку тяжко мучить біс!

23

But He answered her not a word.
And His disciples came and urged Him, saying, “Send her away, for she cries out after us.”

23

Але Він не відповів їй ані слова. Підійшли Його учні та почали просити Його, кажучи: Відпусти її, бо вона кричить нам услід.

24

But He answered and said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.”

24

У відповідь Він сказав: Я посланий тільки до загиблих овець з дому Ізраїля.

25

Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, help me!”

25

Вона ж підійшла, поклонилася Йому й каже: Господи, допоможи мені!

26

But He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.”

26

А Він у відповідь промовив: Не годиться брати хліб у дітей і кидати щенятам.

27

And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”

27

Вона сказала: Так, Господи, але й щенята їдять крихти, які падають зі столу їхніх панів.

28

Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.

28

Тоді Ісус сказав їй у відповідь: О жінко, велика твоя віра! Нехай буде так, як ти хочеш! І видужала її дочка тієї ж миті.

Jesus Heals Great Multitudes

Jesus departed from there, skirted the Sea of Galilee, and went up on the mountain and sat down there.

Відійшовши звідти, Ісус наблизився до Галилейського моря і, піднявшись на гору, сів там.

30

Then great multitudes came to Him, having with them the lame, blind, mute, [d]maimed, and many others; and they laid them down at Jesus’ feet, and He healed them.

30

І прийшло до Нього багато людей, маючи із собою кривих, сліпих, калік, німих і багатьох інших; їх поклали до Його ніг, а Він зцілив їх.

31

So the multitude marveled when they saw the mute speaking, the [e]maimed made whole, the lame walking, and the blind seeing; and they glorified the God of Israel.

Тож люди дивувалися, коли бачили, що німі говорять, каліки здорові, кульгаві ходять, і сліпі бачать, — прославляли Бога Ізраїлевого.

Feeding the Four Thousand

Now Jesus called His disciples to Himself and said, “I have compassion on the multitude, because they have now continued with Me three days and have nothing to eat. And I do not want to send them away hungry, lest they faint on the way.”

А Ісус, покликавши Своїх учнів, сказав: Жаль Мені цих людей, бо вже три дні перебувають зі Мною і не мають що їсти. Не хочу відпустити їх голодними, щоби часом не ослабли в дорозі.

33

Then His disciples said to Him, “Where could we get enough bread in the wilderness to fill such a great multitude?”

33

Та учні кажуть Йому: Звідки нам у пустелі взяти стільки хліба, щоб нагодувати таку юрбу?

34

Jesus said to them, “How many loaves do you have?”
And they said, “Seven, and a few little fish.”

А Ісус запитує: Скільки хлібів маєте? Вони відказали: Сім і декілька рибин.

35

So He commanded the multitude to sit down on the ground.

35

Звелівши людям сісти на землі,

36

And He took the seven loaves and the fish and gave thanks, broke them and gave them to His disciples; and the disciples gave to the multitude.

36

Він узяв сім хлібів і рибу та, віддавши подяку, переломив і давав учням, а учні — людям.

37

So they all ate and were filled, and they took up seven large baskets full of the fragments that were left.

37

Усі поїли й наситилися. І зібрали кусків, що залишилися, сім повних кошиків.

38

Now those who ate were four thousand men, besides women and children.

38

А тих, які їли, було чотири тисячі чоловіків, не рахуючи жінок і дітей.

39

And He sent away the multitude, got into the boat, and came to the region of [f]Magdala.

39

Відпустивши народ, Ісус сів у човен і прибув до околиць Магдалинських.
