New King James Version

New Living Translation

  • He Is Risen

Now after the Sabbath, as the first day of the week began to dawn, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary came to see the tomb.
  • The Resurrection

Early on Sunday morning,a as the new day was dawning, Mary Magdalene and the other Mary went out to visit the tomb.
  • And behold, there was a great earthquake; for an angel of the Lord descended from heaven, and came and rolled back the stone [a]from the door, and sat on it.
  • Suddenly there was a great earthquake! For an angel of the Lord came down from heaven, rolled aside the stone, and sat on it.
  • His countenance was like lightning, and his clothing as white as snow.
  • His face shone like lightning, and his clothing was as white as snow.
  • And the guards shook for fear of him, and became like dead men.
  • The guards shook with fear when they saw him, and they fell into a dead faint.
  • But the angel answered and said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you seek Jesus who was crucified.
  • Then the angel spoke to the women. “Don’t be afraid!” he said. “I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.
  • He is not here; for He is risen, as He said. Come, see the place where the Lord lay.
  • He isn’t here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen. Come, see where his body was lying.
  • And go quickly and tell His disciples that He is risen from the dead, and indeed He is going before you into Galilee; there you will see Him. Behold, I have told you.”
  • And now, go quickly and tell his disciples that he has risen from the dead, and he is going ahead of you to Galilee. You will see him there. Remember what I have told you.”
  • So they went out quickly from the tomb with fear and great joy, and ran to bring His disciples word.
  • The women ran quickly from the tomb. They were very frightened but also filled with great joy, and they rushed to give the disciples the angel’s message.
  • The Women Worship the Risen Lord

And [b]as they went to tell His disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, “Rejoice!” So they came and held Him by the feet and worshiped Him.
  • And as they went, Jesus met them and greeted them. And they ran to him, grasped his feet, and worshiped him.
  • Then Jesus said to them, “Do not be afraid. Go and tell My brethren to go to Galilee, and there they will see Me.”
  • Then Jesus said to them, “Don’t be afraid! Go tell my brothers to leave for Galilee, and they will see me there.”
  • The Soldiers Are Bribed

Now while they were going, behold, some of the guard came into the city and reported to the chief priests all the things that had happened.

  • The Report of the Guard

As the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and told the leading priests what had happened.
  • When they had assembled with the elders and consulted together, they gave a large sum of money to the soldiers,
  • A meeting with the elders was called, and they decided to give the soldiers a large bribe.
  • saying, “Tell them, ‘His disciples came at night and stole Him away while we slept.’
  • They told the soldiers, “You must say, ‘Jesus’ disciples came during the night while we were sleeping, and they stole his body.’
  • And if this comes to the governor’s ears, we will appease him and make you secure.”
  • If the governor hears about it, we’ll stand up for you so you won’t get in trouble.”
  • So they took the money and did as they were instructed; and this saying is commonly reported among the Jews until this day.
  • So the guards accepted the bribe and said what they were told to say. Their story spread widely among the Jews, and they still tell it today.
  • The Great Commission

Then the eleven disciples went away into Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had appointed for them.

  • The Great Commission

Then the eleven disciples left for Galilee, going to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.
  • When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted.
  • When they saw him, they worshiped him — but some of them doubted!
  • And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
  • Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth.
  • Go [c]therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
  • Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations,b baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
  • teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” [d]Amen.
  • Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
