John the Baptist Prepares the Way

The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

Початок Євангелії Ісуса Христа, Сина Божого.

As it is written in [a]the Prophets:
“Behold, I send My messenger before Your face,
Who will prepare Your way before You.”

Як написано в пророка Ісаї: "Ось я посилаю мого посланця перед тобою, який приготує тобі дорогу.

“The voice of one crying in the wilderness:
‘Prepare the way of the Lord;
Make His paths straight.’ ”

Голос вопіющого в пустині: Готуйте Господеві дорогу, вирівняйте стежки його

John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance [b]for the remission of sins.

— так виступив Йоан, христивши у пустині та проповідувавши хрищення покаяння на прощення гріхів.

Then all the land of Judea, and those from Jerusalem, went out to him and were all baptized by him in the Jordan River, confessing their sins.

І виходили до нього — вся країна Юдейська та всі єрусалимляни, христились від нього в ріці Йордані й визнавали гріхи свої.

Now John was clothed with camel’s hair and with a leather belt around his waist, and he ate locusts and wild honey.

Йоан одягнений був в одежу з верблюжого волосу й носив ремінний пояс на своїх бедрах, а їв сарану й мед дикий.

And he preached, saying, “There comes One after me who is mightier than I, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to stoop down and loose.

І проповідував, кажучи: "Слідом за мною іде сильніший від мене, що йому я недостойний, нахилившись, розв'язати ремінця його сандалів.

8

I indeed baptized you with water, but He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”

8

Я вас христив водою, а він христитиме Святим Духом."

John Baptizes Jesus

It came to pass in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized by John in the Jordan.

Тими днями прийшов Ісус із Назарету, що в Галилеї; і був хрищений Йоаном у Йордані.

And immediately, coming up [c]from the water, He saw the heavens [d]parting and the Spirit descending upon Him like a dove.

10

І коли виходив з води, то побачив, як небо розкрилось, і Духа, що як голуб сходив на нього.

11

Then a voice came from heaven, “You are My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”

11

І голос ізлинув з неба: "Ти єси Син мій любий, у тобі — моє уподобання."

12

Satan Tempts Jesus

Immediately the Spirit [e]drove Him into the wilderness.

12

І відразу Дух повів його в пустиню;

13

And He was there in the wilderness forty days, tempted by Satan, and was with the wild beasts; and the angels ministered to Him.

13

і він перебував у пустині сорок день, спокушуваний сатаною, і був із дикими звірями, а ангели йому служили.

14

Jesus Begins His Galilean Ministry

Now after John was put in prison, Jesus came to Galilee, preaching the gospel [f]of the kingdom of God,

А коли видано Йоана, Ісус прийшов у Галилею і проповідував там Божу Євангелію,

15

and saying, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God [g]is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.”

кажучи: "Сповнився час, і Царство Боже близько; покайтеся і вірте в Євангелію."

16

Four Fishermen Called as Disciples

And as He walked by the Sea of Galilee, He saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen.

Проходивши ж повз море Галилейське, побачив він Симона й Андрія, його брата, як вони кидали мережу в море, були бо рибалки.

17

Then Jesus said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you become fishers of men.”

17

Ісус їм сказав: "Ідіть за мною, я зроблю вас рибалками людей."

18

They immediately left their nets and followed Him.

18

І вмить, покинувши мережу, пішли слідом за ним.

19

When He had gone a little farther from there, He saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the boat mending their nets.

19

Пройшовши трохи далі, побачив Якова, сина Заведея, та Йоана, його брата, що теж були у човні й направляли сіті,

20

And immediately He called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired servants, and went after Him.

20

тож відразу їх покликав. І ті, покинувши батька Заведея в човні з наймитами, пішли слідом за ним.

21

Jesus Casts Out an Unclean Spirit

Then they went into Capernaum, and immediately on the Sabbath He entered the synagogue and taught.

21

Прийшли вони в Капернаум, і він, відразу в суботу, увійшовши в синагогу, узявся навчати.

22

And they were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

22

І дивувалися його навчанню, бо навчав він їх як повновладний, не як книжники.

23

Now there was a man in their synagogue with an unclean spirit. And he cried out,

А був якраз у їхній синагозі чоловік з нечистим духом, що закричав, кажучи:

24

saying, “Let us alone! What have we to do with You, Jesus of Nazareth? Did You come to destroy us? I know who You are — the Holy One of God!”

24

"Що нам, та й тобі, Ісусе Назарянине? Прийшов єси нас погубити! Знаю бо, хто ти: Святий Божий!"

25

But Jesus rebuked him, saying, [h]“Be quiet, and come out of him!”

25

Ісус погрозив йому: "Мовчи, вийди з нього!"

26

And when the unclean spirit had convulsed him and cried out with a loud voice, he came out of him.

26

Нечистий дух стряс його, скрикнув голосом дужим і вийшов геть із нього.

27

Then they were all amazed, so that they questioned among themselves, saying, [i]“What is this? What new [j]doctrine is this? For with authority He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey Him.”

27

Здивувалися всі й один одного запитували: "Що це? Нова повновладна наука? Навіть наказує нечистим духам, і ті слухаються його!"

28

And immediately His fame spread throughout all the region around Galilee.

І вмить чутка про нього розійшлась по всіх усюдах, по всій країні Галилейській.

29

Peter’s Mother-in-Law Healed

Now as soon as they had come out of the synagogue, they entered the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.

29

І скоро вийшов він із синагоги, то разом з Яковом та Йоаном пішов у дім Симона та Андрія.

30

But Simon’s wife’s mother lay sick with a fever, and they told Him about her at once.

30

Теща ж Симонова лежала у гарячці, тож йому негайно сказано про неї.

31

So He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and immediately the fever left her. And she served them.

31

Він підійшов і підвів її, взявши за руку, й покинула її гарячка, — і заходилась вона їм услуговувати.

Many Healed After Sabbath Sunset

At evening, when the sun had set, they brought to Him all who were sick and those who were demon-possessed.

32

Якже настав вечір, по заході сонця, почали приносити до нього усіх недужих та біснуватих.

33

And the whole city was gathered together at the door.

33

Усе місто зібралося перед дверима.

34

Then He healed many who were sick with various diseases, and cast out many demons; and He did not allow the demons to speak, because they knew Him.

34

І він оздоровлював чимало недужих на різні хвороби, а й бісів багато вигнав, але заборонив бісам говорити, вони бо про нього знали.

35

Preaching in Galilee

Now in the morning, having risen a long while before daylight, He went out and departed to a [k]solitary place; and there He prayed.

35

Уранці ж, іще геть за ночі, вставши, вийшов і пішов на самоту й там молився.

36

And Simon and those who were with Him searched for Him.

36

Та Симон і ті, що були з ним, поспішили за ним,

37

When they found Him, they said to Him, “Everyone is looking for You.”

37

знайшли його й кажуть до нього: "Усі тебе шукають."

38

But He said to them, “Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also, because for this purpose I have come forth.”

38

Він же відповів їм: "Ходімо деінде, у сусідні села, щоб і там проповідувати, бо я на те й прийшов."

39

And He was preaching in their synagogues throughout all Galilee, and casting out demons.

39

І він пішов і проповідував в їхніх синагогах по всій Галилеї, і виганяв бісів.

40

Jesus Cleanses a Leper

Now a leper came to Him, imploring Him, kneeling down to Him and saying to Him, “If You are willing, You can make me clean.”

40

І приходить до нього прокажений, благає його та, припавши на коліна, каже йому: "Якщо хочеш, то можеш мене очистити."

41

Then Jesus, moved with compassion, stretched out His hand and touched him, and said to him, “I am willing; be cleansed.”

41

І, змилосердившись, Ісус простягнув свою руку, доторкнувсь його і сказав до нього: "Хочу, будь чистий!"

42

As soon as He had spoken, immediately the leprosy left him, and he was cleansed.

42

І вмить проказа зійшла з нього, і став він чистий.

43

And He strictly warned him and sent him away at once,

43

І, звернувшись до нього суворо, негайно відпустив його

44

and said to him, “See that you say nothing to anyone; but go your way, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing those things which Moses commanded, as a testimony to them.”

44

й мовив йому: "Гляди ж, нікому не кажи нічого, а йди та покажися священикові, ще й принеси за твоє очищення, що повелів був Мойсей, їм на свідоцтво."

45

However, he went out and began to proclaim it freely, and to spread the matter, so that Jesus could no longer openly enter the city, but was outside in deserted places; and they came to Him from every direction.

45

Та тільки но той вийшов, а вже й заходився велемовити та ширити усюди про те чутку, — тож: Ісус не міг одверто ввійти в місто, а перебував осторонь у місцях усамітнення. І приходили до нього звідусюди.
